  1. well it depends on, what kind of object it is. normalmaps for more or less simple objects like furniture can mostly be done in PS. I don't know any free 3d apll, that has a normalmap plugin BTW I quite like your servant-beds

  4. we're creating a tool-set for FM designers and we want to provide everything for a thief-like mission. and thief (especially T2 for example partytime) has a lot of outdoor-areas. the D3 engine is powerfull - powerfull in small corridors like on the station on mars. I don't want to stress the engine just for a simple object like a barrel. and if I can make a model, with almost half polys, that looks almost the same, so why keep the otherone ? I also don't like it, when things are done twice, but be serious - how long did the barrel take ? mine took me about 10 minutes and I'm not a experienced modeller.

  7. I think that's just the perspective. I made it about the same size, as T2 barrels. of course we can make several versions of it.

  10. hope you don't mind, that I made the barrel myself. yours had more than 360 triangles - I think that's not worth for such a simple object, as a barrel. here's mine in blender: and here ingame...
  11. there's a nvidia photoshop-plugin for normalmaps so can u plze make it with a lower number of sides, but with a modeled top ? I'd prefer this, cauze normalmaps don't look as nice anyway, when you look from the side. I'd suggest 10 sides for the barrel - that's enough.

  14. maybe it'd be better to make it more lowpoly and model the top. this way the texture could stay the same, but the top would look more realistic. eventhough T3 is rather ugly (actually I was really surprised HOW ugly T3 is, when I took that screenshot some minutes ago) their barrels have a modeled top, but don't have so much sides. http://www.dark-project.com/BlackThief/thief3_barrel.jpg so Atti can u plze make the shape like the T3 barrel and reduce the number of sides ?
  15. now question is, how to make the top. ATM it looks like that - this way the texture is as highres as possible, cauze the top uses the same texture as the rest. the disadavantage is, that it has no border around it... question now is - more highres texture or more realism ?
  16. I think oDDity's one is already skinned, isn't it ? I just hate it, when something's done twice and we have to decide which one is better. that isn't the best for the working atmosphere here

  18. well we DO have a lightgem - full textured. it just needs to be resized. If spar isn't able to do that I can do it for him - that's no real problem.

  20. a real compass doesn't point up and down either so we ARE using oDDity's lightgem or not ? I'm really confused....
  21. ???? I don't see the point of this discussion and the reason, why finger wrote that PM to Atti I think we all agreed on oDDity's lightgem - now what's wrong with it ? I can't imagine the problem you have sparhwak. why wouldn't you know where up and down is ? our thief isn't able to fly and our world has the same gravity as on earth, so what's the problem ???

  23. don't take that wrong Atti - your models look all great, but I have to do some critism on this one first you should take care that the proportions are right. this means in case of the grandfather-clock, that the top and the bottom are about the same size. your top is much wider than the bottom -your clock would be knocked off rather easily then plze try to make it more old-school-looking. it's just my opinion, but I think this style doesn't fit very well to the rest of our furniture. here's a reference pic, that shows what I had in mind:
  24. not sure if it's possible to "upgrade" winxp. I had a similar problem some time ago with a notebook. I had installed Win2k pro first and then I was told to install WinXp pro, after finishing the setup I had two OS and everytime I wanted to boot I was asked which OS I want to run....
