  1. No. No, really, maybe we can also do a thread about video games in general. In this thread, i meant PC only. TBH, i wouldn't want to include any C64 or Amiga game into my top 10 anyway, i vastly prefer everything which came after that.
  2. I also think that 4000-5000 gold loot in some missions is pretty excessive. I mean, the Thief protagonist could happily spent his life retiring, after 3 or 4 of such jobs.
  3. "She"? In most missions i played, it was a "he". Apart from that, i don't really think it's worth discussing that. Gameplay decision. Just like it's a gameplay decision that guards can distinguish between friendly and enemy footsteps. Or that you have magic, and undead monsters. And so on.
  4. Not specific to short missions, but, i always thought that the whole pagan thing is way too under represented in TDM. I'm aware that there aren't many assets available, but, i found the pagans to be one of the most interesting factions, and i loved the forest (like) levels in Thief 2 and 3. Wished there was more of that in TDM. At least as a theme. Some missions have a bit of a pagan side theme, but, there's no FM i'm aware of which really features the pagan stuff.
  5. I never really bothered with Wine, because it's a pain for me to make stuff work which doesn't work natively, but, ok... as long as no copy protection is involved that may be right. Let's just say it is nothing for the typical gamer, who just wants to game.
  6. I don't know which games you play, but... not sure if that IS even a decision for most gamers. About 1% of games are available for Linux. Which makes sense, considering its market share, especially on the gaming market.
  7. I understand what you mean. It's definitely cheesy, but, hey, it's a cheesy game.
  8. If i had to guess then i would say that they want to sell you russian flair and atmosphere, and thought it'd be a good idea to transmit that through a russian accent. Same thing with Chekov in Star Trek.
  9. It could be much easier: Most Russians just can't speak English properly. No offense intended to anyone, it's just what i have experienced on the net. There are very few who speak good English really. Fair enough, i have no idea whether or not you learn English on school in Russia, or if it is optional, or something.
  10. I already liked that in STALKER. Why not? The Nords also have an accent in Skyrim.
  11. Cyberpunk 2077 would probably be more my style, if they wouldn't aestheticize the style in such a "punky" and "cool" way. Lacks a bit of seriousness, TBH. And, it looks too much like a Bladerunner movie.
  12. Ah... i didn't read the price requirement. Fair enough then. I'd think a Android tablet is your bet bet then indeed. I'd get a Samsung as well.
  13. I know that they never were cheap, but, MS will be releasing a cheaper, iPad style model. Not sure what you mean with Windows 10 being not properly optmized for tablet. It has a tablet mode, but, if you mean that the applications wouldn't be optimized for touch, yes, true. But, then, Android will only run Android apps, and a Surface will run real Windows desktop applications. And, you will be receiving upgrades, unlike Android, where you're stuck with your version of Android 1 1/2 years after the tablet was released.
  14. Maybe wait for the next Surface entry level tablet. Should be available for about 400 €, and, will surely feature nice hardware.
  15. On which tablet, specifically? I'd never get a non-Windows tablet. With an Android tablet, you get 1 1/2 years of updates, max. With an iPad, you're bond to Apple, their app store, and their way of doing things. Won't comment on Linux, especially in a context where stability, and bugs are a concern. Even the most popular distros ALWAYS had sever bugs, when i had Linux installed on my computers. I gave up on it a couple of years ago. Can't be arsed to mess with bugs, and fix errors non stop. I'm a computer user, not an administrator. Also, it's always a matter of whether Linux supports the hardware or not. The more exotic the hardware, the less likely it will run Linux. And, the more likely bugs will never be fixed.
  16. TBH, i'd get a portable laptop too. You can already get a Lenovo 320S 14" for about 400 €, which is a pretty decent device, according to tests, and, you'd have a battery time of 8-10 depending on what you do as well. But, don't take it from me, i'd always prefer a laptop over a tablet.
  17. True. Again though, i doubt that TDM would be immediately overrun by people, when it is released on Steam. The way i heard of this mod is via the most popular German games magazine (i believe), and, i'd imagine that brought much more publicity. Also, why feel obliged to immediately provide support? There's a (good) wiki, which could be pointed too, and there are enough people here who also could help with basic issues. Like, for example, the one with AA and the soft shadows.
  18. I think the main point where this mod can benefit from having more people play it is that there will be more people creating missions for it. Don't expect wonders though, even if the mod would be released on Steam today, there wouldn't be thousands of new users flooding the forums. Still, there's a chance the one or the other would do a mission. And, for the support thing: Isn't it enough to read the 2.06 issues thread to find your way around the obvious issues like the AA/soft shadow thing? No need for everyone to ask the same question over and over again. Maybe a sticky would also help.
  19. Ok. I think that is vastly opposing any kind of community growth though. After all, it would be out of your guys' hand then, in which way the mod or community develops then. So, it probably really would be best if Steam wouldn't be available on Steam, GOG, or any other site which might put more attention to this game.
  20. Is it really like that? I mean, there are so many free games on Steam, which i can't imagine to be properly organized like that… the latest i could think of: gRally and Teeworlds. And, Teeworlds is even open source. Either they gave a damn about Steam's guidelines/rules, or, it really doesn't have to be THAT proper.
  21. I know that i won't win a popularity contest with this post, but... when you go green on Steam in 2 years, you don't have to go Steam at all. Seriously, that's not too late, that's MUCH too late. People are graphic whores these days, and TDM is not getting any prettier with the time. The next point to consider is that pure stealth games aren't exactly very popular these days, and, i see popularity of those also heading south. Frankly, my opinion, FWIW, if you can't release TDM on Steam in the next half year or so, forget it. It's pointless. Should have been on Steam right from the start anyway, if anything. Just my 2c. Do and think whatever you like about it. I don't see a point in getting TDM on Steam anymore. And, i don't blame anyone here either. Obviously, the license was the biggest issue here.
  22. I didn't mean that they completely open source'd it, i meant that they provide it for indie developers, people starting out, or even advanced developers. Same with their programming languages. Basically, what i meant is that i don't see a reason to suspect anything developers would have to "fear", because, as a operating system vendor, they vastly benefit from as many developers as possible. Hope that was more clear than my former post.
  23. So, Microsoft buys it, you have no idea what they gonna do with it, and you already proclaim it is time to move on from Github? Man, just relax, and wait what they'll do with it. Microsoft gives away Visual Studio, they give away their programming languages, and they also work with, and support Open Source software. There is absolutely no guarantee that they do any BS with Github. I really wished people would be less agitated and paranoid these days.
