  1. Ideally, mappers could just edit a property on the object called "static until frobbed" but if there's another way that's almost as simple then no need to specifically implement this.
  2. If you're talking about ones you just bought through iTunes, no - it's impossible to do it directly. But iTunes lets you burn a plain audio CD of any songs you want. So just burn to a re-writable CD, then use any MP3 ripping tool (even Windows Media player, you can rip straight to unprotected wmv which is more or less the same thing) and you're good to upload them to your favorite mp3 player. That's what I do.
  3. Wow, whatever works Glad it's running again.
  4. But you can get max to tell you the true poly count (3 point triangle). I think later version have this built in, but earlier versions you can add the "poly select" modifier, then select all, then a number in one of the side panels will tell you the true poly count (can't remember exact details sorry).
  5. The usual approach is to set the key there as a static entity, until it's frobbed. Once you have it, and then drop it, it's a moveable. And of course the player can never replace it on the hook themselves.
  6. NH really knows his stuff. He's a professional muso (his band opened for Aerosmith!) and has a great background in recording and music and stuff.
  7. Of course I was talking about the posts the others guys made, not yours. In real life, rats are a blur, they dart from point to point, you see their feet scurrying along but not in enough detail to see exactly how it contacts the ground. Unless they haven't spotted you yet and are sniffing around. Don't know how well we can replicate this behaviour but if we can, it may make focusing so much on the detail of the walk cycle pretty redundant. This is easy, just go to the timeline, bottom right hand side of the screen, where the "snapping" dropdown box is, and change it to "No snapping" Now you can add in as many detailed frames as you want, and yes this will still hugely affect the final result, even though techincally the animation only runs at 25 fps or whatever it is. For example when I animated the guard shaking his fist violently, it was very robotic and slow with a keyframe on every frame. But i turned snappng off, compressed the duration of the shake (the keyframes became more closely packed) and you can still see him shaking his fist fast in the final anim.
  8. I wonder what happens if you choose "No snapping" on the bottom right, down on the timeline, so that it plays as smooth as it can when you hit the play button?
  9. Yeah we plan to have elite guards that can move quietly when searching.
  10. That wouldn't give you much control over the gameplay though. I imagine the ideal interface would be to place a guard, and then link it to several spawn points just for HIM, which are randomly selected on map starts.
  11. Cool - you should write for their website
  12. @Fidcal VLC is good for playing the myriad formats of video files you'll download from the web. I agree about the missing repeat feature, but it's constantly being updated, can't be far off. Your graphics glitches are odd - try updating your video drivers?
  13. Well not even that - you can take one anim file from one character folder and just copy it over to another character and it'll work, I'm pretty sure. Only when the number of joints change do you have to re-export. I don't know, I'd be pretty thankful! (here comes pun material) I'm a fan of BlackThief's hands (told you so) though I don't want ascottk to think his efforts converting all the characters to mitten hands would go unnapreciated - this kind of re-working is gonna happen when making a game, but the fact that he achieved it amongst all the other stuff he did to the models and rigs shows how technically competent he is and how lucky we are to have him on the team. As for rigging re-work, that's proportionate to the size of the area that has to change I'm pretty sure.
  14. Just pointing out, they wouldn't have to be re-animated for #1. I'm pretty sure the mitten hand versions still have the same number of joints as the non-mitten hand versions we use to animate in Motion Builder.
  15. Don't use quicktime to actually play quicktime files. VLC plays everything, even FLV files http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
  16. Yeah the bumpier spider is better
  17. Hahah, what a great thing to be reading in my lunch break...
  18. I've heard the term "Oriental" is fairly colloquial, and to some even has negative connotations. I think the correct term is "Asian". Someone can correct me on that. I did a bit of reading here to back up what I heard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oriental
  19. Oh well if nothing else, the girl on the magazine is pretty hot
  20. The quicktime thing is probably just a marketing thing. That's Macintosh for you.
  21. What about characters? I can't check from work some exact examples, but from memory there are things like "guard_builder" and then "house_guard".
  22. That's a very good point, and works well in practice. My friend's younger sister was getting "addicted", spending wayyy too much time online at the detriment of other things, so they just pulled the plug and took control over how long she was on for, enough for her to do her research for school. It's much easier and quicker to convince a kid this Josh person existed, using MySpace though. Really, letters aren't any comparison - pen pals weren't as popular before the internet started. MySpace is pen pals x 1000. Well yeah, it actually tells you this in the article...
  23. Well yes I agree, I thought that would be insinuated by the "mucking around" term
  24. I'm trying to get the most out of my life, so I've got a lot of things going on Personally I have a great mobile phone that my Dad got me last Christmas. Thanks to him, remembering things are a lot simpler. It has a calendar in it where I can set reminders to go off at any time. I use it for everything so I don't have to keep my mind cluttered with things I have to remember. Eg. If I have to take something home from the office, I put a reminder about it for 6pm that day, so I'll see it just as I'm about to leave. Easily the best thing about this is that I don't have to happen to be near a computer. I can be out anywhere and still get my reminders.
