Win8: Client Hyper-V

Like most engineers I have been using Virtual box for a while to run older version's of windows for support purposes. I then upgrade to Win8pro for the same reasons but find that Vbox didn't want to play nice anymore. After some googling it looked like hyper-v was interfering with Vbox but at that point I was like "what the hell is hyper-v?"

As it turns out its Microsoft's equivalent of Vbox/Vmware but bloody built into the OS itself, awesome! (yeah you won't catch me saying that about MS very often) So atm I am installing WinXpSp3 so I can run Tels Strawberry perl app(it dosent want to play nice under Win8) so I can use his script to make all my maps i18n ready etc.

I shall see shortly if this Client Hyper-v (CH-V) is any cop, and hopefully see if it has some/any Direct3D support! Watch this space.

I'll do that. I've been searching for some time now for a virtualization software that can run D3D/Glide games fast enough to be playable.

My Eigenvalue is bigger than your Eigenvalue.

Biker: If Strawberry Perl doesn't want to play nice with Windows 8, maybe you could report it as bug? The release notes for the last release (Nov 2012) do not mention anything about windows and say "no issues". So it should work?

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
