  1. Let's face it: Steam may be an annoyance to some, but it's still superior to a CD/DVD copy protection that prevents us from even *installing* the game, let alone running it. There are numerous examples for developers who had to remove said copy protection shortly after release, because it harmed honest buyers. Sure, if you activate the game via Steam, a re-sell is practically impossible (unless you create an account for every game you buy), but actually playing the game is quite comfortable. Congratulation for buying a Llano! I do hope that Skyrim will go the Anno way to scale well with many cores. This would alleviate the traditional AMD weakness a bit, I suppose.
  2. I just hope they won't be having just 5 vocal actors in Skyrim, as was the case with Oblivion. Really, hearing the same 3 male and 2 female voices over and over in the most different roles totally sucked. I expect(ed) better from a multi-million dollar project with several hundred ppl working on.

  4. Awesome screenshot, Xcen. Hope the actual FM will be on par. In that case, it will be more than worth the wait.
  5. I switched back to the white skin. It's infinitely better suited to reading. The old skin made me think something's wrong with my monitor.
  6. After finishing Book 1, I can say that I liked the TV adaptation infinitely better. It has much much more depth and shows many of the characters in a different light. I don't want to spoil anything, but the changes of the Cersei character alone improved the book a lot . There are many other things that in my opinion improved the story, and anming them all would result in massive spoilering. But I'm interested, does anyone who read the book and watched the show agree or disagree with me?
  7. In the main menu, click ... crap, I just realized that in my German version, the main menu options are called differently. Anyway, click the right-most item (should be Help or "?") and select About Opera. There you'll have the links to your Bookmark file, among others. This is essential when migrating to a new install. GL & HF!
  8. AlumINIUMhaste: Nope, that's got nothing to do with Opera. I have no issues displaying the forum in Opera correctly. Works like a charm, actually. I have no idea... well, actually I have. I had a similar problem some time ago. Only a re-install of Opera helped. Fidcal, this might help you, too, unless you already tried that.
  9. Guys, "Old Friends" is on hold currently. The other FM is in the works for some weeks already and is showing awesome progress. Story is fixed too, just waiting for the achitecture to be completed. Don't worry, you'll get your fix.
  10. Modetwo, my browser (Opera) doesn't show the pics Johannes posted in his thread. All the pics posted in other threads are shown properly. Can you pls look into this? EDIT: Also, the forum is terribly slow atm. Don't know if other users have the same issue.
  11. EVE Online has this too. They have an entire section on their website with short stories from the EVE universe. Always a good read.
  12. Spring, I just finished the mission. Not much to say except Excellent in every regard. However, the city was so huge that it could have used some more stuff to explore. Open windows and the like. I terribly missed the rope arrows. While I'm aware that roaming around tends to put finishing the objectives on hold, I immensely enjoy FMs that let the player explore freely. But this is complaining on a very high level, so pls disregard anything I'm saying.
  13. I agree that the current skin is too bright. But anyway, the upgrade is long overdue. For example, I alsway had problems (in Opera9 to correctly format paragraphs. The old SW either made the spaces between the paragraphs either too big or too small. I'm glad to see that this is not an issue anymore. See?
  14. Say, is the 5.1/7.1 simulation good enough to compare to real 5.1 sound? I have the SpeedLink Medusa 5.1 headset connected to a Creative Audigy ZS 7.1. I consider the 3D sound as very good, but since my headset is falling apart (it's around 10 years old, if I'm counting right), I'm looking for a new one. So far, most headsets don#t offer true 5.1 anymore, most simulate the 3D sound. So my question is: Has anyone of you had experience with true and simulated 3D sound? If so, is the simulated variety on par with the true one?

    Forums down

Is that for sure? I (and to my knowledge, Bikerdude too) have experienced connection errors when trying to reach the forum. But maybe the issue is on our provider's side.
  16. Johannes, we just found our Farrell for "Alte Freunde", eh?
  17. One word: Unreal. Just remember this stunning beauty. Gaphically, it was ahead of ANYthing at the time. I remember that for T2, I dreamed of Unreal graphics and the T1 sound system. Well, we both know what came out of that.

  18. That's the story. I'm talking purely about the technical side. There are many games of the past that shine story-wise - and only there (from today's point of view).

Also, shame on the programmer of the T engine. Just look how many other games can still be modded and brought to excellence. Thief? I don't think to. 1024 poly limit FTW!

  19. No, but it helps. And the AI are close to being 2D. I mean, look at their *faces*! Consider the fact that swords are glued to the guards' hands! No, the only thing that was really good in T1/2 is the sound. Also, Crysis is nowhere near to what it was announced as, with regards to the story. Now it's ultra-right wing American crap.

  20. hahahaha, this is ridiculous. I have played Populous when it was fresh out. I have played Wolfenstein before it was forbidden in Germany. Any my first RPG was Ultima 6, back in the day. And even then I hated 2D sprites with all my heart. 3D hi poly FTW! XD That said, I despise Crysis and Modern Warfare 2.

  21. You won't find Thief here, as it never gave me what I craved: Believable graphics. Seriously, AI made out of a dozen polygons? Get real!

    Rage

Rage is optimized for consoles, as J.C. himself pointed out (as a mistake). And since the RAM on consoles is not worth mentioning (on XboX 360, it's 512 MB DDR3 Unified for both CPU and GPU), I can readily imagine how those rumors come to life.
  23. I don't see it. Your politeness, I mean. Which must be why you're held in so high esteem throughout the community.

    Rage

And, does it work as intended?
