  1. Whoa, can we shrink that image down a bit? Images should be kept at a reasonable size on the forums...if they absolutely need to be bigger than 800x600, then we should use a link. The cathedral doesn't look bad, but that tower really looks familiar. Is it based on something? I originally thought of Orthanc, but I know it isn't the movie version.
  2. I wish someone that wasn't good at something would show up just once, it's starting to get to the point where it'll be easier to let someone down than ask to let more people in. It's your call once again, Finger, with Jay and Fjonan on props and DeepOmega and Kyo on models, we definately won't be hurting for modellers anymore. Edit: Keep in mind that you'll need to do some highpoly work for the normalmap. The model you have now is good for the base, but you'll need to go all out with the details to make it complete for Doom 3.
  3. hey guys. just checking back at the forum to let you guys know that i'm still here and awaiting directions. i've only started looking around the dark mod forums, but havent yet seen everything, ill continue on to see what resources / info is available. well, fingernail or whoever's in charge , when you have some work for me, just email. thanks . btwy, forums is an ok way to get informed, but what we really need is an irc channel.
  4. I don't remember that model being in the game...are there models in the editor that weren't used? Anything that we can use? Should we be designing our models so that they have swappable heads?
  5. When you rightclick on the grid he'll be under the char subset...char_marine_asian_chair1. Most of the models have swappable heads, and since I haven't figured out how to plant one on yet I had to leave him headless. And it'll still take awhile to do all the props, everything you're seeing here is fairly simple stuff. I won't be nearly as quick once I start getting into really high detailed victorian furniture
  6. Wow, I'm impressed with what you've been able to do. Maybe it WON'T take half a year just for the models. Hey, where did that headless guy come from in the pic?
  7. I figured I'd go ahead and start doing some props. Already have a bed and a chair done with patches in Radiant (which I'm calling the Rgun props since they look alot like his stuff), and now I've started doing some stuff in Max. And this is it. It's the first time I've used Max in almost a year and a half, so I'm still a little rusty. I know the meshsmooth is a little overkill, but comeon...I wanted it to look cool for everybody. As far as models go it's simple as all getout. But it'll look fine ingame, which is what counts. Now I just need to skin it...
  8. Don't forget to look at the links, not just the pretty pictures (there is a limit on IMG tags in a post). Anyway, onwards: Weapon Models Bow Arrow (just broadhead for now) - figure 146, not 147. Short Sword Blackjack - you know what this looks like. I'd prefer less of a T3 club to more of a T2 style hard material thing. More coming....
  9. The theme is: Mansion. Influences: T2-style Gervasius, Truart, Running Interference type mansion, T1 Bafford & petit Constantine, T3 Overlook Manse, Perry Castle thingummy. Models Furniture http://www.sandersontx.org/victorian.jpg http://images.oneofakindantiques.com/2210_...ned_chair_3.jpg http://www.deaneupholstery.co.uk/images/ch1%20(exview).jpg http://oldimports.com/400/414.jpg http://www.furniture-furnishings.co.uk/Fur...ng_table_lg.jpg http://www.victorianfurniturereproductions...im ages/6505.jpg://http://www.victorianfurniturereprod...m ages/6505.jpg http://www.herringport.co.uk/images/oak/four-poster-bed.jpg Light Objects http://www.llph.co.uk/Chandeliers%20and%20Lights/ELLB175.jpg http://images.oneofakindantiques.com/2399_...light_1_mid.jpg Torch (I couldn't find a suitable image; you know what these look like) Textures More of what we already are making, please!!!! We need more flooring, marble floors especially. And carpet. Lots of carpet. Use original Thief games for inspiration in all cases. More to come, don't harass me yet.
  10. I could make a few props, mostly simple stuff like beds and tables since I'm only an intermediate at most when it comes to working with 3DSMax. It'd be a good learning experience for me and it'd help out the project a bit since, like Fingernail said, we're short on 3D modellers at the moment. Also, has anyone here heard of Speedtree? I've been using it to make some excellent low poly tree models (example heah), you can't get much simpler than this.
  11. Well, Kyo, speaking for myself I think it'd be rather nice for you to get to work on the non-human character models - burricks, spiders, zombies, and suchlike. I'd ask springheel or one of our other concept artists to knock you up some sketches for it. Good to have you with us!
  12. Sounds good. I'll pay that some attention as I go. Things like the armour on the boots, or the shape of the gauntlets, etc. I'll make so that the elite versions have obvious differences from the norm, but can still be based on the same models.

    Pick! Me!

Maus, Please understand that we're not rejecting you, we're just interested in seeing some more thief style artwork, and particularly computer modeling work. You obviously have excellent artistic ability, and your sculpture is quite impressive. Meanwhile, you can show us some of your other stuff by uploading them to a free service. Not a great permanent solution, but it will work to at least show us some things. Try www.deviantart.com or www.photobucket.com to upload some images that you can then link here. (Note that you should link the images and not place them in-line on the forum page.) If you want to get your hands dirty with some quick models or concept sketches, here are a couple suggestions: Concept sketches of architecture, furniture, in game objects, and decorations. Concept sketches of level design elements; scenes containing guards and the thief, for instance, that convey the mood and setting of a level Concept sketches of characters and designs for builders, guards, pagans, zombies, or the thief. Modeling any of the above; untextured is probably fine. A textured model might be nice to view your skills at that also. Keep in mind that we're looking for an appropriate style for concept sketches. Style isn't quite as important for modeling, but it still plays a factor. If you are unfamiliar with the kinds of things we're looking for, make sure you've played through at least the first couple Thief games

    Pick! Me!

