Instant Crash when clicking Patch > Create Bevel

Hi all,

Newb mapper here. Just got started experimenting with patches.

I'm following the instructions on http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Patches

and have done everything up to clipping off the corner.

Problem is, as soon as I click on Patches > Create Bevel, DarkRadiant crashes. Every time.

Any ideas? Are there logs I need to attach?

Thanks in advance.

DR 2.0.2 x86

I select a cube brush along a diagonal, clip it with shift-enter, deselect all, select the one right-triangle-shaped brush, drag it away slighty, then go Patch > Create Bevel

Then it crashes.

EDIT: Patch > Create Simple Patch Mesh, Patch > Create End Cap, Patch > Create Cone/Cylinder ALL cause a crash

EDIT2: Every operation regarding patches causes an instant crash

I think (from memory) that you are supposed to select the cut face of the wall brush (the face, not the whole brush) where you want the bevel, rather than the cutaway piece.

Either way it shouldn't crash.

There are some unresolved issues with DR 2.0.2. You might have better luck with 2.0.1.

DR 2.0.1 test

Clip, deselect, select brush, Patch > Create Bevel results in a crash

Clip, deselect, select face(s), Patch > Create Bevel results in a crash

I've really tried all different ways of doing this, even Create Simple Patch Mesh fails

Is there a crashlog I can attach that can help diagnose this issue?

EDIT: DR 2.0.0 and 1.8.1 have the same issue

I've been playing around with DR a bit more and I managed to get it to make a Simple Patch Mesh once without crashing - so whatever is causing the issue is intermittent (althought I only came right once)

Also, the camera view has started doing this: (unless I have a brush selected and translate mode on, in which case its fine. In fact, all of the rendering modes are messed up UNLESS I have a brush selected in translate mode.)

I'm completely at a loss. Any ideas?

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
