  1. You mean tomorrow we could have another one? Please say YES!
  2. That superfluous stuff in a movie, show, book or article was called "the lard factor" by my professor (for Technical Communication). Meaning: normally, if you have, say, a sentence, and you analyze it, you can cut the lard/fat out and keep the meat. The sentence will be to the point and without filler words and all other superfluous stuff that we normally use. The same is of course true for any other filmed or written material.
  3. Do you guys have AA enabled, and if so, which one (MS-AA or SS-AA)? With 4xSS-AA my machine goes down to 20 fps quickly, if there's more than one light source. I have disabled the power save mode, so that nothing hampers with my CPU speed.
  4. Regarding the popularity of the name Garrett, there is also a character by that name in the "Garrett: P.I." series of books by Glen Cook. The series is called "Die Rätsel von Karenta" in the German translation, if anyone is wondering. The Garrett in the books is not unlike The Thief, a bit of a cynic, but ultimately not a bad person.
  5. Is Farrell the first or the last name? I've grown particularly fond of the name "Palmer", which was named earlier in the thread. It's a nice pun to "palm", I think, although some surely will find it lame. Anyway, Farrell's second (middle) name could be Palmer too, right? In that case, you'd just have to think about a family name - or a first name.
  6. This would still mean 2-3 FMs per month, which is really okay. If the TDM community can keep this pace in 2010, this will set the way for the next years, I think.
  7. If I might add, another FM is supposed to be released this week. I don't have the Okay to give out details, but you can expect a mansion mission that will make your heart race more than just a few times.
  8. Is there a female snoring sound already? I mean, the snoring could mask the fact that the female AI is not breathing.
  9. So why not open a thread with suggestions, and after a certain date make a poll with all entries, to see which one wins? Was this idea already rejected, or has it just not been thought of?
  10. So is any name starting with Ger/Gar forbidden, or would Gerhard (for whatever reason someone would use that name) be still okay? By the way, what you guys did with TDM ist incredibly great, and I think you can rest assured that sooner or later the first campaigns will start showing up. I know for a fact that several multi-parted FMs are in the making, so no pressure on you.
  11. Well, maybe I'm an exception, but for my any Thief-like universe *must* have a protagonist called G. or something similar. But I may be very well alone in that view.
  12. I've read this thread with great interest, and maybe I might add something to think about. Since the ancient Germanic name "Gerhard" is often abbreviated as "Gerrit" in Northern Europe ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerhard ), why not use this one here? Granted, it' very similar to the G. name, but if properly explained in the FM (say, the Thief got a letter from mom lying around somewhere where she calls him both Gerhard and Gerrit), shouldn't you be able to use that name without fear of legal implications?
  13. I've just finished the mission. I also had the tree clipping error as well as the snow missing when looking out of the window of the greeen room (see second screenshot). In addition, when I was standing on the second floor directly above the green room (I think), I could hear the house owner walk and talk. I'm not sure that is intentional. Please see the first screenshot. Second, when I get the parcel, it's not displayed in my inventory. Please see the second screenshot. That's all I found. Oh, and I found both secrets. The first one through sheer luck, and the second through using logic.
  14. Well, here they are, from both sides. As you can see, there are no errors here. I'm using an ATI Radeon HD4870/1GB with Catalyst 9.10. A quick note about the windows being transparent: I absolutely love that you can peer inside or outside. I wouldn't have it any other way. On the other hand, my graphics card is powered by a AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE overclocked to 3.4 GHz and backed up by 4 GB RAM, which makes it one of the most powerful computers among the Thief players. That being said, I'm always into trading fps for immersive detail, even if it means that my fps fall below 20 (I have 4xSuper-sampling Anti-aliasing enabled to get more beautiful looks, so this happens every once in a while).
  15. Yeah, back in the day lots of games supported both APIs. Homeworld 1 quickly springs to mind. OGL rendering looked better than DX, with less rendering errors, iirc. But I can understand why the game devs moved to DX (almost) completely: OGL is made by a consortium (the Khronos group), so it takes them much longer to implement any changes. Micro$oft doesn't have that problem, they can change and expand whatever they like. Also, I think OGL was never intended for gaming, much like DX is never really considered for huge applications like CAD.
  16. I need my computer for work, and the software I use hooks into MS Office. S I'm more or less bound to MS Windows. If that weren't the case, I'd surely have tried Linux, but so far only ever worked with Knoppix as an emergency OS (to recover my data after I killed my Windows installation).
  17. Fidcal, there's an even easier way to douse the torch. Problem solved.^^
  18. Bernie, Also, I second the opinion that the mission was a bit too bright. But instead of changing the Gamma, I just lived with it.
  19. Okay, here are my two cents. All in all a very enjoyable little mission, and I didn't have any trouble playing it on Difficult. Also, there were no texture problems with the front steps. However, I noticed that the sky rotates when I look up (I have this problem with several FMs, and even the wiki mentions it. Seems to be Radeon-specific.). Maybe you could ask GameDevGoro what he did differently, because when I played his FM, the sky behaved completely normal.
  20. Okay, I've finished the FM. It took me 1:44:32 to get the 2175/2410 loot. Here's what I think. Also, there are several rooms with odd lighting, or rather lighting that shines through walls. Please see the screenies for examples. All in all an excellent mission that makes very good use of the available space, much like "Minerva Metastasis" for Half-Life 2. Edit: I forgot to mention two things. First, the sky in the FM didn't rotate when I moved my view. There are a couple of FMs out there that have this annoying bug (it's already in the wiki, but there is no solution that works for me). Seems you did something right there, GameDevGoro. And second, on my second screenshot you see that although I have plenty loot, my total loot is around 200. Is this a bug, or is it intentional?
  21. Hi GameDevGoro, I finally found the time to start and test your FM. First question: Second: Third: Fourth: So far it's a beautiful and immersive map. I'll continue and hopefully finish the map tomorrow, so I can give you full feedback later.
  22. And the even better part is, that the MSDNAA and uni versions can also be used by another person, like, say, a brother who happens to have a sister whose uni is participating in the program. 35 € for a complete version of Win 7 64 can hardly be beaten.
  23. Thanks, guys. After a little trying I managed to do it. All ist well, and now off to the thingy that makes the statue weep. You don't happen to remember where that was?
  24. Are we talking about the same hammer that lies on that framework above the statue?
  25. Hi guys, I need help. Thanks in advance!
