  1. Glad I'm in a minority with this problem Printout from Nvidia control panel here: - Any use? Any other GPU settings I could let you know about? (I've never messed around with them, so they're all on default settings AFAIK).
  2. Just to say I've done a few side-by-side comparisons, playing freshly downloaded missions in 1.08 and in 1.07 (running from a TDM backup on a separate drive). FPS in 1.07 runs pretty consistently at 50-60fps in each mission, with occasional drops to 30-40; in 1.08, it's generally half that or less. Missions tested: Phrase Book, Too Late, Thief's Den. Outside areas particularly get slow - first section of Thief's Den runs 15-20 fps; the courtyard in Too Late runs 7-15fps. (Phrase Book runs about 20-25fps in the outside areas.) I'll mention one other little 1.08 glitch I noticed in case it's useful - on the briefing page of Thief's Den, the 'Back' and 'Objectives' links at the bottom of the page were blacked out. Hey, I've got a working version of 1.07. I'll wait to see if more info emerges that may identify the cause of my problem .
  3. Well, I assume it is . The patch didn't throw up any error messages when I ran it. image_usecompression = 1 image_usenormalcompression = 2 (Are they normal? Never looked at them before.) Graphic settings (I may have had them higher in 1.07 and lowered them when I saw I was getting fps drop in 1.08): - Vertical sync - No Antialiasing - Off Texture anisotropy - 1x Ambient rendering - Simple Interaction shader - Default Post-processing - Disabled Object details (LOD) - Lowest Gone 2am so signing off for the night . Will check back in tomorrow...
  4. Having had the privilege of being one of the beta-testers, I'm really looking forward to seeing what people make of this one. One of the most challenging missions I've played, which definitely took me out of the comfort zone of my preferred playing-style. Heck, I even used flash-bombs at one point . Unfortunately, I'm having some performance issues with 1.08, and this mission keeps on slowing down/crashing, which it never did in 1.07. Hope I can get it sorted. BTW - it looks like the small spelling corrections I suggested for the briefing got lost in transmission...
  5. Just done a quick playthrough - in general, in the climbing section I'd say (1) indoors/enclosed spaces - generally runs 25-35fps; (2) where sky is visible, 15-25fps; (3) looking up to the sky (e.g. to fire a rope arrow) can get 7-15fps. Stealth is mostly better, but still 30-40fps. Main noticeable drop is the corridor section going down to the very first guard, as the following pix should show: - HTH. Gonna go to bed now...
  6. OK - on the up side: played through Tears of St Lucia; it looked amazing (the sewers especially), I was chuffed I could still spidernoob my way to places I shouldn't be and performance was good-to-OK throughout. My impression from playing the stealth and climbing sections of the new training mission is that it's more noob-friendly than the original, and again it looks lush. Not so good: Training mission (stealth section and climbing/mantling section at least) persistently runs slower - sometimes much slower - than 1.07. Average fps 30-40, with occasional drops down to 18-19 (e.g. rope swing across the river). In 1.07 it ran at about 62fps pretty much all the time. Really not good: I helped beta-test Obsttorte's new FM, and in 1.07 I was generally running at 62fps with occasional drops down to 30 or so (especially when one particular door is opened and I'm looking at it). In 1.08, I'm generally getting 30-40fps (it sometimes blips back up to 62fps, but only for a couple of seconds), and when this particular door opens, it drops to 11-12fps (sometimes single figures). I've also had several crashes to desktop, usually when I switch from playing TDM to another program, which never happened with 1.07. I've patched thedarkmod.exe with the 4GB ram patch. Laptop specs: Win 7 Pro (64 bit), 8GB RAM, i7-2670QM CPU, Nvidia GeForce GT 555M. I haven't had any problems opening missions so far. I just seem to be getting a performance hit. Any ideas why?
  7. Dunno how I missed it before Still, better late appreciation than never. Who composed it?
  8. Done the update (thanks to everyone hosting the mirrors - downloading took a little while but was trouble-free), haven't opened a proper mission yet, but - um....has the main menu music changed? Or have I just listened to it properly for the first time in nearly a year of playing TDM? It's great - really cinematic. Just had it playing right the way through 3 times in a row...
  9. Depends whether the architect playerclipped that ledge when the church was mapped built
  10. You read me like a book, sir. It's completely true: - What most people see when they visit a lovely church building: What simplen00b sees when he visits a lovely church building:
  11. Could this be any use as a starting point - http://forums.eidosg...Final_rules.htm ? Iron Man/Titanium Man rules are a few posts down the page.
  12. If I'm allowed to go off-topic for a mo, can I just check: does 'Iron Man' gameplay = not saving at all as you go along?Seen it mentioned a few times and never been completely sure what it meant.
  13. On the off-chance they could be useful, here are lower-detail mission maps (mainly, I've marked the locations of various brothers' rooms so you know where to go when you find the key):- High detail maps showing locations of secret levers, secret rooms etc can be found in my earlier post here. HTH.