I have more art examples then what you can see at my VCL archive, the problem is I have no place to up load work at this time! Yes I like the Japanese styles of art but if you look at: http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Maus/...ptsSketches.jpg I think you will see I can do just about any stile that is needed. The problem with the VCL archive is they have content restrictions on the types of art that can be uploaded: only Furry Art. This stuff is more of my hobby art it’s like my favorite pastime (other then being a pervert, lol). If you don’t think I can pleas test my skills and ask me to drawl something for your project. As fare as modeling and animating go I am not as experienced but I assure you I am very good with sculpture: http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Maus/...01-by-date.html and 3D modeling. As I have mentioned I have no place to up load this stuff. I could send an email with some other art and 3D models if you want to see what I am capable of. I will have to spend some time at home scanning and prepping my other work to show you. Because I cant really use office time and equipment on personal projects. But they do let us getaway with some surfing and non company emails. But I am going to spend the money and get an ISP so I can up load more of my work to show you better what I can do. I have been trying to save money so I could up grade my computers (I need to get a MS SQL server to test/develop my database code for my personal project). Most of what I am working on now in my free time is managing large dynamic persistent environments, which can be streamed over the web, searched, ext... Well at any rate if you would like me to prove my self by just jumping rite in to the modeling or art asset generation pleas feel free to test me! I see working with your teem as a chance to diversify my portfolio and grow more skilled as an artist! But if my willingness to work for free isn’t enough I will be glad to take the time to get my portfolio site back together and pay to host it online so to compel or prove to you that I am a talented and creative artist. that would like to help with your Thief style project. Regards, Maus

If you want to stay free, use Blender (someone wrote an exporter for D3).... You could learn Lightwave and I'm sure it's great, but I think there has been an exporter written for 3DSMax also. Not sure though...check the D3W forums.
  16. I think perhaps I'll have to pick up Blender to carry us over our lack of 3D team....that is, only one modeller. Adverts have gone on D3W, ttlg & polycount: any of you advertise on any other suitable forums too.
  17. The face sketch is here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?act=S...3&st=0#entry796 I wasn't sure whether a side view was necessary...if you'd like one just let me know.
  18. I placed a few sound samples from my keyboard over in the Art > Sound > Sound Effects/Music > "Sound Effects, Ambience, Music" thread. Please check out that post: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?act=S...=findpost&p=779
  19. Hmm, something does look familiar about it to me. Maybe it was only used in certain books or certain notes lying around? Here's the post I got it from: http://forums.ionstorm.com/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=355674
  20. Sketch me a face indeed - great timing, as I just dug out an ancient, terrible model of a head that I was working on when I first got into character modeling. It was a horrible model for a normal person, as its facial features were way too thin, and most character models are Action Hero type people. For a thief, tho, it's great. And on the awesome side, I made a fantastic nose. Hell yes. So, yeah, knock up a quick face sketch for me please thx.
  21. Doom 3 comes packaged with the level editor in the executable. All you have to do to access it is rightclick on the Doom 3 shortcut, click on properties, and add "com_allowConsole 1 +set r_fullscreen 0 +editor" in the target box after the quotation marks. But if you mean how we've made all the test maps, well...we've got lots of stuff down in the (currently?) hidden sections of the forums that go through it all step by step. It's a long process that'll probably bore the hell out of everyone not interested in the technical side of the mod. And yeah, the SDK will be free. As for the Garrett model...I think DeepOmega has been doing it in 3DSMax, not too sure though.
  22. Hello, I offered my help on the coding side on the old forums. Until the SDK comes out, a lot of the stuff I'd like to get started on will have to wait. As a result, I was only periodically checking the old boards, and only just now saw the message regarding this move. I'm still more than willing to offer my help on the coding side. I'm mostly interested in helping with AI, and movement code (Mantling, run/walk/sneak/crouch modifications). I'm also willing to help anywhere else that requires it. Even Art. Sorry for not posting anything for a while, but until the SDK comes out, a large number of things are simply speculation at this point. -oofnish

    Hello!

Hi there guys! This is Jim from DoomCast.com. I've been talking to Fingernail and offered him hosting and some space on our forums! Just wanted to say hello and meet the people who are going to bring out this awsome thief mod! I still remember the first time I played thief, lol, getting chased around the first manor and scrambling up a rope to hide hahaha Hopefully this mod turns out great! Anyway, gtg Jim Doomcast
  24. I'm not a part of the Dark Mod team actually, I can't code, do models or textures anyway. Kinda dedicated to Black Cat Games aswell... I'm just hosting the forums for Fingernail and the crew.
  25. I'd guess that any textures, noises, models and what-not created by these guys would be available to FM authors for T:DS also... Its an interesting prospect. T:DS obviously has quite a head start on the Doomed project. Sensible people might jump ship and focus resources there instead. Here's hoping that Eidos and Ion Storm make some kind of decision one way or the other soonish. Currently a level editor is supplied with Doom 3. Some simple mods are possible by hacking texture, model and other files. I could be wrong, but I think that the format for 3d models is the .md5 file type - which has been used by John Carmack and team for years and is well supported with utilities and file converters. ID have promissed to release the full software development kit shortly - which should allow for some pretty serious modding - similar in scope to the situation with Half Life and the Unreal games.
