Fitting Music In To The Levels

Muze

Recommended Posts

So for those who don't know, I've just been accepted by pakmannen as one of the musicians here. In Thief, traveling to different areas within a level the music/ambient sound would change, like when going from an outside area to an inside one, or entering a dungeon/basement area.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how this can work in the Doom 3 engine, and also how to make the sounds loop endlessly while the player is in a given area?

qu'est que sais le grille?

Erm, it's soundshaders. But we don't have any levels yet...or for a while, either. You may be in for a rude awakening.

We still need soundshaders for the maps.

What we need is:

How do we activate specific soundshaders on entering a roombrush?

And can we let sounds slide into others. You know, when entering a new brush it would be cool if the sound wouldn't simply stop and the next one is played, but rather the volume goes down for the other and up for the new one.

Agreed, cross fading would be nice.

So as far as I understand it, looping the ambients will be possible. I also think it would be cool to have an ambient tune (something longer than just a loop) play in completion, and then silence (or ambient hum) for a few minutes, and then the piece starts over.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
