  1. Having effectively no guaranteed visual clues as to which items will be frobbable. I believe I came across a candle that looked like 100s of other candles I've seen that I was not able to frob and extinguish recently. Kind of irritating to tell the truth. Which leads me to my second thing-I-don't-love... Possibly what happened above was that I just couldn't get the damned thing to frob because there was so much other frobbable (but unmoveable) stuff around it that I couldn't get it highlighted. How to frob the slightest thing in a polyglob(?) of frobbables?! I'm actually getting pretty good at plucking those arrows from quivers now, but still... Also related to all of this (may be just a variation/reiteration of the first theme here)? Scanning bookshelves full hoping to catch the one that highlights and knowing full well it's easy to miss, and knowing even more full well there is probably nothing there... It'd be nice to have some consensus on what a readable book might look like, even if the difference is so slight it still takes a pretty good scanning of bookshelves, just not as much as now. Maybe this is already a convention, but I'd really appreciate it if it was moreso. ... More to come, maybe, from me. And maybe others have certain pet-peeves/ideas?
  2. There have obviously been many excellent improvements in TDM compared to Thief, so this is not meant as a criticism of TDM in particular but maybe a further list of things that hopefully can be improved somehow.
  3. Finished! First and foremost, I say these are the most beautiful missions yet. There has been some excellent work in other missions, but over all, and over a lot these were lush, luscious and, I think, used heaps of great textures and models... Those green stones, those stained woods, stained glasses, those detailed ceramics, those... on-and-on-and-on... almost everything was enough to inspire me to hit F12 (screenshot)! Just excellent! For me, the story was excellent too, but I personally could have used a lot more readables. It's an individual preference, I know. Some don't like them so much, and, so probably best to keep it "underwhelming" (<-not meant in a negative way) in that respect. In the same vein I don't like shall we say "horror" elements and was happy to not have an overwhelming amount of that! Just a taste or more if you want... So nice balance! A couple of notes to add to the "problems" I documented in my last post: It seemed as if I was missing the first line of each briefing text as it flashed something on screen and then went to what I assume was the next bit of text. This happened on each mission. Did others experience this? Anyway thanks so much, I think you all did a really great job showing off the best aspects of TDM. Beautiful gorgeous weird wild wacky fun stuff!
  4. AES was created specifically to put (discredited) DES behind us. I cannot believe anyone is selling DES stuff. Very weird. But then chaos of the marketplace is always, well, demonstrating what a mess it is... Yes, though, put it to you parents that simply. That the encryption being used with these adapters is far less secure than current ( XD ) standards used by WLANs; AND if there is any set of wires in the world that are exposed to more people than the power grid? You let me know...
  5. Sorry if I'm going over stuff that has been raised, I'm trying to stay unspoiled. Please someone who might be able to comment (with just a hint if possible, or an outright explanation if necessary), PM me? Here are a few problems I've had (mission 2)
  6. Well, thanks, LEGION. I've played some more and haven't had any more BSODs*; and I am through mission 2 except... *Lots of less severe crashing though. And just a hint of the old stutters. Saves are getting to around 85MB. I've also documented (screensaved) some interesting things related to what I once though might be the cause of the stutters - physics settling being unsettling... some definite instances of "perpetual motion" some astounding!, amazing!, sensational!, side-show, big-top, lollapalooza examples!
  7. Interesting question, young apprentice...
  8. Thanks for that info, MD. I'll go back in. I don't mind a CTD or even a series of CTDs; but a BSOD is something I will not play around with; I got other tings doin tings, diskee tings, and don't need no corruptions.
  9. Okay, I'm staying the heck out of the various NHAT threads, keeping my head low! Only daring to even glance about in here! I will not be spoiled by bespoilment! Anyway, I got through politics fine -- no crashes (well some, but nothing irritating)... But now, quite early on, I've crashed quite heavily in anoott... so heavily last time (BSOD, which is a first for TDM -- and extreme, I needn't say). I shan't go back until I find out what others are experiencing. Experiencing as far as crashes go, that is. Anyone have anything that ugly (BSOD)? Thanks. ETA: Something obviously amiss? : While the politics saves climbed to ~55MB, these anoott started at ~73MB... ETA some more: BTW, politics was gorgeous! I see you working XD
  10. I hope... Y'all take your time. I'd much rather wait another month, than play a series of hours only to find out that an overhaul is necessary... and we must all go back and play from the get-go. Nothing that drastic will happen, I'm sure; but, still, I'll weigh in on the "take your time" side, just now. If need be, need be. Oh, and: HB,MD!
