Question About Blender

Recommended Posts

I would like to download Blender and start to learn a little modelling, but I have a frew questions.

Can I import D3 monsters into Blender to work on?

If so, to what degree can a AI be re-modelled with Blender? Am I limited to changing the color of their clothing or can more major changes be made, such as adding or subtracting limbs.

Whats a rough timeline for the learning curve? Im a modelling illiterate but I learn pretty fast.

Can anyone suggest any other shareware that would be helpful/interesting to a neophyte modeller/designer/mapper

Gracias,

max

The best place for you would be the Doom3world forums. You'll get all these answers and the hundred and one other quesitons you'll likely have.

Blender has its own subforum there.

Yes, you can use belnder to make your own models and put them n doom, but I'm not sure you can modify the existing ones and then expect them to flawlessly use the same default animations agian. It depends if the blender md5 importer imports the vertices in the correct order. I know the maya importer does not.

Welcome to the world of us cheap Blender-heads! The Blender section of the Doom3world forums is great. There are also a lot of good tutorials you can link to right from the Blender website.Blender3d.org Also, check out elysuin.comhttp://www.elysiun.com/forum/index.php?sid=a63f5e236397f6d540aa72af74a929db

there's a really good forum there, too.

The learning curve can be pretty high, but if you're a good learner and put the effort into it, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

As for other open source shareware type of programs, you might want to look into gimp. I don't know too much about it as I have photoshop, but from what I understand it works well and does a good job for making textures and such. gimp

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.
