  1. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/05/01/intel_amt_me_vulnerability/ Remember when people were saying that this sort of stuff would happen? I do!
  2. Playing a game today that I passed by twenty years ago. (Blood: Cryptic Passage) The levels and atmosphere are still fantastic. Age does not take a toll on good design. From the sounds inside and outside the lighthouse, to the music, to the secrets, to the way things are interconnected, you can tell a lot of effort was put into this!

  4. Finished the original Deus Ex a couple of weeks ago, which was great, so I decided to try playing Invisible War. My first play session was... less than ideal.

  7. Good lord I never knew video exporting (stitching separate videos into one plus adding little effects) is soooo fricking slow.

  8. Its always funny when a product that is half the price gets a higher score on a benchmark test... Today, its some NiMH batteries.

  9. Remember kiddies, if you're not paying for a product, you *are* the product. Oh, nevermind; this is the 21st century, and you're still the product even when you pay for something. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/02/06/ftc_spanks_vizio_for_slurping_viewer_activity/

  11. I'd been telling a couple people but ya'll need to check out the Dark Reader browser app if you wants the darker pages. Works flawless on 80% of the sites I see and can easily revert back and store which sites I exclude. Pretty handy, and great for long nights.

  12. Almost five years afterI got it, my Nvidia GTX 560 Ti finally gave up its electronic soul. Despite only having 1 GB of VRAM, the 560 Ti still managed to run many of the latest games at over 30 FPS on high settings. That little card gave me so many incredible gaming memories. I always imagined that I would gracefully retire it after purchasing an upgrade, but the universe obviously had other plans.

  13. I saw some people saying that Dollar-tree was selling LED bulbs. It sounded extremely unlikely, due to the complexity in manufacturing such things. But then I found a 2-pack at a hardware store for $2.90! They look great; the only question is how long they will last...

  14. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/12/19/ham_radio_app_bad_review/ New feature for TDM? :) Leave us a bad review, and your copy of the game gets disabled! Don't you just love living in an "always connected (read: on a leash)" world?

  17. Got my hands on a screaming fast 256GB USB flash drive that reads at 400 MB/s and writes at 150MB/s... pure awesomeness. They do actually make a model with even faster writes, but the capacity is lower (due to over-provisioning?) This makes a great mobile Linux drive though.

  19. I'm a freak. I have *two* holes in each of my ears. One is up about an inch above the ear canal. Now that's not the problem, the problem is that it occasionally itches like crazy, and when I squeeze it, this weird stuff comes out. Anybody else have (or even ever hear of) this?

  20. Its always better to learn the smart way today, than the hard way tomorrow... If you are going to mess with luks encryption, back up the header before its too late!

  21. Got an email from my (now former) ISP, informing me that the $25, 1.5mb/s Internet service will go up to $35, starting in October. Yeah, that's right, $35 for wired Internet service that can't even cope with a 720p stream. Capitalism is wonderful.
