  1. OMFG!!! FFS. Something as simple as that has kept me stuck for two weeks. This just goes to show how being sick stuffs up your thinking. That fixed Dragofer, thank you so much man, I was pulling my hair out. I checked it all over n over again. Why are the patch slashes opposite to the way they are with all computer stuff. lol Beats me. I'm happy now it's fixed and I can get back into it. I like your method of doing that objective too, because the other way was crashing the game. You Sir are a legend. Thanks so much mate Neon
  2. Thanks Dragofer. I think I know what the problem is. You're right in that it's not finding the xdata folder. The problem is it's not finding the fms folder. This is how it's setup, the same it's always been (it used to work fine and I've not changed it). It's all setup correctly. I went through your checklist (same as mine) and went through it again, and again it all checks out. Either I'm blind, or there's something wrong. Ìf I try to dmap a map inside the fms/mapname/maps folder that is also NOT in tdm/maps, I get an error "Could not find darkmod/maps/mapname.map " It just won't find any map inside fms/mapname. I was getting errors in mission.tdminfo file, but I figured that was auto generated so deleted it, and the game regenerated it without errors. The error was a brace missing in line 1. (never touched this file ever). I have gone over n over n over this trying to find a syntax issue, but there is none. It's all set up the way it's always been. I've not changed any of this, and it all used to work fine until 2 weeks ago where it stopped finding the fms. Jeez I've even reinstalled both tdm and dr which says it's my map. I'm thinking now that the reason I'm not finding it is that I've been unwell for some time, and it tends to cloud my mind.
  3. I know that Maxwell, that's what was saying. It doesn't work, it used to work, but it doesn't now. On top of that If I pick up a readable and frob it I can no longer frob anything else. On top of that, the objective I have (setup correctly) creates an error when the map loads. This isn't a syntax issue. I've been stuck with this now for 2 weeks, it gave me a massive migraine and it's beginning to look like no one here seems to know how to solve the problem. Very frustrating.
  4. Thanks Maxwell, but yeh that's not the issue. Mines all setup the same. Most of the time I work in The Dark Mod/maps folder. Once all the building is done, it moves to fms/mapname/maps That's where I am atm. However the game won't dmap anything in fms/mapname/maps, says it can't find it ie, so atm I'm using tdm/maps
  5. My working map name is manor72 at the moment the fm name is Briarwood Manor (with underscore for folder name) but the map name there is briarwood This is used when I pack it into .pk4. Most of the time I'm working on manor## (where ## = current save number). I did as you suggested, put it all into startmap.map, removed the objective (just won't work) added a new readable (after deleting old ones). Result: Still can't frob the readable. <scratches head> makes no sense at all. lol Here's the interesting thing which tells me it's my map. I can take any FM and load it and read any readable, no problems. Do it with my map, any save number and I have the can't frob issue. Maybe it might be useful for someone to look at the map for me?   6. Ok the Startmap works if I change one of the text in one of the books, then I can pick it up and frob it. So I deleted everything in startmap, copied over everything from my map into Startmap, and deleted all readables, and saved it under a new name. The objective wouldn't load again (deleted it) map loaded but again could not frob a newly made readable. I just don't get it! I'd forgotten about Startmap. It's cool, showed me how to do a couple of objectives. Very cool. Forgot about this map. There's also some AI there I didn't know about.
  7. Both really good suggestions. First. I have a test map, a room, a bed, a light and a player spawn. I added a readable. I can pick it up, but not frob it. Here's the test map with compiled files and xdata. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/71512306/test.zip Now Startmap had issues. In DR it gets an error when I try to open the Readable Editor. States it can't find the xdata file. The Startmap.pk4 was extracted into fms/Startmap folder including all sub folders. I just opened the map file from the maps folder, and get the error. The xdata folder surprisingly didn't have a mapname.xd file, it had briefing.xd and custom.xd. Maybe why the error? Could you tell me if you get an error opening Startmap? Thanks so much for helping me sort this guys, it really means a lot. I really don't want to give up on this. Neon
  8. Ok, I've just gone through and uninstalled DR and TDM and reinstalled them both. I copied the current map (one giving issues) and deleted the offending objective that is causing the map to not load. Then I deleted every readable entity on the map, and deleted the xdata folder. Now the map should have no load issues due to objective (it doesn't,) and it should have no more errors from readables. It does. I even manually edited the map file and found a ghost readable and removed it (entity 1506). Then I tested the map, no readables, no objective and there was no readable error. So, then I add a brand spanking new readable entity to the map atdm_readable_mobile_paper01_1 using the Readable Editor Dmap the map, then map it. I shouldn't have the frobbing issue now, and there shouldn't be any errors showing in the console. Frobbing issue remains and I still get this error in the console WARNING:script/tdm_readables.script(155): Thread 'atdm_readable_mobile_paper01_1': Non-existant xdata declaration: readables/briarwood2/jobsWARNING:script/tdm_readables.script(182): Thread 'atdm_readable_mobile_paper01_1': num_pages not defined on readable atdm_readable_mobile_paper01_1 Here's the actual readable No sign of the quote error from above though. I've had a migraine for days now from this and I can't see what could be causing this to occur since it's a brand new TDM and a brand new DR. If it wasn't for the frobbing issue, I could just skip back to an earlier version but this frobbing issue is happening on every single version, even when I delete all readables, xdata folder and make a new readable. Intensely frustrated. All the map needs now is the readables put back in (text is backed up), the objectives defined and brieding/shop stuff done and it's finished. So frustrating.

