  1. Or just order from eBay a nice used GeForce 6800 for $15-20 or so, and save spending $400 right now
  2. Finally done with my vertical contest entry... Swing You'll get your sea legs ... or die trying ... Thanks to my beta testers: SiyahParsomen Diego Baddcog ---------------------- README: SWING a Dark Mod mission, by Komag for the Vertical Contest held summer 2010 find me on TheDarkMod.com forums, or via ShadowDarkKeep.com This mission is a "platformer" with slight puzzle elements (figuring out where to go next and how to get there). Be prepared to do a lot of falling, dying, and quickloading! Quicksave anytime you are sure-footed, about take a risk Getting off the swing for any reason is not recommended! And try not to get sick ;-) Have FUN!!! Komag - Ben Ramsey -------------------------- BRIEFING: The King's steward has seen you in action aboard His Majesty's Ship Vertigo, and he is pleased with your potential. You are hereby granted an opportunity to prove your quality by successfully navigating the King's Royal Navy training swing. You need only retrieve the high crown (a replica of course) from the top of the swing, and return it to the docking area. As a bonus, see how many of the ten hidden bottles you can find - the more you come back with the more impressed your superiors will be, and that can only be a good thing as you know." ------------------------ Known Issues: - It's possible to stop the motion of some of the moving things, and even the entire swing itself, if you mess with things enough ENJOY!!! http://www.shadowdarkkeep.com/missions/Swing_v1.2.pk4
  3. You just need a new vid card, for now, that's all. The 9000 is a VERY old and wimpy card. You could even just up it to a 9800 for very very cheap and would improve things a TON, or get an old Geforce 6800GT or so for similar price range
  4. Well the messages at the TOP of the screen are about three seconds, it's the one's at the bottom that seem to be one second
  5. Right now it lasts about one second, three would probably be good
  6. I think another contest starting NOW is too soon. Maybe a Christmas, but definitely not Halloween. But no one's stopping anyone from making a small horror themed map and releasing on Halloween, in fact such has happened multiple years with Thief 2 FMs
  7. I definitely like written clues, something in someone's journal or letter or something, preferably in the nearby area such as the same room, but if not then clearly mentioning the room (such as workers report found down in the cellar but mentioning work on "the new back passage in the library"). I think some small visual clue is also good to go along with the written one, not just one or the other, unless one or the other is so obvious that you just plain don't need the other.
  8. Okay, I tracked it, and added the test map "notificationtime.map"
  9. Okay, yeah yeah, I thought that, but I just wasn't sure how it worked like maybe it would be something I could include with my mission files or something. I'm not sure how to upload a test map for it, I'll look into how the bug tracker wants that...
  10. got three beta-testers, that's enough, thanks! Hopefully will be able to release tomorrow, we'll see
  11. PM'd! Maybe one more person if someone wants to, otherwise it's probably enough with two
  12. PM sent! Just need one or two more - I think I'll hold off making a new thread for now
  13. Okay, I'm done with my mission!!! I need just to have a couple people test it for catastrophic bugs. My own performance tests: New laptop with onboard Intel HD Graphics (more like Intel CRAP Graphics) - not playable, mostly get about 4 or 5fps, in a couple spots down to 3 Old laptop with a good ATI Radeon x1600 card - totally playable, get 15-20fps throughout, a couple spots down to 12 (I use v-sync, hence the factors of 60) My desktop with nice GeForce 9600 GSO - very smooth, sometimes 60fps, usually 30fps (again, with v-sync) So I'm guessing it's acceptable for the community overall, but sorry to you out there with on-board graphics. So, how to do a bit of beta-testing???
  14. That didn't work when put directly on the object. Might have to set up a whole trigger system for it to get the effect, don't want to mess with that right now though
  15. Yeah, it shows in inventory with the name I gave it, so I guess that will just have to be good enough then, thanks -oh, now I think you mean something more than just the name, but now that I've tested it some more I think it's good enough as is.
  16. help??? I'll just release without this if I have to, but it would be nice
  17. not had a wreck yet in four years, we'll see how long that lasts!
  18. I don't like the idea of a "low-end version" of any map. There should just be one released version, optimized well if you can, but more than one version is a bad plan I think.
  19. Mine's almost done, just one more sound thing I'm trying to do, then package it up
  20. Is there a way to make the on-screen message stay longer, when you pick up a special loot item?
  21. I think you should not vote at all if you couldn't fairly play the map and properly evaluate it
  22. I'm trying to finish my contest mission and it's a very "platformy" map which will certainly lead to lots of falling deaths and subsequent quickloading. I'm trying to get a feel for whether this will be acceptable due to quickloading being pretty fast (it is for me), or whether I really need to take the time to try to script in some sort of non-death auto-resurrection thing like the training mission did. This is a separate issue from whether you dislike that style of mission (I know some of you will hate it! But some will really enjoy it!)
  23. I really feel that five levels is perfect. I think you just gotta not be afraid to use a 1 now and then. If you just can't BEAR to hand out a 1 ever, then you effectively only have two levels to pick from. Some people cant bear to even use 2's, so they only have three levels to pick from. If you have a 1-10 scale, only 4-10 ever get used, so it's closer to a true five point scale than it is to a true 10 point scale. I prefer a TRUE five point scale which gets USED. Maybe make 1 sound more tolerable. Leave off calling it "Poor", just call it "Average". Then we can actually use the dang 1's a bit more, and then five points will be enough.
  24. Ha ha, that's funny! Glad you found the problem and that it wasn't something bad
