  1. When I played the demo the first thing that came to mind was that the two weapon restriction as well as the regenerating life were quick and cheesy ways to balance the game's difficulty. It would be interesting to know how much influence Gearbox had on this game's development and how much was actually finished when it was picked up by them. @New Horizon: I definitely know there's two from old pics; I bet you are right though. It's sad to see when that happens, it reminds me of an old Half-Life 1 mod that look incredible, then the last minute they decided to switch to the Source engine, spent a load of time porting assets then gave up: Anyone remember Nightwatch?
  2. I've never been a Duke fan but even I am disappointed that this game has failed to get even a passing grade in most of its reviews, even though I'm not going to get the game, nor was I ever. I'd really like to know what the hell they were doing for so long, writing bad jokes?
  3. Wow the difference is quite good. It made me feel like I was using higher quality headphones. I almost exclusively use headphones so this would be nice, but the price is much to high for me to justify it to myself.
  4. I hope the dev still is looking at this thread. I think a good idea would be to have a feature to convert TGA files to jpg automatically after dragging and dropping them. It's a pain having to convert doom's tga -> jpg.
  5. The whole problem with PCs is the lack of standardized hardware for developers. Even in our mod we've had issues with ATI drivers which needed to be fixed. I wish ATI and Nvidia would work together to standardize some of their drivers to allow for easier cross hardware development, but that's very likely never going to happen. From a business perspective cross platform development is simply a must. You'd be giving up millions of potential sales by ignoring these markets. The biggest flaw with cross platform development is this enforcement of consistency across all platforms. TBH only a couple minor design changes would be required to help appease the PC community. Off the top of my head, eliminating "press this button" on the top of the screen, increasing complexity of controls, eliminating dumbed down menus (Crysis Graphics Menu), using higher quality textures (which the dev companies should have laying around) etc etc. Why don't developers just do this stuff? I have no idea. Think about how different the reception to Crysis 2 would have been if the dev team took an extra week and made these changes.
  6. I think so too but that's not until 11/11/11
  7. I'm going to go out on a limb and say something unpopular. When I first played Oblivion I played it on the Xbox 360 and still absolutely loved it. Only about 3 years after first finishing it did I get it for the PC. Even if they dumb down the graphics it doesn't matter to me because the gameplay is what made Oblivion a game great, and I doubt those characteristics will be sacrificed because of consoles. They already did those things great on the 360.
  8. I thought the interactions with npcs was silly. The player walks up to someone and they spill their heart out.
  9. I'm in the same boat as you Fid. I have a feeling Thief 4 won't be anything like 1 or 2 in which case, I doubt anyone here will be all that into it. BTW, if anyone is interested here's new RAGE gameplay footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4hRlyU-Www
  10. I laughed when I saw "Halo 4, will initiate a trilogy." Didn't they say the last Halo was going to be the final one? On the topic of the game, I'm a little disappointed at the draw distance, but I think it will likely look much better on the PC (crosses fingers). Other than that it looks really good.
  11. Same thing happened to me a really long time ago. I think I must of turned off background processes and forgot I did it. Or I played a map without dmaping first (I think dmaping slows gameplay performance).
  12. Thanks guys! I spent the day just relaxing with family and friends, eating cake, burgers and watching TV/strolling the internet. It was a great day and BTW I love the blimp
  13. It depends. Do you think you would use this monitor? You should look up the value of it, if it's not around the same price that you could sell your Ipod for you may want to reconsider. I did a quick ebay.ca search and it looks like your Ipod could sell for ~$90 depending on its condition. (LINK - I hope this is the right Ipod) So you could possibly have the monitor + $40. Maybe approach him with that trade and work your way down to monitor + $20 as a minimum? Also buyer beware, check out the monitor before you buy
  14. Morrowind 2011 was canceled because some of the authors of the content used in it were upset that their stuff was in it, which imo is selfish. But if you search for a torrent of it you can still find it, and the install instructions are still on the main 2011 website. After installing it most the weapons are missing skins though and the FPS aren't great, but my rig is old. I've been playing through Morrowind for the first time the last couple weeks with this mod. Even though I think Oblivion is leaps and bounds better it's surprising I can still get immersed in Morrowind. Can't wait for Skyrim now Has anyone tried Morroblivion? Apparently almost all the quests work in it now. I've tried to get it to work but I couldn't get the python scripts that it needs to install properly so I gave up.
  15. Wow really nice work! How long do those take you?
  16. I always wonder if the company is having losses as a result of bad performance or a result of the market shrinking the size of the corporation to an acceptable level based on a miniature economic bubble they had, ie: with the Sims.
  17. I've started using this way more than imageshack. The hosting on imageshack kept compressing my files so much you couldn't read the text on them. Plus it's way easier to upload with drag and drop. This is probably the only spam post that I've ever listened to
  18. Wow it's great to see ID still profiting from their decade old work, it's too bad this wont be the case for ID Tech 5
  19. Could anyone tell me about their experiences with Witcher 1? I got it last xmas sale and I haven't really played it because of a lack of time, I got to the first village and quit but it failed to spark my interest. But I'm aware it could be like Oblivion, where at first it seems boring then gets really great.
  20. On the point of Portals. I was never really to into it myself tbh. I cannot quite point to why I didn't like it all that much but I can say level design never really had anything to do with it imo. But considering how big of a following it got there's obviously something they liked I didn't so I'd say check out the demo at least. An FPS I liked is STALKER shadow's of Chernobyl with the LURK mod as well as Stalker Call of Prypryat. If you like these two then try out STALKER Clear Skies. Given it seems like you like fast paced games too, try Killing Floor. It has great mechanics and despite being repetitive I logged many hours playing that game making it worth way more than the 20 bucks I spent on it when it was new. (not sure how much it's priced at now). Another game that was a ton of fun which I want to reinstall was Quake Wars Enemy Territory. There's so much indepth mechanics and things to do. Constant fast paced action and many ways to do things make this game a lot of fun. (I should also note I never really liked Team Fortress 2, so it offers something different from that genre which it is often compared to).
  21. I did some googling and found the article: http://vividgamer.com/2011/03/25/highlighting-feature-in-human-revolution-could-be-optional/ Basically it says that the forum has a stickied poll. I guess we will have to wait and see if they decide to listen to their customers. What a joke.
  22. I just read on reddit (cant find the link anymore) that because of the comments on the forums they're actually going to add a remove highlight and option! Cool! If they could force first person at all times I'd be realyl happy.
  23. How does it compare in performance to Chrome? I ended up switching from Firefox because chrome opened about 10x faster on my old clunky laptop.
  24. I spent almost 20 mins typing up a big essay on how corporations are stupid for targeting mass audiences instead of niche markets like hardcore loyal gamers. But basically I thought I could sum it up much quicker: I think the decline in the quality of games as of late is due to corporations attempting to capture the largest markets with their products. Essentially this means software companies are competing head on with one another to get the best most popular game out there which is why they take old titles like Dues Ex and apply them to their new stuff because they think that since there's already a following, lets get those customers and then some. This is why game prices are going through the roof, not pirating. If game companies had decent leadership they'd understand the concept of Niche marketing. Tripwire is great at this. They've made Killing Floor and Red Orchestra. The audiences for these games are very clear and they've had tremendous success in gaining popularity and thus sales due to their focus on their niches. The crappy leadership of today's game corporations and most corporations want the corporation to grow to enormous size by targeting as much as possible so how could you possibly please anyone when targeting that many people?
