Dear Esther 2.0

It did cost twice what it should have though, since there's nothing to do but walk through the story.

It's kinda interesting the different reactions this thing gets. It seems either to be one or other of adoration, loathing or okay but whatever. Which I guess, in a funny sort of way, is the point.

There is no story. Only the suggestion that you subconsciously invent one. The what you 'do' in Dear Esther is on the subconscious level rather than the conscious one.

I'm having an issue with this game maybe you guys could help me with. I loaded the game, started playing. The graphics look great and I was enjoying it, then I decided the graphics didn't look QUITE right for my monitor, so I opened the menu went to the options and "Aha!" there's the problem it wasn't set to my resolution. So I adjusted it to 1920 x 1080, which is my resolution, and all of a sudden the screen goes completely black after adjustment. I waited a few seconds to see if it would maybe straighten itself out, no, I minimize the window and reopen it, nope no effect there. Closed the program and reopened, now I get a solid black screen with music similar to pranqsters issue. so I go and adjust the .txt file and reload it, it doesn't load in windows mode, and it opens to a black screen music in the background, hit escape it goes to the main menu but I can only see the ocean and the tops of the letters of the words. Uninstalled, reinstalled, no fix.

I'm lost.

You could try tweaking

...\SteamApps\common\dear esther\dearesther\cfg\video.txt

sorry I wasn't more specific, I did try that video.txt, still nothing. I think I may just uninstall it and count it as a loss on my part...

EDIT: Honestly, I gave this up as a lost cause, but when you gave me the suggestion I looked around in the steamapps file, got annoyed cause apparently I know next to nothing about how to fix issues like this, so I uninstalled it, reinstalled it twice on the second install, it opened right up.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Trying to be productive on my down-time before Capcom releases Akuma and my son is constantly on my PC playing Street Fighter...

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
