Well, systems like YouTube are ”safe harbour” rules to avoid having to deal with the legal system. Nothing better was invented thus far.

Because we cannot go with the assumption that pirates who make money off of sharing are the good guys if they have ads all over the place (Neij and Sunde v. Sweden at the European Court). Leading to the pirate movement failing in Europe. Lost seats in the EU Parliament.

It's not that much about the pirates though. On YT, people abuse copyright system to stifle critique and videos they don't like, since the system is automated, and they don't even have to have a valid reason for copyright strike (or be a certain legal entity). People who got a copyright strike need to explain themselves first, not the one who's making a claim.

Agreed it is against all common sense concerning bona fidae. But all questions are to YouTube, Google specifically.

  2. That amazing feeling when you manage to build a program (darkradiant) from source for the 1st time in your life and it then unexpectedly runs like a charm :)

The feeling of grand success is fun! Good thing it is so rare that it tastes so good every time you get it!

Next thing to tackle is completing the A-Z Beginner's Tutorial. Implementing the automatic terrain and story generator will have to wait, sorry :P

  3. I wonder what happend to the linux development fork of DarkRadiant. Is it dead? Orbweaver's PPA hasn't been updated the whole past year.I'd love to start mapping but atm there's no version that could run on Ubuntu 16.04.

dont know. But a workaround is to use a older version of try it to run under wine.

There's a "darkradiant" package for Debian, which I'm told is usually making its way to the Ubuntu Software Center. Not sure about 16.04 though. Linky: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/darkradiant

Yep, there is a package for 16.04. available in the software center, but it's not working. I had reported this issue last summer (http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18409-trying-to-run-darkradiant-on-ubuntu-1604-lts/), but nobody cared about it in the meantime :(
