My monitor is set to 1024x768 at 100 Hz.

I reinstalled Doom 3 and whenever I play it refresh rate drops to 60 Hz. I tried "+r_displayRefresh 100", but it does not seem to work for me. Any ideas? I remember having this problem before, but I have no idea how I solved it.

Help!

[EDIT]

I used this program (RefreshForce):

http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/

to set my refresh rate.

It works great!

Timedemo showed 51 fps before. And now (at 100 Hz) I have 91 fps!

If anyone wants to use ReForce... a word of warning. One needs to set desktop resolution in Doom 3 before using this program. If, for example, Doom 3 is set to 800x600 while desktop is 1024x768 (with ReForce), the monitor will freeze and the game won't start. :( Strange. So if you are planning to change resolution in Doom 3, start ReForce and click on 'Restore original settings' first.

Greetings,

there is no need for an additional program that gives you trouble with screen resolutions.

Simply put an empty textfile in your base-directory, name it autoexec.cfg and write

 seta r_displayrefresh "100"

in it. Maybe it didn't work from the commandline because syntax should have been "+set r_display..." instead of "+r_display..." like you tried.

Wow, funny, I thought it is really impossible to get more than 60 FPS in D3. That would be a way to benchmark things above 60 FPS.

I'm not sure about this, but i think the display's refreshrate is not related with the maximum FPS or the "tick". At least unless vsync is on, what I assume is the case for Bukary's findings.

In theory. I didn't test anything, to lazy to fire up Windoos now.

There should also be a command like "com_maxfps" for altering the framelimiter. At least this command existed in very many other ID titles.

The decision was to prevent players from having a benefit by having higher FPS in multiplayer. This was an issue in Quake 3 where certain jumps could only be made with higher FPS.

Better get used to it though. Doom4 is slatted to run at 30 fps.

That's what I thought when I posted yesterday. But then I did some reading at modwiki.

Seems like you can freely change maxFPS and refreshrate in Quake3, but it doesn't work the same in Doom3.

The wiki says framerate is limited by both refreshrate and tic rate. And on the id Tech 4-page it says customizable tic rate came as a new feature for some Quake 4 point release. It is not mentioned for Doom 3 there, so atm I guess it can't be done.

edit: Just stumbled into a cvar called "com_fixedTic" -- it lets you set the number of tics for each processing cycle or something. Setting it on 2 or more speeds up the game rapidly and can give you a few minutes of fun. :D

This problem has been fixed long ago. There are many trickjumpers playing on comparatively low fps.

I posted about it before, but I think the default tdm logo video looks outdated. For a (i.m.o.) better looking version, you can download the pk4 attached to this post and plonk it in your tdm root folder. Every mission that starts with the tdm logo then starts with the better looking one. Try for example mission COS1 Pearls and Swine.

I finished DOOM - The Dark Ages the other day. It is a decent shooter, but not as great as its predecessors, especially because of the soundtrack.
