I made a Gentoo package for The Dark Mod

As the title says, I made an ebuild for The Dark Mod a while ago, figured I might as well post about it here in case anyone here is using Gentoo (or wants to adapt it for other distributions). The game gets installed system-wide and files are symlinked to the user's home directory whenever the game is started after an update (or for the first time), so the game files are only in one location but also users' save states don't conflict.

The ebuild itself is here: https://git.sr.ht/~dblsaiko/ebuilds/tree/master/games-rpg/thedarkmod, and you can install the game by enabling my Portage overlay and then emerging the games-rpg/thedarkmod package:

# eselect repository enable 2xsaiko # (alternatively, add the repo using layman)
# emerge games-rpg/thedarkmod

Thanks for building this package.
It would be nice if you can publisch this package to one of the main gentoo repo's if any.
Like people did with TDM packages for opensuse and archlinux.

To update your packages, where needed, take a look at:

That would be nice, but unfortunately I'm not a Gentoo maintainer so I can't directly add it myself, now it's possible to submit ebuilds to the main repo but I'm not familiar with how exactly that would work, it's possible, but I haven't done it before, so I think it would be way more involved since I'd have to submit a new ebuild every time I want to update it instead of just being able to push to my own repo. Also since I submitted my repo to the gentoo repositories list you can add it directly via eselect repository and the package shows up on sites like GPO (see: http://gpo.zugaina.org/games-rpg/thedarkmod) so anyone who searches that will be able to find it and install it without too much trouble, since a lot of people already use overlays.

I'll look into it though.

Say, I know it's been a while since the site got overhauled from the crash. But did we ever figure out if/how to get the recent topics & replies list back? It's not a total deal breaker but it was nice for becoming a thread creeper again...

Some of you who've been on the TDM discord know I was out of work last Winter, just putting in hrs for the developer portfolio. Currently I've been working a seasonal job to pay the bills and now I'm finally in my last week before I get bumped off. Things will be tight but I'm planning a long off period to make as much content as I can. Big plans in Unreal Engine as well as my most ambitious TDM collab yet! Never been so excited to be a stuck at home to pursue my life's work. With a lotta time and maybe some luck, I'm hoping to get enough art work done that I may start applying around to studios.

I finally got around to play Prey and I truly loved it. It is an incredible homage to System Shock and Deus Ex. While the gameplay is not en par with those two titles, the game makes up for that with its well written lore and story. The whole "world" just feells so authentic and it features a ton of really god environmental story-telling. Recommended for every immersive sim fan, i.e., everyone on this forum.