  14. Halfway through your Knighton Manor walkthrough and wanted to say I really like your style - conversational, involved without being hyper, funny, and at the risk of sounding prudish, I really appreciate the lack of swearing. (Haven't watched your alcohol-fuelled bonus video yet, mind. ) So anyway, thanks - look forward to more!
  15. Are you stuck in the cell? If so, (i) you're not the first (I suspect noclip has been used more than a few times) ; (ii) there's a readable outside the door which gives an admittedly pretty lateral clue about what you need to do. Small hint: Big hint:
  16. All sorted now - I was trying to install from an iso image of my T2 CD (I hate having to keep the CD in the drive) and it seems it was an issue with MagicISO; tried it with Virtual CloneDrive and it installed fine. Then I just followed the instructions for the 1.19 patch and it all seems to be working OK. Initial impression from playing a few minutes of Running Interference: (i) I think it does look better than I remembered (once I adjusted the resolution) - not as grainy? - but it's difficult to quantify; (ii) controls seem slightly more sluggish, especially with carrying bodies - I feel like I'm underwater; (iii) I've forgotten a lot of the T2 controls ; (iv) font of hints/inventory lists is tiddly but pretty sure I've read that can be adjusted; (v) Ah, the joy of running full-tilt along a corridor up behind a guard and coshing him before he has the chance to do anything except say "Uh?". Which brings us back to: - Yeah, that's pretty comprehensive. (I know the AI in TDS would notice extinguished lights/missing loot, but I don't remember them ever going into alert about it.) I'm just aware that for some people, your list makes TDM AI more frustrating, not 'better'. But hey, thems the breaks, waddya gonna do (etc etc) I'm nowhere near being an authority on T2 FMs, but having recently watched Fenn P's videos of King's Story and Rose Cottage, it wouldn't surprise me. I enjoyed watching the videos, but I think playing them would have driven me potty. I much more love the 'creeping around wondering if I'm going to get busted' element of Thief.
  17. Dunno about exceedingly more sophisticated - I think the main difference is greater sensitivity, although there are those restrictions about helmets/levels of alert etc. Oh yeah, and their ability to relight torches and candles at times of huge inconvenience. Could be wrong but I can't see anyone being able to do a speed run through an average TDM mission like you can in some of the Thief missions. And it only becomes a can of worms if you start taking the position that preferring Game A makes you an intrinsically superior person to someone who doesn't (not that that would ever happen on an internet forum, of course). No but seriously, if I ever started believing that preferring TDM made me a better person than someone who preferred T1/T2/whatever, you have permission to take me outside and shoot me, or at least hold me down while someone else kicks me on the knee. And (finally getting back on OT) I have just tried to install T2 on my superduper laptop. And it won't let me. Not compatible with my version of Windows. Gonna go to bed.
  18. I guess cuz some people think the only difference between T2 and TDM is the visuals.
  19. If eye candy was the only difference between T2 and TDM, this may be so, but I think it misses the key difference - I mean, this patch isn't going make the AI in T2 start behaving like those in TDM. (Is it?) Plenty of room for both, definitely.
  20. Sooo..... **brain churns slowly** I install T2 and apply this patch, and the original game will look better - ??? If so, how the heck did they get that to happen? (Rhetorical question; wouldn't understand answer.) Genuinely interested as I'm wondering if it would resolve the motion sickness I used to get with T1/T2 (which I've mentioned in another post).
  21. Fair do's. I'm thinking of doing a lower-info version of the maps, maybe with just the brother's rooms labelled, so players can at least cut out some of the "Does this key fit this door? No.... This door? Nooo..... This door?" (etc etc). BTW, your walkthrough also helped me find some rope arrows for the first time ever, which'll save Re the final jump in to the water - have to say, I just quicksave beforehand and keep doing it until I don't die. Really don't know what keeps killing me. I would LOVE to see Fenn Phoenix do a "Let's Play" of this mission (especially the final part). Just not sure how he'd last through the key hunt....
  22. On a similar note, with Shadowhide's permission I've put together (fairly crude) maps of each floor so players can have some idea of where they need to go when they've found stuff . Really I've done them for people who hate key-hunts but may feel inclined to give the mission a go if they have some directions (if only for the amazing ending), so the maps are pretty detailed re locations of secret levers/buttons etc. So don't look if you want the full key-hunt experience . Comments/feedback welcome. EDIT: Lower detail maps (i.e. just showing the locations of the various brothers' rooms) available here. P.S. @Brethren - thanks for the walkthrough; really helped me find a room I hadn't found before. However, I think there's one thing you missed (and it's not surprising, coz it probably tops the 'How was I meant to know THAT?' list; in fact, I'm astonished anyone found it at all): -
  23. I've played it through three times now on each level of difficulty and I've never got more than about 1100 loot so I'm still missing at least one key/lever. (First playthrough on easy took over 5 hours, BTW, but now it takes a bit over 1 hour .) I'm a fan of this mission but even so I couldn't argue that there are elements which are completely "How is anyone meant to work that out?" That's about the only thing I haven't done yet, but as long as I play in a dark room the low ambient light hasn't been a problem (in fact, it's one of the things I love above it - Shadowhide isn't afraid of contrast in his lighting).
