Once in a strange moon

Two problems:

How do I change the moon in the tdm_starry_sky_prefab? I wanted to use a full moon instead, but I can't find the place where the moon texture is.

Second:

The moon image is actually wrong. The shadow on the moon can only stem from a earth shadow on a full moon during a partial/full eclipse.

Compare:

(the latter from: http://www.raumfahrer.net/forum/cgi-bin/Ya...m=1156586714/45 )

The "shadow" on a normal moon is actually the selfshadow of the moon, e.g. the bright part is lit up by the sun. And coming from one side only, the sun can't light up much more than half of the moon as the other side will always be in the shadow of the moon itself (it is a sphere afterall :)

So the one we currently have has an impossible shadow on it.

Unless of course, you want to simulate an eclipse - but since these eclipses happen so fast in real-life, this isn't a good idea as the same moon image will be shown during the hours of the map <_<

For changing the moon face, go into the tdm_sky_starry prefab box and hide the patches and lights. You'll eventually find a very small brush textured with nodraw. One face of this brush has the moon on it, this is the one you'll want to swap.

I thought I hid everything and looked at everything, but I must have overlooked that brush :)

Will do tomorrow after some sleep and then add it to the wki, too. Thanx!

Btw, is it possible to "move" the moon by moving this brush, too?

Good eye there Tels. It almost looks like a crescent moon though eh?

Not to the pedantic nit-picking eye - it looks more like a giant eyeball to me :D

Will fix up that moon texture tomorrow, now it is bed time for me :)

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
