Issues with HDR

I have recently purchased an OLED TV that supports HDR, and want to make use of HDR in The Dark Mod.  The Wiki shows a ton of variables related to HDR, but none of these variables show up for me on the console.  r_HDR <Tab> <Tab> and r_hdr <Tab> <Tab> return nothing, but r_ <Tab> shows a ton of other variables.  The brightness is way off, the only way I can see the game not super dark is to boost the brightness and gamma up so high the menu can't be read easily it's so washed out (gamma and brightness around 1.3 each).  I see that there is a variable to set the grey point for HDR, but without these variables I'm at a loss for how to tweak this.

I'm not convinced it is even enabling HDR, as I do not see an HDR logo in the top right corner for a couple seconds.  For some reason my Windows 10 is unable to do HDR at 3840x2160, it can only do it at 2560x1440 or lower.  I'm trying to play The Dark Mod at 1440p, but it forcibly changes my resolution to maximum any time I Alt+Tab out or go in-and-out of fullscreen.  It doesn't seem to have this issue with borderless window mode, but it doesn't stay in borderless mode for long, as it randomly reverts to real fullscreen sometimes when I Alt+Tab.  This issue has always been present in The Dark Mod for me, on multiple monitors over the past several versions of the game.

  • Hardware: 4-core i5-7600K CPU, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 GPU x16, 48GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM
  • Software: latest nVIDIA drivers (497.29), latest Windows 10 update (20H2), latest The Dark Mod (2.09/64)

Is there any way to prevent The Dark Mod from changing my desktop and game resolution to maximum when I Alt+Tab?

How can I get the r_HDR variables show up on my TDM console?

How can I confirm HDR is actually being used?

Thanks in advance.

We do not yet have a full HDR mode.

r_fboColorBits can be set to 64 for 64-bit color ( or use the advanced video settings page )

r_postprocess_colorCurveBias can be increased to produce a tone mapping effect.

I tend to enjoy 0.15 or 0.25 depending on the mission

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

There is no HDR output in TDM, and it never was.

The information in the wiki is very old and severely outdated. Please post a link so that we can mark it as such.
It describes something called "HDR-lite", which existed in TDM many years ago. It was nothing like HDR by any sense, just some postprocessing image filter.

Today we use HDR (16-bit color components) internally during rendering, but it is converted to 8-bit on output.
I think supporting proper HDR output can happen, but only if one of programmers gets a HDR monitor to work on 😞

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.
