  1. Looks like they're focusing on single player, not multi, so you might have to look elsewhere.
  2. For the record, there is a brush at street level on LOTP that will cause the mission to fail, even if you manage to make it down there. The whole idea behind the mission is that security on the streets around Angelwatch is heavy due to the party there, so Garrett decides to infiltrate via the rooftops. I think Sotha's solution is the least of all evils - the player is instructed to stay on the roofs, and if he doesn't, fade to black, fail. Or the spawning AI idea. If you let the player survive the lower areas, then it's not a true rooftops mission and the thrill of staying up there is gone, which is kind of the point of doing it in the first place I think. Sounds like you've been playing Deadly Shadows.
  3. Wait, Unity is a bad engine? Wait, <double take>, Shadowhide is back?
  4. Use the newest version of Tafferpatcher - it will let you install T2 from disk or iso, and apply all the fixes and patches that have been implemented over the years, including the new 1.19 patch. No need to worry about -lgntforce or multi core issues or anything else. Any will work, including the new FMSel program included with the 1.19 patch. Also, why is this being posted in the TDM Fan Missions forum? No big deal, just thought it was weird. I also noticed it didn't take long for people to rip on T2 and play the TDM superiority dance, but whatever...
  5. I was pretty much sold when I saw "Thief style visibility meter" and sent my pledge in.
  6. Should a torrent be started too? I can seed, don't know much about getting it started though.
  7. This is good news - but very much ON-TOPIC - why is it here?
  8. I just checked my Newegg account and it's actually about 3 1/2 years and the cost was more like $750. Some of the stuff from my old system carried over. At the time I think I jacked up my graphics card a notch or two so it's still pretty good. I believe Thief 4 has been confirmed for the Unreal engine, although I doubt what Arkane/Dishonored has done has anything to do with it.
  9. I can vouch for Biker's expertise - he helped me build my machine (I say "helped" but what I really mean is he told me exactly what to buy and I just wrote the check ) - purchased almost 4 years ago at a cost of $900 or so, and it's still running strong and plays new releases super smooth. I can almost run Dishonored maxed out. BIker, I'll probably be calling on ya in about 2-3 years or so when Thief 4 comes out.
  10. I get the feeling AngelWolf never intended to ask anyone for permission to use the mod - I believe he assumes since Doom 3 is open source that he can just do it. It probably needs to be clarified that this isn't the case. Selling TDM in just about any form just feels really wrong - I see a pretty dedicated crew around here who have been creating this mod for years for just one reason - fun. @AngelWolf, I think Sir Taffsalot has the right idea. It's a long road, but create some outstanding things in TDM, and make that your portfolio/resume. Guys like Purah and Digital Nightfall started by creating kickass Thief campaigns, and now they're working at Arkane and were instrumental in developing Dishonored. If you're looking for a quicker route to $$$, you can always grab a copy of Unity or UDK and do your own thing.
  11. Don't want to derail the thread too much, but what do people have against Steam? I see it as a great way to get games delivered right to your PC, and they run a lot of sales so you can often get good stuff cheap. There's an offline mode so you don't need a full time internet connection to use it. What's the main complaint about it? I've never had an issue so I guess I just don't get it.
  12. Yeah, if you're used to TDM, I'd crank up the difficulty. I'm playing on Very Hard, and some areas are challenging but overall it's still smooth sailing. 15 hours seems like a bit of a speedrun, I played a more casual pace and tried to explore every inch of the first full level, and it took me an entire evening. That's with quite a few restarts and some experimentation too though. Overall, a really fun game, with not only decent stealth gameplay but a lot of references and nods to the Thief series.
  13. This game is a lot of fun so far with lots of options for different styles of gameplay. Definitely Deus Ex/Thief inspired in a whole lot of ways, but still a cool new IP on it's own too. I think they borrowed a little something from TDM though - as soon as I jumped up on a ledge where pursuing AI couldn't reach me, they started throwing rocks at me.
  14. @Springheel - I posted a walkthrough on the previous page if you need help.
  15. Interesting points all around - I think this might be why Eshaktaar's Broken Triad is so popular (and probably my favorite FM of all time). The first mission is pretty much as Sotha describes, clear cut objectives and defined tasks (granted, with quite a few big twists) and a significant number of AI to avoid in somewhat tight quarters. The second mission is a large, open, lost city style FM with hardly any AI where you basically have to wing it and figure everything out.for yourself and just let the story unfold. Two styles in one. My impression is that TDM could use more of the latter, although it's hard to do unless you have the previous mission to set it up.
  16. Strange as it sounds, I actually think most diehard Thief fans who are still playing the game don't play for the stealth challenge at all. I think most play for the exploration and puzzle solving aspects of Thief FMs. This is why the majority have not latched on to TDM yet, it's one or two steps higher on the stealth difficulty curve and they don't enjoy it. Kind of a strange scenario for the the title that started stealth gaming, but I think it's true.
  17. What version are you using? Should work on anything newer than Win 98. Did you install using Tafferpatcher and then the new 1.19 patch? Thanks Springheel, that's the kind of specifics I was looking for. I know I've seen Thief AI do #2, 3, and 4, but I'm pretty sure they were done by a custom script and not the default AI. I guess #6 as well, usually a Bystander warning a guard if they see the player.
  18. Thief gameplay has not really been touched much, the patch is mostly about getting Thief to work properly on modern hardware, and from an editing standpoint, extenidng/expanding some of the old limitations within dromed that kept FM authors handcuffed. Future Thief FMs will likely be greatly improved in the graphics department. Re: TDM AI though - this could be a opening a huge can of worms, but is TDM AI exceedingly more sophisticated than Thief AI? Tbh, I never really noticed anything drastic while playing both. And since TDM is a mod, I assume that most of it was just modeled after Thief AI. Am I wrong, or missing something here? Or, 7upman, are you mainly referring to game difficulty when you say AI?
  19. You can also manually detach from ladders when halfway up. But yeah, the patch improves multiple things performance-wise, no downside to it. If you're playing Thief in any form use it - it's free. No reason not to.
  20. Yeah, the title is deceiving I realize, it was posted in error by Sensut. I believe it's really jermi's t2water mod, which has been available for a couple of years, and is optionally installed by tafferpatcher. Edit: here's the link.
  21. New T2 water? Are you referring to this? If so, that's nothing to do with 1.19.
  22. It's not the criticism, it's the method. Calling something "abysmal" or "sad" and saying "Yuck, no thanks" isn't going to exactly motivate a new mapper to get right back to it. How about some constructive criticism and/or some helpful suggestions on how things could be improved? There's some of that, but there should be more from such an experienced mapper, as opposed to insults.
  23. Yeah, there's no need for DDFix anymore. Screen resolution is set in-game now. There's also a built-in FM loader (I'm sure you guys are familiar with that concept )
  24. Am I the only one who finds these things annoying? Guys like Fenn and PewDiePie seem to have a cult following, but I have a hard time lasting more than 30 seconds with their constant jabbering, screaming, cracking awful jokes and laughing during a basic walkthrough. So irritating and at least IMO, not remotely funny. If I ever do one of these, it will be with minimal narration.
