Voice file questions

Moin,

the voice file directories on SVN contain a few READMEs (which are now no longer 0 byte in most cases :) but there is still a bit confusion as to which files are needed for what. Can somebody explain to me what the different folders are for?

For instance, I am looking at leaving off battle_long_range from Thief's Den, thinking that the AI doesn't have a bow, anyway. Likewise, what is "location" for?

Location refers to 'location based' vocalizations. If the player is in the kitchen, the courtyard, the alley...or a few other specific places, the AI will use those voices to state the players location. We're not sure if we'll be able to have that functionality added to the AI for our release next year, but I'm going to record those regardless as they can then be used in the future. The empty files are in some folders so that CVS wouldn't cull the empty folders continuously. Not sure if SVN still requires a file to keep from removing folders, but they're in there.

ok, so sounds files in "location..." aren't used right at the moment and thus don't need to be shipped?

No, I meant README files in folders with sounds files, but where the README was empty. I added generic one-line descriptions to them, but clearly I don't know much what the sound files were for, so the texts are..well, generic :)

One more question, are the "spot_player_distance" sounds used atm?

I doubt those spot_player_distance are used yet. That's when the player is up in the rafters, on the roof...etc.

Ok, leaving them of the distribution then :)

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.
