  1. Interesting... I may look into it... But, as I was saying, good turn-based games of that sort tend to be rare. I remember Fallout, Incubation, Heroes of Might and Magic (and various diversions such as Lords of Magic), Warlords, Silent Storm. Not many come to mind. Maybe I just don't know them, they don't seem to grow too popular.
  2. I analyze everything too much. Don't worry about me, lol. I see about the lyrics, but then I can't really relate to the song very much, never got involved in the music industry.
  3. The only proper indie game I remember is Mount&Blade, and even then, it is kinda unfinished/unpolished... that's why people keep looking at the big companies - game development is just not cheap.
  4. Compared to the crap that they produce these days this is wonderful... but I still like Pink Floyd better. I do see myself trying out more of your songs out of curiosity. Do you have the lyrics written out anywhere? I totally can't distinguish what the guy is singing (I usually can't, anyway), and I'd like to know, can't really judge the song to the fullest without it. On a more critical note: I don't really catch the theme, and "Rock and Roll is not pretty" is not a theme for me. Perhaps (probably?) the lyrics would help. I think theme is important, others may disagree, "music is just music". The guitar (music) seems relatively unoriginal to me, it's different from others, definitely, but not different enough to satisfy a geek such as myself; it doesn't stand out. Please note that I am a fan of PF, Alan Parsons, and Mike Oldfield (art/progressive rock) so this just may not be my genre.
  5. I loved the Final Fantasy games, but I am afraid my family is not in the possession of a Playstation anymore. At this point, we are PC-only, although we may rent a Wii and try it out, but it doesn't have any normal FF games, as far as I am aware.
  6. I am curious of what may come out of this, but at the same time, while I never touched the original Fallout (shame on me...), I know it was turn-based with a top-down isometric view. Fallout 3 is said to be first person and real-time. I am afraid we can end up with "Oblivion in a post-apocalyptic world", and we sorta have S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for that already... I would have been interested to play a good turn based game, since those don't come out all that often. Yes, it's Fallout 3 not Fallout 2.
  7. My what shrewed force of Common Sense is this not inside the Deus Ex 3 thread...?
  8. I find it funny... and I suppose that was the intent, but I disagree with the idea, so it wouldn't be anything I'd care for. Grats on getting to Cannes, tho. o.O And, hey, American schools are not that bad... compared to Ukrainian ones, at least... not bad at all.
  9. Deus... Ex... 3? *dies*
  10. That's hilarious! But, as I said, Thief is only interesting when you are good at it. They make it hard - no one will play Thief except Thief fans. Btw, Oddity, since you are the "you-play-TDP-the-wrong-way" guy, can you tell me if Garret is permitted to carry a piece of paper and pencil(chalk, whatever)? Because I really don't understand how am I supposed to memorise EVERYTHING. Maybe you can. I can't. And without that I can't avoid all the guards, and I can't blackjack them cuz you said that's wrong, so I'm totaly without options.
  11. I guess it was a commercial move of Bethesda's, they hoped that the fans will patch everything up. Mind you, they did. And the problem with Thief is that you have to be good at it or it won't make sense.
  12. It's very hard to combine everything in a single game. Thief is a whole separate game devoted to stealth only. Some game like Die by the Sword is completely devoted to melee combat. Now look at Oblivion, it pretty much combines 2 games in one. In order for both stealth and combat to be great there, it has to do twice as work. Not to mention everything else in there. Of course, it can't, that is why the thief part is not complete. Especially since most people don't play as a thief.
  13. There is also something like this: http://ipbfree.com/index1.php? This forums uses it: http://z11.invisionfree.com/obsessionstudios/index.php?
  14. Do I have to give my thoughts on the subject for the 10th time? I hate publishers. All of them. From EA to Activision. They spoil the games because all they care about is money. You are blaming the wrong people. It's Jowood that is releasing the game ahead of time, not Piranha. That is what I think. With a few exceptions. When it comes to the developers of the game, especially developers of such rare games as Gothic or Mount&Blade (is a project you do pay for, by the way), I'm not keen to blame them because I like their games and I know they are having problems getting money. That is my opinion, you may as well consider that developers are always money-seeking freaks that sometimes make good games by accident. Gothic always got much less money because it was properly bought only in Europe, while in USA I never saw a game box of it. And as long as I know, they didn't have Jowood as publisher until now. They didn't have any money until AFTER now. Damn what a good thing it was. So they are not that far from TDM that way, if you compare everything. What worries me is that the game itself seems incomplete. And when that is a problem, I'll definately forget about all the graphics.
  15. There are fans of ANYTHING. I'm not addicted to the game. Define "addicted", anyway. I liked G1, didn't like G2 for some reason, and now I like G3. I don't want anything changed there. I like the game the way it is. And I don't care about the lags. Don't ask me why. I just don't. What was new in G2? Not that much. They still went OK. And they will go OK now. They already did. They got past it. A few patches and Oblivion will be in trouble. These are not excuses, these are reasons. I'm not going ot bash Dark Mod or EoC if they come out all ragged and buggy, and I'm sure they will.
