Maybe suffers a bit from 'we say positive things about old games and negative things about new games so in conclusion old games are better' but the in depth comparison of LGS era and Thi4f era maps is super nice.

  1. So once these architects, builders and various other labourers have finished building the secret room that houses all the valueble treasure in the rich lord's manor, what do you think the rich lord does with them? Give them a large purse full of coins and a pat on the back? Somehow I think it's anything but that.

I like the way you think.

But you'd have your priest hole built by someone sympathetic to the pope.

If it was the 50th anniversary, then yeah, that's a thing. But 46? Is 46 special? Does it matter?

I'm not very hot on occasion etiquette, but what sort of anniversary is 46th?

I refer to it as climate change. If you wanted to change the climate of a planet, this is what it would look like:

I'm pretty sure these don't count as spoilers, as it's more unspoiling the game - but for boss 2 and 3 I found the tracking augment handy. Boss 4 is actually almost fun, as long as you don't mind terribly unintuitive game design with no feedback.

I can't help thinking that the "there's nothing to do' criticism is a bit like complaining that newfangled ambient music has no words.

There's plenty to do (among other things there's a story to write and the island is loaded with content to help you write it), it's just the traditional video game stuff that is completely absent - granted that's highly unusual and can leave you feeling lost, naked and not sure what to do with yourself.

      I don't.

Obviously that's a small lie, a Dear Estheresque thing with more(?) traditional video gamey things to do would be smashing.

But Dear Esther wouldn't have happened any other way, and it's unique and wonderful the way it is.

      jay pettitt

      Hell yes.

Admittedly it's not the pinnacle of human creation (or philosophy) - but there is some attempt at thoughtfulness going on there. Where Mr Shoe Company says 'An Epic Use of an Iconic City' and then goes on to show a car doing 10 minutes of doughnuts in a road the bicycle film does bother to use the landscape to make the film look interesting.

  13. I wonder if v1.08 would run "standalone" if end-users copied pk4 data from the Doom 3 demo. Nobody could officially condone it but players might get to try TDM without downloading anything illegal...

Potentially an interesting KickStarter project - some additional gamey animations to compliment the open motion capture library...

I think you might need to be a dedicated petrol head to see the spectacle - I'm just seeing obnoxious + corporate sponsorship.

      (admittedly I am a grump)

Compare and contrast - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Meh3k2ms56w - similar perhaps, but less noxious and more effort with the cinematography

Emphatically no. Anti social wankery right there. And for what - so you can sell some shoes? Fuck off.

Giggled at the script writer credit though.

Spectacular photograph. I'm a bit thick though, so you might have to explain the 1984 reference. That thing represents an awful lot of rent going oversees. It's like some giant blood letting implement.

Certainly I think the UK has been exceptionally weak about bank regulation post the 2008 crash. Europe proper was making some serious moves towards some tax disincentives for bank naughtiness, but the UK didn't want to play nice with the other kids for fear of disgruntling our City of London finance overlords. And when it comes to regulation in a global market, lowest common denominator wins.

I know Gordon Brown was helluva unpopular, but in hindsight, this new lot we've go...

I tell you what's fucked up - there's important work to do and plenty of people to do it - but we're not joining the dots. That's the tragedy.

Dickwads aren't right. It makes you wonder why there are so many people are getting laid off and struggling to get into work if there's all that extra work sitting around waiting to be done - so much so that we should ban holidays...

This wouldn't be a Tory think tank would it?
