I didn't really care too much for System Shock 2... until I reached the recreation deck. The environment just wasn't that interesting. Then it got all dark and scary, with enemies attacking in interesting ways and now I'm really enjoying it.

(spoiler) I like how the worms can come out of bodies laying on the floor, or drop out of the ceiling, or sometimes you'll open a cabinet and they'll attack, etc.

Recreation was a cool level. For me I was first hooked by Hydroponics. Something about the "organic" part of it made it unsettling.

Wait until you get to the Rickenbacker.
Also you should play System Shock 1 if you haven't. Definitely feels super gritty and frightening in some places.
