  2. Ms's spyware programe gets rid of some as well but please note that many of its possitives can be false. Make a text file and name it the same as a known spyware file and it tells you it is spyware. in some cases the contents of a file can do this too.

  4. :lol: I dont think thiefs light gem was perfect. I know on occasion the upperpart of my body should have been in light but the gem showed black.

  6. A strange madness has taken my elder brother and he has decided to set-up his own server (He is a sys admin/programmer/resercher at the university after all). Therefore this weekend he will be ripping out the lan from our house, rewiring, setting up the server, then changing the website and the email over. This is may go smoothly but you never know. My email is already down as he has set the new dns already I hope to reappear sometime on Sunday. Have a nice weekend all.

    I must be odd. I have a 6800 gt an a64 3200 and I still run my games at 1024/768. Most of the time I dont bother with aa either af is normaly stuck at 8* though. The game doesnt have to looked amazing to me as long as its fun. which to me at least, doom3 was and is, so is thief 1 come to that. I would agree though that doom3 can still look great at low resolutions edit : oddly enough my desktop res is 1600/1200 as its easy to edit at that res

  11. So I wont be lonely for much longer? Be careful though they stuffed me down in a cold, dark, damp cellar and wont let me out, or give me my dinner come to that. They told me it was so I could study the lighting but Im not so sure now
  12. Looking at james bond most of them are rated 12 here (uk) so its strange how different countries rate things. I just hope the 1.3 patch for doom3 comes out soon (if I havnt missed it) It has skybox apparently I havnt bothred looking at the expansion yet, though I own it, as I dont think it would be a requirment of the mod.

  15. Thank you for the link Oh If I dont use atlas what do you suggest? planar just seems to show me one face the others of a block for example, I cant change at all. It doesnt seem to unwrap the object for some reason.
  16. I seem to have it working a bit better now. I can get most things (this object) sorted with an atlass map. and it comes out looking better than 3dmax Now to work out how to do tubing in lightwave.

Im making some of the architeture with object's as the bsp seems to freak with some complex brushes(I dont know why) One object I made in max that shows what I mean is here http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=1845 Im just using one of the wall textures and applying it to my objects. The arched celler shown in that thread comprises of 9 objects with each of those having about 50 subobjects making the whole. While alot are the same shape and can share the same uvmap alot need a different uvmap. The reason Ive moved from max to lightwave, is the formats. The ase file for the whole celler comes out at 25mb where as the comparable lwo is 2mb (from a converted 3ds) Also as far as I can find I can only have one uvmap assigned to a surface.
  18. I must be honest that just went over my head. I have had a look at the tutorials at newtek and they arent very helpful. can you point me in the right direction? Thanks Edit; oh and how can i have multiple object use the same surface but with differant uv settings?
  19. You need to look at doom3world.org 's big list of tutorials http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=3017 I would also suggest registering at www.3dbuzz.com and downloading their vtm's, they arent in depth but they are very good for getting used to the editors ui
  20. My brother being a nice chap, just bought me a copy of lightwave 8. A thousand ponds isn’t a laughing matter but he is a nice chap as I said. Any way I have spent the afternoon and evening trying to get a simple block into doom3 and have it textured properly. I struggled mightily to get it to work but the uv mapping would not allow me to change the points I wanted. The wall behind my desk has several new dents in it and I have lost yet more hair I can ill afford to loose. Anyway the nice chap saw what I was doing and said "oh didn’t I tell you, you need to download the 8.2 patch to get uv mapping to work properly?" Now he just spent a thousand pounds on me that I didn’t ask for but his throat seemed to have a magnetic pull for my hands. I resisted and instead created yet another dent in the wall and downloaded the update and it works! I can now get the maps into doom3 and I’m learning how to uv map slowly. I think 3dmax is much better at uv mapping but allot worse at everything else It would be really nice if lightwave had a cubic map under uv map types but it doesn’t. I’ve asked over at doom3world but Ill ask here too, can anyone point me to some tutorials on uv mapping in doom3?
  21. You could try the first(bootable) hardrive in that. winxp will freak though and this may mess your registry. Can you make a backup of critacal suff, set your second hd as primary install windows, and see if that wiorks?

  23. Thanks all I got it setup now so it runs a backup of my maps to my network server (not as grand as it sounds) on startup
  24. I haven’t posted any images, or got any work done today as I had to reformat my computer. I had a very nasty crash no doubt brought about by running dromed, doom edit, winamp, painshop pro, gimp, mozilla and powerdvd all at the same time. Yes a duel ( is it duel or dual? sorry to be thick) core cpu would be nice But the upshot of this is that the map I was working on, the backup, and strangely half the other files in my map dir were corrupted and windows refused to boot except in safe mode where it promptly crashed. To save several hours I just formatted and I now have everything up and running again. Now its not all bad as I, luckily, have a back up from last night so I just lost a little work today but on to the request. Can someone with knowledge of the archaic language of dos write me a .bat file, or rather just tell me how, that will make a backup of my map dir on start-up? I know how to set the start-up to work but I don’t know how to make dos backup a dir. Does anyone know? Thanks p.s. I wasn’t sure if I should post this in general or not
