DarkRadiant Particle Editor Problem

Looking at using the particle editor as a replacement for the in game particle editor. Playing around with it I'm noticing issues with it not loading certain material shaders. Is this a bug in the editor, or an issue with having "doom3" as the selected game but directing the game path to our hexen_eoc.exe? Is there something we need to do to make it play nice with the hexen exe?

Game should be Doom 3

Engine path should the the directory that contains the directory base/ should you have one. (i.e doom3 if you're also using doom3 assets)

If you have a different folder like hexeneoc/ in the same directory, which contains your hexen specific assets, you would set fs_game_base to that.  (i.e if you are acting as a mod of doom3 still - sharing files that are still in one of the base pk4's)

i.e :
C:\
|-Doom3\ - engine
   |-base\
   |-someotherfolders\
   |-hexeneoc\ - game base
        |-hexengame01.pak
        |-textures\
   doom3.exe
   hexeneoc.exe

That said, it's quite likely that there are particles which might have trouble, the module was written before the doom3 source was out. I myself have not used it very much, however I guess if you have any examples of ones that dont, perhaps it can be looked into.

I noticed a while ago when testing the particle editor that I could not get a single particle system to render correctly with its texture (although the geometry looked sensible), but I assumed this was something to do with my setup. If there is a wider issue with the particle renderer I will have to look into it.

That would be awesome. I know I'm considering the tool for creating new particles over at hexenmod as opposed to the built in editor.

After some more trial and error, 1 potential culprit at least first appears to have a relation with materials that use a time/table. There's more to it than just that, but that's at least 1 thing I've been seeing.

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
