Maya MD5Mesh importer

It works for all Doom3 meshes, not sure if it works for all darkmod models too.

I downloaded the importer above but can't make heads or tails of the instructions. I have only two files in the .rar file, a mel script and a "makefile" file. The instructions say "Just put the.... icon in “my docs/maya/6.0/prefs/icons”". But there are no icons in the rar file.

It also says to modify Line 9 of the melscript to replace "$gDoomBasePath" with my doom3 path, but my line #9 doesn't have that string (lines 10 and 12 do, however).

I could use a bit of assistance here...how do I set this up to be able to import our md5meshes?

First copy md5toMaya_019b.mel to your C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\maya\7.0\scripts folder.

Open the file and change $doomBasePath to your own local folder.

(example)

global string $doomBasePath = "E:/gaming/Doom3/base"; //print ("\n$doomBasePath="+$doomBasePath);

Copy the line below and change it with your own local path:

source "C:/Documents and Settings/squill/My Documents/maya/7.0/scripts/doom3toMaya_019a.mel";
md5import;

Start maya and open the script editor. Paste the above line into the script editor window and press ctrl-A to select this line. Hold down the MMB (mine is the scrollwheel button) and drag it to one of your (custom)menu shelfs in your maya window. If you click on the new button it should launch the exporter. In the shelf editor (pull down menu on the right next to the shelfs) you can change the name and icon.

      I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

      briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
      What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
      I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

      Trying to be productive on my down-time before Capcom releases Akuma and my son is constantly on my PC playing Street Fighter...

      Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

      The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
