  1. I'm sure if you were able to get this data for yourself you might be pretty amused and even shocked at the weird combinations you sometimes wrote. I know I wouldn't be surprised - I know some crazy shit I've searched for on occasion, but you'd probably be taken aback by what other people might think if they saw it in this context. For instance, I've searched for "morrowind sex" just so I could determine that TTLG is indeed one of the top google results for that search term. Am I the least bit interested in morrowind sex itself? Thankfully not.
  2. Pretty good stuff there, ascott. Great to hear some modern music for a change (so many people on the internet in my experience try to stick to romantic or classical idioms, usually unsuccessfully). We all know I'm a CLASSICAL guitarist but look what I dun in my other half of life: www.myspace.com/unspecificcollective YES IT'S MYSPACE, anyway I wrote the top 3 songs and played the guitars and recorded it all, my best friend is the singer. Just a bit of fun, eh.
  3. There may be, I know people who use DC++ or whatever it's called.
  4. it varies does that answer your question? just kidding, it depends greatly on the popularity of the stuff - emule has a load of obscure stuff but it's usually quite slow to get - days even, as it goes on and off, if it's only being shared by a couple of people. On the other hand, I have had speeds in excess of 20kb/s which although is not fast, is certainly fast enough for the kind of thing I usually get (relatively rare mp3s, the odd bit of sheet music, some software)
  5. lord knows, but I use emule from time to time and it does the trick.
  6. I'm going to stop pushing your buttons because clearly your mood has worsened since this happened: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1488121
  7. Think of it this way - the "rules" are actually described as "guidelines" and therefore serve to give you a flavour of what is expected. But they also clearly state that they are dynamic and that they depend on circumstances. You're right - there are no hard and fast "rules". But they don't pretend that there are. There are of course some rules that will always be punished - porn, huge images, posting useless threads (outside of commchat), trolling, whatever, but there are lots of grey areas and the guidelines themselves acknowledge this.
  8. orbweaver coming across as hideously embittered by personal experience itt aside from that, sure, I dun played both in the past. I remember making a female character in Fallout, for instance. It was quite funny to get occasionally chatted up by the male NPCs, but it actually gives you a slight advantage if you had the sex appeal trait as well. Surely playing Tomb Raider would lead to the same confusion? I know that some games are called RPGs, but it's not like I really put any of myself into the characters in a serious way.
  9. that's the point - the rules ARE that they fluctuate by whim and fancy.
  10. Yeah, the only question is what are you going to do? Boycott TTLG? Interestingly enough, plenty of people like it the way it is. I hear it's the largest Thief fan community forum on the internet, believe it or not. But your grievances come from holding it to a higher moral standard to which it has no pretence. And certaintly some people in this thread refuse to understand those rules and what they mean.
  11. Surely this explains absolutely everything you all seem to have trouble getting.
  12. To be honest the fact it's an unspecified time doesn't really mean anything - there are lots of cases of members get banned then eventually get back after a while, either through re-registering or whatever, implicitly allowed by the admins as they put enough distance between them and their past selves, as it were. And yeah, it would be silly to say that it's not run by people in a fairly personal manner. The admins have their own personalities and views, biases or whatever, but I do know from experience that they are usually pretty fair - they'll give more chances to people who demonstrate an ability and desire to change, or to those who are generally fine but slip up once or twice, and show less leniency to people who have had difficult histories or past run-ins. It's not democratic by any stretch but then it's more like a club than a country, and I'm sure when we all signed up we skimmed happily over the part that reads about how they reserve the right to ban us - after all, we didn't pay anything.
  13. frankly I far prefer my new LCD but then it is bigger and widescreen, which is just awesome for any desktop programs or music applications. Having said that, I don't find it a problem in games. But then I'm nowhere near a totally hardcore gamer, but I am quite discerning. It's just awesome, though. Wouldn't go back to CRT.
  14. widescreen TFT (but not on this computer) new games tend to support it if they're any good, plus any id engine can be forced to run widescreen through an ini file tweak as can most older engines, so it's not too tricky. Thief, you may have problems with, but not TDS I think.

    Cpu Heat

my pc averages around 40 C it's quite an expensive case and has three fans plus the heatsink and graphics card heatsink as well, though, so this could help it a lot.
  16. Let's not have a moderator-only slanging match just because we can post in a locked thread!
  17. In fact this isn't a dumping ground for TTLG's problems. Go email David or someone.
  18. Oh jesus christ TTLG is not some sort of public service it is just a set of forums and in the end if the moderators decide for whatever reason they don't like you, they have every right to stop you visiting. And I'm sure they had their reasons. And if you don't like it then you have perfectly free choice not to use TTLG whatsoever. On the other hand, let's not turn THESE forums into some denizen of the TTLG banned, just because they're smaller and more lenient.
  19. It would be awfully nice if these forums did not become some spammy marketplace. Please refrain!
  20. doesn't sound like a bad deal put it this way, I paid about £1300 for my rig which is almost exactly the same spec (I had a 512Mb 7900 GT instead of the GT2), but I also had a huge tft monitor and a low-level pro sound card so it all evens out I reckon.
  21. What? I just built a PC with no floppy drive, a SATA II hard drive and installed XP fine with absolutely no need for a floppy at any point during the install process.
  22. both cores run at the same speed and are cumulative at the performance of a 4200+ which does not diretly equate to Mhz or GHz as it is because of the way AMD chips work and the fact they are 64 bit. So it's a little more complex.
  23. yeah it's quite similar to my new one however I hate to dissapoint you, the 4200+ (which is also what I have) does not mean 2x 4.2Ghz, it's more like 2x1.2Ghz in reality, roughly equalling a total performance of 4200Mhz kinda, anyway. It's still great, though!