  11. Of course that's great news! I was just sorta saying that, even though I am maybe one of the more impatient players, I would be happy to wait another week(!) even if it need be... and I really expected... need be This is going to be a showcase piece I think and it would be excellent to see it gather 25-to-1 in the "oh wow awesome!" to "I had this crash, glitch, bit of gameplaybreakdown" dept. Looking forward to it; I shan't call of the caterer!
  12. Nice find, grayman. Seems like this and the other brush-stacking with no offset could be significant.
  13. I'll be surprised if it gets released on schedule. ... and to tell the truth a little wary... because release dates are not meant to be met... I know the beta-testing was already 90% before the beta testing began(?) but... I 'd rather the beta-testing was beta-tested right proper... this is a big big boy of a mission (campaign even!)... and it needs plenty of outside-the-loop beta-testing, you'd think. Wot?
  14. Or if a kid gets ahold of this mod and it inspires him to kill everyone in his immediate vicinity while listening to the soundtrack to the original KQ? There could be "far-reaching" "consequences and repercussions". C'mon. This is a dick move by a bunch of petty cretins.
  15. Beg to disagree. As a matter of fact I know this is not the case. Patently. Sorry. While there may be a lot of overlap, there is certainly not a complete overlap in all 40. There is strength in numbers. What is the case is that using just 1 engine is riskier than using multiple engines. Of course, as with anything, you must be able to intelligently analyze the analysis and consider all the things (including those that you mention) relevant. Anyway, I appreciate your responses but I must disagree with this "to a large extent useless" notion.
  16. I think this bit about you being a lazy arse is the silliest thing I've read on here. I hope the notion that this stutter-stuff is not fixable until the SC is released not true. I will take the opposite thumb-sucker POV and assume that there is some (or a couple or few) watershed tweaking that'll clear things hugely. Something/s is/are accumulating and can be released! Or something to that effect...
  17. Yes, impressive, both. And another example of the power of DR.
  18. That all makes sense, for sure, Serpentine. But, as I say I hadn't experienced VT being victimized before yesterday. It's also possible that they really have gotten enough notice now that it's 'legitimate' traffic (pssst, mostly these sites are used 'legitimately' by those who download pirated/cracked/pitchy-patchy stuff....). Hopefully they will endure a while longer before being ruined by all the things that eventually ruin everything: capitalists and lumpen-fools. Some rudimentary anti-bot stuff for a while, I guess. But no actual reports of this or that that anyone has heard? Or suggested alternatives that have some defenses in place? (as long as I made this thread and have rambled on like this...)
  19. Sorry, sometimes I assume that everyone knows what I'm talking about (and sometimes I assume that not many know what I'm talking about -- I keep myself out-of-the-loop). Used to happen with Google, still happens with Wikip as far as assuming people know what these things are... Anyway there is a service that allows you to upload a file and it'll scan it with ~40 different virus detection engines, it's called VirusTotal. There are a few of these (if not many -- again, out-of-the-loop) now. Anyway, up until yesterday, I might have expected to get placed in a queue of say 5, 6 or 7 if things were busy at VirusTotal to wait for my file to get processed. Yesterday all of a sudden I was looking at queue-position 12,131 with an estimated wait-time of ~2134 minutes! I aborted and re-upped, only to find that it wasn't a fluke or glitch. Well, my immediate problem is passed, because one of the 12,131 in line ahead of me was the file I was wanting to have analyzed, so upon a 3rd try I got "this file has been scanned" which allows me to just see the results immediately.
  20. Just today I'm finding the queues are over ten-thousand deep, resulting in thirty-plus hour wait times. Anyone read any report on this anywhere?
