Woohoo! I have GLSL shaders drawing the odd surface among our lit surfaces that use old ARB assembly shaders. And I have GLSL shaders able to feed our stencil and alpha buffers from images renderered off screen while light and shadow are being drawn. And all without changing a line of existing code. So much exciting stuff to try out now

Nice! I understand very little of that, but it sounds great for portability and future-proofing. Thanks for enhancing the rendering technology.

I just tabbed out while testing and died in an empty room with no entrances and no guards within hearing distance. I have so many questions.

There used to be a TDM bug where the player was able to stab himself with the sword by swinging it at a certain low angle. It cracked me up when I found it and I spent the next few minutes doing it to myself just for fun. It was fixed though.

2 GB is extremely lame at that price at this point. Even an older 750TI features 2 GB and it is much cheaper than this.

Every time I update Windows and it takes 10 minutes installing some .net framework fixes, I get this (-) much closer to deleting the Windows partition. If I can ray-trace an entire scene faster than software installs, they're doing it wrong. If it takes 10 minutes to apply some fixes on a 6-core 16 GB machine with an SSD, they're doing it wrong!

Yeah, but if I wanted to wait for stuff to compile, I would use Gentoo.
I wonder if the .net stuff compiles using multiple threads? Just imagine how slow it would be on the Celerons a lot of average Joes use.

Precisely. That's why I try to avoid it. It also needs more security updates than any Adobe product. Sadly though, graphics card manufacturers require it now.

What is it actually doing that makes it take so long? Does anybody have an idea? I would avoid .net everything, but all the video drivers force it on us now.

By wasting their time and trying to annoy them, we are actually doing a good thing. The more time we do this, the less time they have to rip unsuspecting folks off... and if we can make them hate their job even more, all the better. If even 6 out of 10 people did this instead of hanging up on the scammers, it would not be worth it for them to continue.

There are also fake tech support people who list themselves on Google. A vulnerable person searches for tech support, calls them by accident, and gets scammed.

These guys call you and tell you that they're "getting errors from your PC". Then they want to show you all the "malware" in event viewer. This has been going on for ages now and the authorities are too useless to do anything about it.

It would be more efficiant for the scammers to just block me. I've trolled them so many times now, they would be more successful calling somebody else. I actually wish I had kept playing with her longer. Perhaps then she would have built up some rage and yelled at me.

After 10 minutes of this, I told them what they were doing is a scam and I've been messing with them all along. The scammer just hung up. They didn't say *anything*, no swearing, no denying it, nothing. Long story short, I win!

Those metal footstep sounds (pipes, grates) have gotta go. They sound muffled, as though somebody put them through a high-pass filter or something.

EDIT: I mean low-pass filter. It sounds like the highs are cut-off. Its so easy to confuse high-pass and low-pass filters.

lost_soul's half-assed solution of the day: There's a hard drive with over 100 bad sectors, making everything run EXTREMELY SLOW. Instead of swapping out the hard drive, I moved the OS to the later half, away from the bad sectors! Now it runs fast and fine!

I wonder if there's a way to see where the bad sectors actually are on the disk? Do I actually have to start half-way through the drive? I can always use the first slow half of the drive for music... lol

Yeah, but some of the lowest-end drives can be extremely slow. This is a problem if you're gonna run an entire session off of them. I can't post an "iso" of this for a wide variety of reasons, sorry... but anybody can do a Lubuntu install to a flash drive, install their video drivers, and load up TDM.

My guess is 8. I've got a load of other stuff on the stick though, because I basically installed my typical Linux environment onto it. Libreoffice, Gimp, etc etc.

Its a 16 GB Sandisk Ultra drive. It has every TDM mission on it.

Well, they did make an optical drive that has multiple lasers and multiple read-assemblies. This gives a greater read rate, while not spinning the disk so fast that it explodes from the force. I wonder if anybody has tried making a hard drive with two read-arms, one on each side. This would give faster performance without spinning the disk faster too.

The SSD and HDD are connected via SATA-II. The IDE port is used for optical drives, since there's really no speed boost in having SATA DVD drives (they're slow as dirt anyway). The ad I am talking about is on the page I shared above, not here.

I'm using IDE DVD drives. This PC has 1 IDE port on the board and I had some IDE drives, so why buy new SATA optical drives when unnecessary? Its using a SATA hard drive and SSD though.
