  1. Thanks for the help, Baddcog! My TDM is up to date. I haven't had Dark Mod installed very long, and re-running the updater to make sure it was fully patched was one of the things I tried a few days ago to get Alchemist to run. The Rift download from the wiki is a .pk4 (everything I've downloaded has been .pk4, no issues there). I'm not sure I'm fully understanding how to dmap. I deleted the Rifts folder from C:/Games/Doom3, as well as C:/Games/Doom3/darkmod/fms. I then made the Rift.pk4 into a .zip, extracted the maps folder, removed everything but the .map, put that folder into C:/Games/Doom3. Started TDM, opened console, typed 'dmap rift', and got the error message: "WARNING: Couldn't load map file: 'maps/rift'." I'm guessing I made a mistake, and not understanding things properly?
  2. Out of all the FMs listed on the wiki, there are 3 that I simply cannot get to play. Somewhere Above the City - the mission loading bar completes, switches to 'Mission Loaded, Please Wait' text, and Doom3 crashes a short time after. Alchemist - the mission loading bar completes, switches to 'Preparing Mission, Please Wait' text, and Doom3 crashes a short time after. The Rift - the mission doesn't even get as far as the splash screen/loading bar, Doom3 crashes while still showing the 'Dark Mod' splash screen. All crash with the 'Doom3 has stopped working' popup error message. No other error message. All other missions - and by this I mean, every other FM listed in the wiki - loads and plays fine. I first reported this in the Alchemist thread on these forums. Fidcal and nbohr1more were kind enough to attempt to help me with the issue, but after posting a couple conDump files and my DoomConfig, no answer was found as to why it was happening. I have the proper Doom3 patch. I have tried various graphics settings fruitlessly. System specs: Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3GHz, Win7 (have tried with Aero on and off), 8GB RAM, ATI 4870 (Catalyst AI disabled). I appreciate all help and ideas as to what I might try to fix whatever the problem is!
  3. I just got finished with this one, and...wow. I have avoided reading this thread, since I didn't want to spoil anything, and I'm so glad I didn't! I haven't read it yet, either, but I will after I write this, to see if anyone posted about finding something I missed. I'm doubly glad I didn't spoil anything first, because there are things I really tend to avoid that are unavoidable here...but I played it anyway. I'm so glad for that. Thank you, Sotha. I played this mission way out of my comfort zone, and I greatly enjoyed it in the end.
  4. Now that the one-sided vine issue I had was fixed, I was able to finish (though about 200 shy on loot, so I'll have to go back and scour for what I'm missing). Thank you for a fun (and phenomenally gorgeous) FM, Bikerdude!
  5. No matter what I do...try to walk up to it to attach myself, jump at it, running jump at it, or anything else I can attempt, nothing happens on that side of the vine. I just hit the vine like it's a barrier, and I can jump up and down all I want against it- nothing happens. The backside of the vine works perfectly fine, however. I'm not the only one with this problem, I also checked the TTLG forums and found this post in the FM thread there from someone with the same single-sided-climbable vine issue. Oh, and just to add, the other vine down there is perfectly climbable on both sides. It's very weird!
  6. Thank you, SO MUCH! I haven't tried this yet, but I have had a great deal of trouble spotting the vast majority of keys. I'm currently playing (and stuck on) The Caduceus of St. Alban, and one of the very first things I noted in that FM was 'WOW! I can SEE the KEYS here!', so I hope this 'patch' will help bring that relief to other FMs were I have frobbed completely blindly because I never saw a thing.
  7. I've really enjoyed this FM! I love the architecture, and it's been great fun climbing around on things and exploring, even if there aren't many AI and they're a little ...err, 'simple', I suppose. (I am NOT complaining, mind you, I'm still getting used to the Dark Mod's guard sensitivity levels. This also lets me play around more easily at Ghosting, which is not something I, as an avid Blackjack junkie, often do.) And the caduceus is gorgeous! But I'm stuck. Is this not the intended way back out, or am I completely missing something?
  8. AA and AF have been set 'program controlled' and Catalyst AI has been disabled since I first installed TDM. In my attempts to get The Alchemist to load, I have tried every video setting, from highest to lowest, with no success. Confusing thing, in game? AA is set as 2x and Texture Anisotropy is set as 1x. No 16x. I do not know why it's registering as that in the dump file. DoomConfig.txt
  9. Okay, here's the dump file. I hope the culprit's visible in it. crashes.txt
  10. Catalyst 10.3 ...I'd been hearing not-so-good words about further updates, so I didn't get them (I guess I missed good words on 10.4). Disabling Aero didn't make any difference.
  11. Doom 3 folder renamed Doom3. Spiky ball patch added. Game still crashes. Note...I can't use an earlier gamesave, I can't actually get INTO the FM at all. The 'mission loading' bar completely fills, then switches to the textual-only 'Preparing Mission, Please Wait'. After a short wait, the game crashes to desktop, with a 'Doom 3 has stopped working' crash pop-up message. I never see anything past the 'The Alchemist' loading screen. I have had no trouble playing any other Dark Mod FM (over a dozen of them so far). Sadly...The Alchemist and my computer just don't seem to get along very well, since I'm the only one having this issue.
  12. I have played almost all of the Dark Mod FMs on the list so far (and the rest of the Thief's Den series, which is why I want to play Alchemist!) I'd played...oh, the Trainer, and then I got sucked immediately into the Thief's Den series, up until I was unable to play Alchemist. I then switched to a different FM to see if it worked, which wound up being the NHAT series- so I played those 3, and then dove into 3 more, and more, and,...then I realized I was almost through the DM FMs and I still hadn't played Alchemist. (Kid in a candy store, told ya.) TDM is up to date, ran updater and got 0 file changes. I have the proper Doom patch. I have tried downloading and playing the Alchemist from both fidcal and bloodgate websites. I get a 'Doom 3 has stopped working' crash popup a short while after the loading bar completes and goes into the 'Preparing Mission, Please Wait' pause. And then it's not until this very moment that I find via your link, a little note that 'Doom 3 does not like to be installed in a folder with a space in the name'. Mine is installed in Games/Doom 3. Why hello there, Space, are you the guilty party? I renamed the folder and removed the space, just to see if that would work, but no luck. I'm getting no error messages at any time (just the 'stopped working' popup), nor can I find any log in my game folder with error-looking messages or anything from that link. Just the space in the title is all that I can see is off from there. Next step, complete reinstall with space removed from title? :/ ..I have to go offline for several hours, but thank you for your help!
  13. Since finally getting around to opening the box & installing Doom3 a few days ago, I have been on a Dark Mod rampage. I'm a kid in a candy shop; I can't get enough. Sadly, I can't get into this mission at all. The loading bar fills, switches to 'please wait' and then the game crashes, every single time. I've adjusted all my graphics settings off/down, to no avail. This isn't the save/quicksave crash, since I can't even get into the game TO save. I don't think my machine would be suffering on the 'low end', yet? (Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3GHz, Win7, 8GB, ATI 4870.) I may be the randomly cursed and hopeless one, or just so lost in all the new Thiefishness that I'm missing something as obvious as a shiny gold coin staring me in the face (I do that a lot). If you could toss some advice or further ideas my way, I'd greatly appreciate it!
