Doom 3 Mods

Does anyone have any recommendations for Doom 3 mods? Ideally something that is very unlike Doom 3. I might try a shoot em up though if anyone thinks it is really good. I did play through Doom 3 when I got a few years ago. It wasn't a terrible way to spend a few hours but the whole experience was quite forgettable.

Ever tried Shambler's Castle? It is only one level, and a shoot them up, but it's fun and it's basically Quake with a more modern engine.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

There's also Classic Doom for Doom 3, which is a remake of episode 1 of the original Doom. It features faster paced gameplay, more monsters, and (slightly) more lights than Doom 3 had. It is great for folks who spent hours playing the original Doom, but for someone who hasn't, it might not be so special. It does have a cool intro though.

Then there's Last Man Standing, which is a coop mod with unique content too. Not only can you play through the original Doom 3 with others, but you can play through classic Doom 3, and the LMS maps which have tuns of action too. You have to do things like defend a radar dish, as swarms of monsters advance, and storm facilities.

These were the only other two mods I ever got into besides TDM. The cancelation of Doom 3 fortress and Quake 4 Fortress still makes me sad.

It's not entirely a departure from Doom 3 but the Serengrove map is a pretty nice survival

horror themed map in the Tudor era.

"In Hell" is also pretty cool. All the good demon killing extended, none of the Alien's rip-off stuff.

(Conversely) "Hellgate" take the Aliens movie vibe and amplifies it quite effectively.

Usually, I put any standalone maps into Denton Mod so that I can play them with excellent

weapon feel JC Denton configured for that mod.

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

Didn't someone start work on a System Shock style mod for D3, a bit like The Dark Mod? I read about it in PC Gamer ages ago but could never find out if it got anywhere.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.
