Resizing Static Meshes

Springheel

Recommended Posts

I'm currently going through and resizing props that weren't quite the right size, like the torch and wine bottles. The spectacles definitely need to be resized (they're about 1.5 feet long right now) but I can't open .ase files.

Can someone either reduce it about 40% in size for me (they're in props/wearables), or tell me if this is the correct line to edit?

OK, I did that (first I had to convert to 3ds format - .ase was not recognized by MAX...). I've scaled them to 70% - right?

I don't know why but material doesn't have the same name as a path to texture? Just - Material 1 and Map #1... And I still can't test anything in game to see if it's OK.

EDIT:

I uploaded the file onto FTP (at models/wearables/spectales2.ase). After converting to .lwo it looks like it looses the smoothing information...

The material doesn't have to have the same name as the path, and really shouldn't, as it just causes confusion if that texture is ever moved.

We're currently using 'tdm_[name]' for our material entries.

Thanks for the attempt...what format is .ase anyway??

I think that screenshot in the tutorial is out of date, sorry about that.

Your material entries can be named anything you want, as long as they're located in a file somewhere in the darkmod/materials folder, the engine will find them.

The last time we went through a model reorganization, the material entries listing full paths became annoying and confusing, because the paths weren't accurate anymore.

To avoid that, and just cut down on the amount of clutter in the material files, we decided to name material entries by 'tdm_[name]' where name is something related to the model (not necessarily the model name).

That entry is then placed in the material file that corresponds to the folder that the model is in. For example, the material for a chair would go in the "furniture_seating.mtr" file, and look like this:

diningchair2

{

wood

diffusemap models/darkmod/props/textures/dchair2.tga

bumpmap models/darkmod/props/textures/dchair2_local.tga

}

(not all our old entries have the 'tdm_' prefix)

All textures are placed in the same folder, models/darkmod/props/textures/

      The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
