Pretty sad when a 3.5 GHz CPU loses to a 3.3 GHz CPU in a race... especially when the 3.5 GHZ CPU is a couple years newer! The older chip rendered a scene in 3:05 and the newer one took 3:55!

It makes you wonder though if we can get more speed out of the FX6300. For example, it has new instructions that the Pii lacks entirely like SSE4. If they were used by Blender, would it be faster? Would it catch up with the Pii?

Nope, I raced Phenom II X6 1100t vs the FX 6300 in Blender Cycles. I still feel I got a good deal though because this FX6300 and mobo were extremely cheap and I used them to rebuild a Pentium 4 hunk-o-junk.

No wonder they yanked the Phenom II chips off the market so quickly... Granted this FX6300 does run quieter and cooler though.

You can say "so what, that's less than a minute difference", but what happens when you have a scene that takes 6 hours to render? The newer chip gets literally left in the dust.

You've got to take a moment and appreciate older games that come with pages and pages of documentation on the disk, which teach you how to use the level editor. They even shipped with example levels, showing the features. Man, this industry has changed so much...

As someone in the west, the reason I get depressed is that most of my friends are trash. I call them and they NEVER respond. Drugs/alcohol do not appeal to me, but I don't care if others use them. Alcohol tastes like crap!

Mapper tip: When you have an area you have no idea what it should contain, fill it with crates, barrels and junk. Call it "storage." Problem solved.

Just don't get carried away. I've played some Doom maps which are made up of lots of rooms like that. I was about to give up because it was getting old, but the rest of the map turned out to be excellent.

I've got a great idea. Let's create a mobile OS, allow external SD cards, and constantly change the default mount point. Today its /sdcard/sdcard, tomorrow it will be /mnt/external_sd, and heaven help you find it in the next version, because we don't ship with an actual file browser for you to find it!

Thief has its flaws yes but holy fuck is it fun to play! I'm very impressed so far!
