Need Help With Maya

I'm trying to do this tutorial.

http://mentallic.planetunreal.gamespy.com/...Tute1Page3.html

The thing is when I create a polygon cube the stupid inputs don't show up. Sure I can go into polygon options and change the subd height and width there. However I use to be able to do it in the editor on the right. Where the hell did it go? I must of changed something. Anyone have any ideas?

What i'm talking about is when you create a polygon and then hit the inputs button and change stuff through there. It's gone. :o

Man I hate Maya. My friend now uses XSI and 3d Studio Max slaps Maya a new one. It's so dam buggy and inferior. Grrr <_< .

Well I talked to my friend and he said it could be that Maya is not saving the history. I'll investigate a lil more.

Edit:

I have a jar opened in another maya and it has it's inputs. If I create a new polygon on another Maya it has no inputs. If I create another polygon on the same maya it has no inputs. What the hell is going on.

Heh.

There must be a way to use 3DS Max in a Doom 3 workflow. If there is, I can provide any support on how to use it. Even if I don't know the answer, the girls at work are sure to.

Oh well i'm just finding a way to work around it. I'm not working with 3D Studio Max though. Anyway I just require alot more practice with Maya. About a years worth before I can produce any quality stuff.

You work with girls who do 3D modelling? Is your company recruiting?

Hah... what do you mean by that? :)

Yeah all the artists on my project are girls. Not so with the other project we have going - all male team.

There are 4 girls, all of them really good illustrators and animators, 2 of them doing pixel art, and 2 of them doing 3D. One of them easily rivals oDDity at character art, though probably not as fast as him yet.

Yeah okay I can see the next question coming. I'll ask her if she's interested in the project.

If I think the other guys who can do 3D are up to scratch I'll ask them, but I have to see what their work is like. So far we've been doing gameboy projects which are 2D but we recently got some 3D stuff which is the specific reason they hired the 3D girl. So I haven't had a chance to see everyone elses work. But I will specifically ask soon.

Heh, I've been so busy I just never thought to procure modellers from my own office :)

Actually that would be cool because as an animator I could work more closely with them which would speed things up.

I swear, sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Trying to be productive on my down-time before Capcom releases Akuma and my son is constantly on my PC playing Street Fighter...

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
