Lights, how to resize them?

Recommended Posts

I created a few lights and all behaved the same. When I created the brush, and turned them into light, I could resize them, just like in DoomEdit, but when I do some other stuff, and then go back to a light, I can no longer resize them. I can rotate them, but not draggin the edges around. Of course I can manually adjust the values, but this is a bit painfull. Am I missing something or is this a known bug?

You can resize the lights with the drag manipulator just like brushes. Are you sure you have the right manipulator active (the one called "QE" in the left toolbar)? You can't drag edges of point lights as they are always rectangular.

You also don't have to turn brushes into lights, you can just create lights from nothing using the context menu.

This also doesn't work. I already tried that before. It only works when I just created a light. I can test it, but I think as soon as I unselect it, and then select it again, it doesn't work anymore. I give it a try and tell you if that is indeed the case.

OK. Now I see what's the problem. It's only with projected lights. When I switch the light back to omni, then I can resize it and switch it back to projected. I hope that the light doesn't loose it's other parameters. If that's kept, then this can be used as a workaround.

How do I do that?

Press the V key. The vertices should then go green (possibly depending on your colour scheme) and you can drag them.

Which doesn't work.

I tested on Linux and if you are already in vertex mode, you will have to press V again to get back into normal mode in order to box-drag the light. I'm not sure if this is what is happening though.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
