Tabula Rasa and Fury

I'm beta testing both these games. The first Fury is pretty good. However it dosen't have that "hook" so I probably won't be getting it.

 

Tabula Rasa though is worth looking into. Richard Garriot calls it one of the 2nd generation MMO's. You aim like a first person shooter. Easy to get into. Pretty good storyline and nice graphics. The gameplay is lots of fun. I'll have to play it a bit more to see if i'm satisfied.

 

Mainly you use guns and you can if you want use hand to hand combat. There are also powers to unlock and crafting as well.

 

Besides that I already beat Bioshock and am awaiting Gears of War for the PC. Hopefully this holiday it will come out.

With Tabula Rasa, do you need skills to use the weapons? As in, does it play like a multiplayer fps game such as HL2 Deathmatch or UT, where each character has pretty much the same skill with each weapon? Or is it something like Vampire: Masquerade where your skill with firearms determines the hp damage and your aiming reticle/accuracy? I'd be interested to know, because there is some hype about this one.

 

The idea of having fast fps style gameplay with character development and crafting as in an MMORPG sounds like a pretty good idea. I can imagine though that there might be balancing issues? Say one character could craft a weapon that the other characters he fighting dont have; and could gank them all really easy. Does the game have this problem at all?

 

And having played Gears of War on 360 I can safely say that it is quite a well made game; it has a pretty decent storyline and voice acting, as well as some pretty schmick fight scenes. Graphics and art direction were awesome too; think post-apocalyptic Classical Rome with guns, helicopters and bad ass marines in huge body suits

Well there is an auto aim feature so there is not much skill required. However you can use the enviroment to crouch and give yourself a bonus to defense.

 

Also different weapons are beter in certain situations. Like using the shotgun at point blank range will kill mobs fast. There is also different ammunition for greater damage that you purchase.