  16. At the begginning? It doesn't depend on ram, I have 3 Gigs (1.5 is minimum, btw), same thing. Though I'm more concerned with loading time. I'll probably switch to medium level difficulty, I'm tired of killing one wolf per half-an-hour... Don't call yourself a fan then. I would rather see original games done buggily and graphically low or incomplete, like Mount&Blade, than have some boring game that has nothing original in it but has great graphics and no bugs. These games I'm sick and tired of, the same thing over and over again. The creators of G3 had their plans, ambitious fans and that is a good thing, they gradualy went from G1 to G3 and they achieved them, with casualities, which they are they currently working on. They went slightly more far then M&B went, they wanted to make a game on level with Oblivion, even better, with all the strength and idea they had. I respect them for that. I see no problem in playing with current lag. I can stand it for some reason. They'll sort it out anyway. Not a problem to me. As long as the game is good, which it is. People that I know that like Gothic now play G3 with those lags, they don't complain for some reason. You want to get a boring game but clean with no bugs and great graphics/optimisation? Your choice. Yours only. And no reason or right to bash the developers. It's for them to decide whether to hire students for programming or not, or whether to have ambitious plans. Don't like it - don't play the game. Or wait for patch # 13. And don't drag hardware. There is no way you can get original in hardware (well, almost). Hardware can't be in between, it's either works or not. All hardware is popularized, there is no "fan" hardware. There is no way you can patch hardware in the future. Bad example.
  17. Well, people like oDDity is the reason why I don't like blind "fans". There is nothing more stupid than comparing Oblivion and Gothic. Oblivion was made by a powerful Bethesda company, they have money, experience, time, everything. And they still managed to make the autolevel badly. Gothic, on the other hand, was created by Pyranha Bytes that has little money (why they took inexperienced coders in the first place who are much easier to deal with), few people, a publisher that forced them to speed up the release, and they are not at all in the good situation. Let alone the fact that they are making a seamless world, and no one, let alone them, has any experience on how that is supposed to work. In my opinion, they made a teriffic job. To create a giant beautiful world without any loadings - that is something even Bethesda didn't manage to achieve. What is your configuration, oDDity? I don't have any of those bugs you mentioned. The constant slow-down comes from a mistake with the memory - textures get lost there. They'll deal with it soon. And don't keep settings on low. Raise it up, and pull AA to x16, it may even work a bit better. It won't stop the lagging, the lag will stay with any system, so don't keep settings low. Saved perfectly OK with me, nothing crashed during saves. Some other people got that problem, but there is a program that saves the save games after a crash.
  18. I don't know, Gothic 3 is not an FPS so I really don't care about the little jams. Yes, it does jam a bit all the time, and it goes really bad if there are a lot of people fighting, but so far I managed to do it all right. I really didn't see any other bugs except the "Where is the Guru?" but that gets out randomly so I don't care, like G1-G2 never did that. I hope by the time I reach a large fight they will patch it up as they promise they will.
  19. The regular blabber from: a) Gothic haters. Zealous Gothic fans who can't meet anything new. c) Technos who only care about the current shader version. I like Gothic 3 look better. That's just my opinion. I'm not a fan of smoothing out everything. And the grass is gorgeus, though it is regular green grass, not as good as Oblivion. I can give you screens if you want. But who cares? As long as the gameplay is OK I'm satisfied.
  20. I got Gothic 3 recently and I am completely satisfied with it gameplay wise except with a few things. But it really looks like the good old Gothic with not too much added. Except the combat system is weird and dumb at the moment, I hope they patch it up. Too much FedEx quests. And the stupid lensflare effect, thanks to fans that removed it. They really messed it up with the graphic settings. First I wasn't able to play it because I only had 1 Gb of Ram. Well, I was, but it barely worked. Then we bought up to 3 Gb (my dad uses Photoshop). I loaded it at low settings, it ran OK but it was somewhat jerky in a weird way, and didn't look well, of course. My config is Radeon X850/X800, Pentium D Dual Core 2.8 Ghz. Worked OK for Oblivion, so I was a bit unsatisfied. I played like this for a while, with all the jerkyness. Then I wanted to have a laugh and put everything except AA and DoF to max. So I load the game... it works with absolutely the same speed as it did with the low settings. Then I put AA up to x16. Same thing. I even had the impression the game went smoother... anyway, on my system it doesn't seem to matter what settings I put. It slows down the same way in any situation. The only thing that seemed to matter is the vegetation and view distance of it (can be changed in g3.ini). It made the game a bit slower. Some guys on IXBT said something about the Gothic 3 programmers messing up the memory. They say that textures loaded in the memory become lost and have to be loaded back again, and that is where the jerkyness comes from. The game looks gorgeous, though (in my opinion). Since it is an RPG I don't need a high speed so I just play at max - FoD... Technically it is worse than Oblivion, but Oblivion always had that very slender and smooth look, so now I preffer Gothic 3. It always rooked a bit jagged but for some reason I consider that more realistic and immersive.
  21. Anyone played the Call of Cthulhu around here yet?
  22. Played through the demo recently. Well, I must say what I definately didn't like is DooM 3 style graphics/locations... Boring... I actually liked the afterlife place a LOT. The game has the same old boring human vs. aliens in space setting... If anyone thought the idea of a cherokee guy out there was original - the same thing in Turok 2, they had a guy from an Indian tribe who came to shoot aliens, and he had multiple healths too (I am Turok!). Regarding spirit walk - I don't look at it as something that is used to walk through weird barriers, it is actually a tactical thing. You can shoot in spirit mode completely safe. I tried that thousands of times in multiplayer - going in spirit mode to kill somebody - it is much safer. As the last resort you will at least hurt the enemy. So I really like it. Weapons are same as ever... the machine gun is weird-looking but shoots the same, and a weird scope that is hard to use, the green spitter = flack cannon, then a grenade launcher, then the plasma gun that you can load with funky stuff - the sunbeam was interesting, and there was the other machine gun + bomb as alt fire. Turok 2 still rules weaponwise. Levels are fun because of gravity tricks. Especially in multiplayer. Single player - not so much, the game is very-very linear (no, no, no, no...), not a lot of tricks. Levels look boring because we saw all that space stuff 20 times already. And no sense of direction of course, because there is only one direction you can possibly go. I don't even want to mention aliens that are at the brink of greatest boringness. And I guess my whole post is boring. Another game to spend time on... but I think Crysis will be better.