  10. No, I created the xdata file myself by using entity atdm:readable_mobile_paper01 after setting the mod folder in preferences. I did read the wiki on how to do this first. First I tried the atdm: readable_base but that didn't seem right. I've not uninstalled DR or TDM as of yet, I was hoping to avoid that, however if it's not solved by tomorrow I'll probably try that next. I am getting these errors in game with map loaded. However this is a test version of the map with most of the readables deleted, just one test one and all objectives deleted. This is probably the cause of these errors.   11. No, I've only used the Readables Editor. Now here's something else wierd. I deleted all the readables on the map and the .xd file. Then made a new readable, which created a new .xd file using the Readable Editor and I get the same problem. I can pick it up but can't frob it. It flashes green but doesn't open. It's a pain, cause I can't do anymore work since the whole map is done, all the readables are done (were) and I just needed to do the objectives, briefing etc. Most frustrating. Neon
  12. No, I'm using the Readable Editor. Also the build is pretty late. Greebo gave me a new build so I could work with a Quake 3 map. That will be my next map. For now I'm using DR on my existing map on the same DR build. Latest I think. The other issue with this is that Dmap no longer recognises map files in fms/fmsname/map If I try to dmap a map in that folder it reports not found. All this started when I added the drop object/ai go here objective just after I added a new readable (the drop object).
  13. How would I fix it if it was? There was two xdata files there, I deleted the oldest. It made no difference.
  14. Yeh I did BD, but it didn't help, with or without the objective that prevents the map from loading.
  15. I would hate to have to abandon my almost complete map because of this bug. It happens on every version of my maps even though prior to doing the objectives, they all worked perfectly. How one error in a map can fuck up every other of my maps puzzles me. Worst of all, it's looking like no one here no's why this is happening. I'd hate to abandon an almost complete map because of a bug. Theres been a months of work in this.
  16. Im getting a wierd error. I setup a drop objective which triggered an AI to go somewhere. Now when I try to load the map with map manor72 I get an error line 1 missing trailer quote. That's where it all fell in the bin. So I deleted the objective and tested it again, and this time it loads the map but after I touch a Readable, I can't frob anything. The wierd thing is even if I load an earlier map say manor66 I get the same issue. I tested another map Knighton Manor and the issue doesn't happen there so it's an issue with my map. So I tried an earlier map manor55 (month ago which was good, dmapped it). Same issue. Can't frob after picking up a readable. So after this error, I'm wondering if it's a dmap issue, so instead of quiting and reloading, I just map manor54 which loads but I can't click Attack to start. The game crashed. So I reload the game and map manor54 again without dmapping. I get the same error. This map was compliled over a month ago and I know is good, it worked fine before. This error started on 2.03 the day before I updated to 2.04 which makes me think it's not a 2.04 issue. I thought at first it was a map issue but it can't be. Now I'm thinking it's a bug. Hell I even tried map manor27 which was months ago and as soon as I tried to read a readable, the game crashed. I think the objective issue is a map issue, but it seems it's found a game bug. Now I tried posting this in Newbie DR questions but got no help. So I include condump of both dmapping and mapping manor72.   22. That's not what I really need. I need a log of the console when you MAP <mapname>. Not dmap. I'm getting an error while loading the map which says line 1 missing trailer quote. If I delete the objective which is a (drop item, and send AI to location) then it fixes the error. After you delete the objective you get a strange problem. It loads the map, but after a short while, frobbing stops working. You can't frob anything, nor can use any items in your inventory.
  23. How do you save dmap logs? I started doing my objectives yesterday and when I try to load the map after dmapping, using either map or pk4 method, it gives an error, trailer 1 missing and a black screen that just hangs. I have to end task on the game to get out of it.
