  1. I was really looking forward to this game, but given the horrible reviews it's getting [see IGN] I'm very weary of buying it. I might just end up waiting a couple months until it's 20 dollars.
  2. Could someone fix scratched in the wood texture category. It's great except for the huge black lines used to seperate the boards. I think the black part should be brown like the rest of the board, [but darker] and the bump map used to emphasize the separation.
  3. A tool I've used for a really long time which is very easy to use is Serious Samurize. You can set it up so that it displays text on your desktop over your wallpaper and it reads it from a text file, so it's easy to modify, just keep your text file up-to-date.
  4. I think it would be very useful if there was a button in the model viewer to make collision textures invisible. Because when they are visible [by default they are] a lot of the time you cannot see the model because of them and you have to exit the viewer and go to filter and find it then open the viewer back up, whereas with a button on the viewer, you could just hit it.
  5. I never liked Quake 3 personally. I really loved Quake 1 and 2 though, probably because they were so single player focused. Even Quake 4 was pretty fun
  6. Terrific stuff! I've been waiting for things like these for quite some time

    tree models

I haven't tried this but it should work. After scaling the model, why not set solid to 0 and map in your own collision mesh using collide brushes?

    tree models

There's a tutorial on it on wiki
  9. Personally I think it would be somewhat silly to re-make all the popular Thief series missions because people already played them and know what to expect. What made them so cool was the first time through not knowing what to expect

    Tels' textures

wow! I'm goign to have to retexture my map using some of these much cleaner textures
  11. Actually, have we considered modding the imp to look like one of these characters [specifically the blue one]? Because I agree that it's fairly dumb to have a large creature who functions just as if he was holding a sword like a human, [like in T1] but if we used the rigs of the imp from D3 with some slight modifications, we could have him climbing on walls and everything, and I think that would be a vast improvement from the creatures original form. Of course since the goal of the mod isn't to copy any games we'd have to get our team to put some creative touches onto a character like that. But I agree that a creature like this [never was a fan of the green one] can add to the game if done with VERY small pinches. I think there was only 2 of them in T1.
  12. Personally, I think it would be a bad idea, only because people would be saying, "what is that weird thing I see on the corners of the screen when i move around fast" and it would be unnecessarily polygons added to be rendered. If we had more flexibility in terms of the engine and it's limitations I think it would be more feasible.
  13. I've never worked in light/shadow mode because of the performance hit it already has on it. It should really only be used to work on the lighting, otherwise lit mode is the best way to go. Maybe if we even had an option in radiant, a light editing option, which made it so you can edit the lighting and only the lighting [maybe that would increase performance] while calculating shadows and stuff.
  14. I've seen pics of this, it looks interesting but I've never really spent the time to read up on it. It definitely sound like a game I'll at least rent
  15. The only downfall to using dark-radiant over Doom3edit is that D3edit has dynamic lighting in the 3d preview functioning properly where-as Dark-radiant does not. However, I find DR to actually be easier to use that D3ed and far more stable. It's quite honestly one of the best level editors out there right now in terms of functionality, I love it to pieces You can build literally anything you want using patches and brushes, you don't even need to use a model editor, which is great for me because I don't know how to use any model editors. And the mod has a huge variety of great textures, but you may end up making a couple yourself if it cannot fulfill your needs.

Crysis single player demo impressed me more
  18. On the topic of annoying cut-scenes I think most cut-scenes in games are boring now. Halo3 had some small ones and I just sat there hitting the button over and over trying to skip them, their so boring. The worst I've ever seen however were in Call of Duty 3. You cannot skip them, their pointless and they are SO boring!
  19. That's what I thought was so great about halflife 1, you had the ability to do anything during the cut-scenes including killing the guy who was talking, I don't know why they took that out of halflife 2, which made it just really REALLY annoying to get to a part where some guy talks for 10 mins about something you don't care about and there's nothing you can do. To Oddity I think this demo is sort of half cinematic and half game play because you have to be involved in some aspect of the control of some of the cinematics such as pressing up down left right ect ect or activate the area where the cinematic takes place, ie: climbing a wall, so it isn't that bad.
  20. Actually Clive Barker was supposedly very involved in the production and design of this game, from what I've read about it anyways. I actually like it sometimes when games use a lot of non-player-controlled parts in them to move the story line along, that is of course if the story is good. For example Final Fantasy 7 had a huge amount of these types of parts and I still thought it was very fun.
  21. Has anyone tried the demo yet? It came out recently and it's very short but it really showcases the strong points of the game I think. The way it's set up really gets you into the game, I love how the player gets to see what he/she is doing in the fps mode through the game and the fights you can get into are truly some of the freakiest things I've seen in a video game in a really long time. The game looks like it has great potential and I cannot wait to buy it! Thoughts? edit: oops I thought I was posting this in off-topic, can someone please move this thread
