Finished in 5 hours 36 minutes with a deal of help from Fidcal and others. Absolutely enjoyed the mission in spite of my pathetic thieving. Had a job for some reason I'm afraid I never did Thanks again to the makers of the mission , you've set a very high standard with this one.

Thank you Fidcal. I guess I suffer from the typical man's complaint of not reading the instructions to anything. I'll reread the stuff I've found ( properly this time) , something I'd already decided to do as although I now seem to have been everywhere and bumped off everything in sight including the spider , I seem to be missing some vital clue. I know I'm supposed to be a thief who slinks unspotted in the shadows but I much prefer to play a mission the brutal way! Anyway , thanks again for an absolutely great mission which , in spite of my failures , I've become totally absorbed in.

Thank you Melan. I charged right through the doors you mention because I had a guard notice me at the time. Didn't ever think of going back that way, just wandering around the perimeter corridor looking for clues as it were. As you didn't give a clue to my second guery I'm guessing . Thank you again.

I've really been defeated by this mission for some reason , I think I must be playing a different one from everyone else ! I've ticked off most of the objectives but I think I'm missing something big somewhere:- and Bear with me folks , I know I'm hopeless, stiill enjoying it though.

Whoops , played for a couple of hours and got a long long way into it. Then it crashed on saving! I made the classic mistake of not alternating my saves so I have to go back almost to the beginning on the only other save I have. Oh well , just have to enjoy it again all over sometime. Great mission btw.

I tried dropping ( replacing ) various files into DM.. Unfortunately , I then ended up with an initialization error ! I even tried patching it again but no joy. Still , all is now well as I deleted everything , reloaded Doom , and DM 1 then updated. The mission now plays so the problem was as you kindly originally pointed out. Weird , but there you are. I seem do remember that after shouldering a corpse in the Dufford mission I couldn't put it down , although when I originally loaded that mission I didn't get the error . oh well , one of those weird things I guess. Thank you for your help with all of this.

I've now used the updater to download all the updated version files to a folder on the desktop. Can I replace whichever file is suspected of being incomplete/ damaged from this? I suspect that would work if that is indeed the cause of the problem and if you agree could you let me know which file I should replace? i'm still downloading the torrent too as a backup.Thanks !

Thank you for the advice. I first of all have downloaded the TDM update window. It downloaded six small updates but the mission still gives the same error message. The strange thing is all other missions play o.k without the error. I am now downloading DM 1.01 by torrent which is taking ages and will have to reload it from there.

Can someone help please. When I try to load the mission I get the following warning. ' error filemaps/heart script line 138 set droppable unknown value ' I then have to press ctrl-alt-delete to close down DM. I have the latest updated version of DM . Any help appreciated. Thank you. p.s would this be anything to do with the bit about secrets ? 'seta mvr_show_secrets 0' mentioned in the first post?

I found Lord Dufford Agree with other posters regarding overdone locks and doors. However , I take Stumpy's point about this not having been intended as a mission to start with. Still like it enough not to give up on it and when some of the outside streets and castle are more populated think the layout will make some great missions. Thank you Stumpy for all the work you must have put into this..

Thank you for the tip about the doors , will try it as I have been in the habit of leaving them open ( mainly so I can remember where I've been ! ) Great mission and thanks again.

What a vast map . I really enjoyed exploring the streets around the castle for starters. Would have loved to have been able to break into some of those house doors ! Massive castle too. Experienced very smooth play to start with , but after about an hour or so's play the mission slowed down wherever I was in it. Does anyone know what might cause this? Almost like it gradually needed more and more memory to run. I could still get around but in a jerky sort of way and when a guard finally spotted me it was almost as if he was chasing me in slow motion.

Excellent mission , thanks very much Springheel and Railgun , enjoyed it a lot . My audio kept dipping in and out throughout , I probably need to update the drivers.

Hello Serpentine. Many thanks for your reply. First thing today I googled ' Bullguard - Trojan-fake-alert-5 ' and one of the links directed me to the Bullguard forums. Apparently , hundreds of computers have been shut down because Bullguard AV issued a faulty update and was recognising Windows files as viruses ! They ( Bullguard ) have been slow in addressing the problem and the only recourse apparently is to reload Windows which I had already done anyway. the Bullguard AV and firewall was a three month trial when I purchased my current computer my old self made one having given up the ghost. Needless to say , I won't be taking up their offer of a subscription and will revert to my old firewall/ av. Apparently , some folk are considering taking legal action. Thanks Bullguard , I'll stay well clear in future! I didn't for one moment think it was anything to do with the mission , it was just strange it happened at the same time. I think Bullguard must have downloaded the faulty update right after I quit the mission. Have now reloaded and look forward to starting all over !

P.s should have said that if anyone else has any ideas on this I'd be grateful for imput. It may well have been pure coincidence except that Bullguard threw up the warnings etc immediately after I'd quit the game. No other programs were in use and I was not online. Maybe a quirk with Bullguard or some strange interaction between it and Dark Mod? I shall play the mission again in due course with some trepidation !

Had a strange problem with this one. I downloaded the pk4 the day before and next day started playing the mission. Enjoyed it a lot , got a long way into it and saved and closed down DM. Didn't do anything else that session ( of about an hour) other than playing the game, not online , nothing. Have just changed my computer which has a Bullguard AV trial on it. Immediately on closing the game Bullguard went berserk and gave the following warning ' Trojan-Fake-Alert.5'. Everything was mussed up even though Bullguard said it had quarantined the 'virus', all short cuts up the creek etc. The only way I could access the computer was by wiping rhe hard drive and restoring Windows 7 . Luckily , everything was backed up. don't even know whether it was a virus or a conflict between Bullguard ( which I'm getting rid of ) and something in the game.Never had this before , but seem to remember someone else posted on this site that they had the same sort of thing with another mission. Certainly not blaming it on the mission but as i say i wasn't doing anything else at the time. will reload Doom etc and try again at a later date keeping my fingers crossed!
