  1. Isn't this covered in the FAQ? If not, it should be.
  2. I agree, I don't see how using crystals would put us over the edge.
  3. Hmm, I see your point. We could keep this in mind for other objects though, like beds, chairs, less ornate desks, etc.
  4. I had the same problem trying to keep the moss arrow from looking like a stick of asperagus. You know, since modelling is our weakest point, I wonder if we shouldn't just stick to the crystal idea for arrows? One model, different textures.
  5. We've had this discussion already. Check out: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...%20dagger&st=50
  6. Looking good. I know I'm out of my depth here, but wouldn't it be better to leave the details for the texture map? That way, we can swap textures for different looks while keeping the basic shape.
  7. Is it worth the extra coding for that? I would put it near the bottom of our goals list. Now that the SDK is going to be out (hopefully) we are going to need to decide what we realistically want to focus on for our first release and what to leave out.
  8. Whoa, can we shrink that image down a bit? Images should be kept at a reasonable size on the forums...if they absolutely need to be bigger than 800x600, then we should use a link. The cathedral doesn't look bad, but that tower really looks familiar. Is it based on something? I originally thought of Orthanc, but I know it isn't the movie version.
  9. Looks good...how difficult is it to thicking the legs? They don't look like they would support the weight at the moment.
  10. I don't remember that model being in the game...are there models in the editor that weren't used? Anything that we can use? Should we be designing our models so that they have swappable heads?
  11. Wow, I'm impressed with what you've been able to do. Maybe it WON'T take half a year just for the models. Hey, where did that headless guy come from in the pic?
  12. Great job Ren. This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about in IRC today. Did you do all these today? Hey, while I'm thinking about it, when we start getting to the point of needing paintings and tapestries, I'll gladly donate some art to the cause so we don't have to rely on clipart or anything.
  13. Looks great...but isn't it better to show it off in D3?
  14. It's hard to tell how far the hood pokes out without seeing it from a different angle. My assumption is that from the side we won't be able to see his face at all.
  15. I assumed the red cap WAS a helmet, but you could be right. I prefer your version, actually. I think what I'll do is have two different versions, a regular guard and an elite guard. I'm going to strip the chain mail from the guard, add your modifications, and add a couple small shoulder pieces (Alexius' argument about hefting hammers makes sense). The more heavily armoured figure I just posted will be the elite version.
  16. I couldn't live without my Wacom. Most of the art you see on my website has been done with Photoshop. I use a 5x8 tablet now, but my first one was a 4x5 I got off the internet for about $70, and it was a great way to get started. In fact, I still have some art on my site that I did with that early tablet. Examples: http://www.mindplaces.com/evighe.htm http://www.mindplaces.com/raeghin.htm
  17. Here's another concept. He's a little more heavily-armoured. Perhaps an elite version?
  18. I don't think it's a wise idea. Not only does it get tricky handing out the money (if any), it also seems a little unprofessional. At the very least I would wait until we have some serious stuff to display.
  19. Look on ebay. You can often find a 4x5 tablet for around $100 or less.
  20. Sounds good. I'll pay that some attention as I go. Things like the armour on the boots, or the shape of the gauntlets, etc. I'll make so that the elite versions have obvious differences from the norm, but can still be based on the same models.
  21. Fair enough. Hey, I don't know much about modelling, but is there any benefit for me to try and design concept sketches that allow you to reuse parts of other characters? In other words, if I were to design a city guard with shoulder armour, would it be helpful if I just used the same shape as our Thief's shoulder armour, and we made it look metal with a different texture instead? Can you swap bits and pieces like that or do you have to do the whole thing from scratch?
  22. No shoulder plates? and these are what? I was talking about the characters in the games, not the concept art. There are certainly shoulder plates in some of the concept art (although if that is actually metal in the t1 art then that figure would not be able to raise his arms). I'm not opposed to a version of our Builder guards with shoulder plates. However, I don't feel compelled to copy what has been done before. Our figures are supposed to look derivative, but not identical.
  23. Really? I can see them fine here and at work. Anyone else having dificulty? (I've posted the builder concept on the website too so you can see it there)
  24. We are certainly in need of 3d modellers. Your artistic style seems very manga-esque, which isn't quite the look we want for thief. Do you have any examples of modelling that you have done?
