  1. Good point. Sorry Springheel.
  2. Another stream's up: http://www.twitch.tv/rakanbigboss
  3. It looks rushed. There's so many loading screens! All the hubs are crazy tiny, far more so than even Deadly Shadows. Players were having tons of trouble discerning what was climbable or not. If they weren't in the specific place outlined by the designers they would run a wall or up against the balustrade. After watching a few streams last night, I would be shocked if this isn't a mini-Aliens: Colonial Marines. It's not that bad, but it's miles away from Human Revolution. A few reviewers on Twitter have been obliquely referencing how disappointed they are with Thief.
  4. Shadow Warrior's awesome. I can't get behind any future Bethesda/Zenimax effort after the Prey 2 debacle. They tried to shutter Human Head Studios when they wouldn't sell their studio. Just awful folks in charge over there. Besides Doom 4/ Reboot 3 is shaping up to be a disaster. id's lost over 100 people since Rage shipped. It was announced way back in mid 2008, was scrapped in late 2011, and they were hiring a new creative director last year. Bethesda wants Doom to be as big as Skyrim. http://kotaku.com/five-years-and-nothing-to-show-how-doom-4-got-off-trac-468097062
  5. Someone's livestreaming the final game. I'm sure it'll be pulled soon. Edit: And it's gone. Let's just say I'm happy I didn't pre-order.
  6. I'm just surprised how unexcited I am that a new Thief game's coming out. It's my favorite series, but they've kinda lost me with this reboot. So many baffling decisions. Even though Deadly Shadows had some issues, you could tell the developers absolutely loved the series. Thief (2014) just seems like a publisher trying to shoehorn a different kind of game into the Thief name. I'm going to wait for impressions and reviewers before making up my mind, but the game just doesn't look very interesting. Aside from the inconsistent first-person animations, I don't understand what's unique about the game. It looks like it's borrowed from Hitman: Absolution, Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell, wrapped up with an awkward Thief veneer which doesn't seem to sit well with newcomers or long-time fans. It's so strange since Eidos Montreal did a great job with HR. I wonder how this went so off the rails? If it's great, I'll definitely pick it up. I would probably be really annoyed if there weren't a giant community of awesome FM's and there wasn't a super ambitious project like the Dark Mod. Playing through Home Again feels like next-gen Thief to me!
  7. Photoshop, from TTLG, shared a few details:
  8. http://www.vg247.com/2014/01/31/thief-shares-dishonoreds-lineage-but-is-a-very-different-game/#comments-list “The levels are really smaller than say for example a shooter game,” Cantin said. “Being claustrophobic was kind of an important thing for us. You need to feel the world, to feel the city."
  9. It's not the same writer as the previous pieces.
  10. A writer from Strategy Informer is answering questions over on the Eidos boards. http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1977200&postcount=72
  11. I really like the environments, they look top notch, but i can't stand the leather meets emo/goth character design. It all looks a bit badass nerd, particularly Garrett.
  12. Yeah, that's the editor of Sneaky Bastards. Hindes, along with Tom Francis, was one of the only critics who told it like is with Hitman: Absolution. There's no conspiracy going on here. He definitely knows his stealth/immersive-sims. I think we're just seeing the result of Eidos Montreal never having a clear design in mind when creating Thief. They either ignored or never got a good handle on what made Thief special. I also don't understand why they put all this effort into full-body awareness only to take the camera out of the Garrett's head to show you your next objective or to cut away to lengthy third-person cutscenes. It's certainly not worth the loss of player agency, especially since they don't commit to being first-person 100% of time (that would've been cool). It just feels hodgepodge.

It's fair to say Thief isn't on par with Human Revolution or Dishonored. Reviewers who're familiar with the series are going to tear it apart, while the rest looking for another stealth game will probably enjoy it. I can't stand the rigid movement, the unskippable animations, contextual gameplay and the removal of systemic creativity. It looks like this is going to be the Hitman: Absolution for the Thief series. Thief (2014) just isn't for me. Check out this sick escape sequence:
  14. The press recently went hands-on with the final build for 4-5 hours. Looking forward to reading Sneaky Bastards impressions.
  15. Even if that something new, isn't new but rather a derivative stealth game that's done away with most of the unique aspects of the series? Not bashing, I just don't see anything innovative in Thief (2014). What's have you seen that's making you excited about the release?
  16. Loving Broken Age so far! Tim Schafer has to be the most charming developer in the business. There's a lot riding on this game, but it seems to be totally worthy of all the attention and love it's received.
  17. Eidos Montreal wanted to use someone local and members of the team worked with Romano on Assassin's Creed 2. He's not some agile, young actor. He turns 50 this year! I feel bad for the guy, but his performance as Garrett is completely vanilla.. I'm sure he's a fine actor, but this wasn't a change that ever needed to be made. Since the 2009 announcement, everyone besides petty Eidos apologists said Garrett has to be played by Stephen Russell. They didn't listen, and they'll be dinged for it come release. It's a change for the worse.
  18. I'm certain Joe Khoury's never played the early games. No one on the team ever expands upon their fondness of the series beyond saying "it's great." There's never any love or interesting anecdotes when they talk about Thief, and judging from what's been shown so far, I doubt we'll see much appreciation or understanding of what made the series special in the shipping game. The folks at Arkane have shared more stories about their time with Garrett than Eidos Montreal.

  20. It's finally online: www.pcgamer.com/2013/12/26/mod-of-the-year-the-dark-mod/
  21. It's in the latest issue of PC Gamer UK. They haven't published it online yet. I'm sure it'll be posted before too long. Seriously well deserved! Without hyperbole what you guys created is amazing. I'm so happy the team and community is getting recognized for their efforts.
  22. Congrats guys! Thief's spiritual successor is now its own modding platform.
