Sound problem:

Evening

Normally I wouldn't ask for a tech support (being that I would fix myself), but this issue is really beginning to annoy.

My specs:

Hd5870/Qx9650/Xfi/Win7x86 all upto date/latest drivers etc.

Essentially, Im getting sound distortion that can be best described as the line level being over loaded. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver so the problem isnt related the driver I would assume. And the problem so far only seems to effect TDM, when in a doom map I don't appear have the issue... ambient music with heavy bass will accentuate the issue and doom dosent have too many bass heavy ambeints for me to bew 100% sure. Also i don't recall having thisd issue in other games but I am going to test to be double sure.

The only fix is to lower the SFX and Ambient volume levels from the main menu to 80% and the main volume level to 90% and only then does the issue for the most part resolve itself. Im am mostly confident that

So the question is have other people who have creative or other sound cards had/have this issue? otherwise is there any settings or suggestions that might account for this issue..?

Have you tried disabling 3D-CMSS etc? Also make sure you're in game mode I've heard people complain about strange stuff happening in other modes.

I remember having trouble in heavy bass situations in BF2 with 3Dcmss enabled(iirc it was the choppers that used to cause it the most, but it was always there in other areas and less so if you turned stuff down), it sounded over amplified and cut off and was generally pretty crap. I've never used the crystallizer and it sounds strange. If you're using THX surround etc you also have another set of options for games there.

Serp is on to something. This sounds like an equalizer problem: probably within your driver/utilities. My sound card utility has some built-in 'equalizer' settings such as "rock" "jazz" "hip-hop" "classical" "bass" "treble". Turn it off. Any enhancements (notably Equalizers, individual speaker boosts, 'WOW effect', 'trubass', and '3d-CMSS') can cause sounds to clip at high volumes.

As i reinstalled the driver, all setting were stock which means the bass setting was set to flat and other things like 3Dss etc are all off... But it should be noted even with the bass or main window volume setting set to high, in other games including Doom itself I don't get this distortion. Its all related to TDM..

So whats different about the audio Tdm...?

The defaults on my box have both the crystallizer and 3d crap is all enabled in game mods :/

However you can try s_useOpenAL 0 (and perhaps s_useEAXReverb 0), see if that changes anything... nothing else comes to mind really

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
