Just Wanna Try Modelling

I was just interested in trying out modelling in maya. I downloaded maya 6.0 PLE and was wondering how i would go about importing a model from doom3?

 

A link for D3world would be great.

Your making animated models?

I downloaded the PLE some weeks ago, but I didn't manage to handle it at all (ok to be honest I didn't ready any tutorial or something, but I simply don't like the whole maya "desktop" ). this PL-edition is maybe nice to get yourself into modelling + rendering, but as far as I know it isn't possible to save your work in another format than the special maya personal learning edition-format, which can't be converted into another 3d format.

@BT: Ahh, so that's why I could'nt get that D3 importer thing to work. Damn, gonna have to get a different program.

I use maya 6 and motion builder for the animation and exporting.

Where to get them? You have two choices - you can buy them, or steal them.

I'm "getting" Lightwave 8 right now. Can that export/import md5meshes?

I think there is a plugin, but you don't need md5 unless you want to model a character.

There is an exporter, but it's shit, and there is no importer. YOu can easiky convert lwo to mb using Deep Exploration anyway.

Ahh thanks. So you use Maya to make md5mesh?

Yes, I'm basically using the id workflow. They used Lightwave to make nearly all the models (certainly all the characters) , renderbump for the normal maps, and they wrote the md5 converter for mb files.
