  1. The bugtracker... Oh yeah, that... I know. Where and what is it? Sorry, I'm new here.
  2. While we're on the subject of clues... I was thinking that I at some point want to add a rather extensive readable with a couple of clues in it. And by clues I mean things you'd have to ponder a bit. But the player wouldn't actually know on which pages the clues are written at first, because that is revealed through other discoveries. So, is it possible to somehow visually bookmark certain pages of a readable once a criteria is met?
  3. Perhaps there is a conflicting definition of "clue" here. It doesen't have to be a big flashing neon sign saying "Frob Me".
  4. Cool. Since loss_closed/open controls the sound travelling to the AI, all that remains is to somehow adjust the sounds that reaches the player. And I can't see why that should involve complex real world physics algorithms or anything like that. The player is not an AI. It's just controlling the volume level of a speaker or entity through a set of conditions like is the door open or closed. Or am I completely out in the fields here, I could be- seems to happen a lot. @Fidcal: Yeah. I know.
  5. Go for it! Sounds like a nice optional feature to have. I mean, a readable needs to be just as carefully crafted as the rest of the mission. A lot of readables just aren't written very well and I tend to skip reading them if they don't catch my attention in the first paragraph.
  6. Woke up in the middle of the night and thought I had a brilliant, just brilliant idea. I was convinced I'd get a mention in the history books, a statue in the main square, key to the city- you know, the lot. Wait for it... No-clipping, nodraw textured, func static brushes with visportals carefully and cunningly vedged between them. No, no go.
  7. You can't control the volume level of certain soundsources through the open/closed state of a door? ADDITION: Don't mean question anyones authority, it just sounds incredible that it is not a relatively easy soltution. And if it is not then I regard it as a monumental shortcoming, especially for a game of this nature. Is it the engine itself, or a not yet implemented function of DR? I really hope it's the latter.
  8. This bothers me too much for comfort. You say there is no EASY way... what is the hard way? It's either that or my mission needs a complete redesign.
  9. I've followed the wiki on how to create doors, but whatever value I add to the loss_closed property makes no difference whatsoever. It's a sliding door of stone (made from a brush) so I'd like it to block out a fair deal.
  10. prefabs.xd definitely needs to be present. Attached a screenshot. EDIT: Sorry, I haven't tested if it has to be prefabs.xd or if any other file will do. EDIT 2: This might be far fetched, but it occured to me that the crash upon click may be a red herring, perhaps it crashes on an auto-save and I just happened to click somewhere... No, maybe not. Sounded good in my head, though. But then a lot of things do.
  11. Dark Radiant 1.4.0 for x86 I was adviced earlier in this thread to manually create a darkmod/xdata directory if I wanted to edit readables without issues. A procedure I may well have misunderstood- I admit, but now I get the impression that it's not needed. Perhaps creating an empty xdata folder caused the problem if it's not necessary in the first place. EDIT: Oh, I should add that I've the Steam version of Doom3, but the wiki says it's compatible with TDM. Don't remember if DR is mentioned, but I guess that wouldn't matter. EDIT 2: I just tried to remove the contents of darkmod/xdata edit a new readable and the crashes returned. So, that's obviously the problem on my end at least.
  12. I would think so as I've had no crashes since copying the file over. But, of course, one can't be absolutely sure.
  13. Ah... I had no prefabs.xd file in that folder. I manually created that directory. I copied it over, it works fine now. Thanks.
  14. Sorry. I was a little unclear. It's not about renaming readables. It's about saving new ones. And I can't solve this, DR continues to crash.
  15. I thought this was about TDM. I read "creating interest" and "drawing in new players". If that's true then I vote yes. If it's about posting anything then no, that's Off-Topic. If there's a thread named "TDM screenshots" then I think I would rather click on that to see what's going on than dig through a WIP thread. The poll is a little unclear. Screenshot: type screenshot followed by desired resolution (eg. screenshot 1920 1080)
  16. Categories, labels and -isms, what would we do without them? Just get along... nah!
  17. One layer for each prefab? I added a jewel box, but soon discovered that I coudn't deselect it without losing the ability to move the whole shebang. And trying to select everything again is a bit of a pain. DR crashes when I try to save after renaming, sometimes even as soon as I click the namefield.
  18. How can I set up a Parent/child relationship of a prefab? I can only select individual pieces. CAPTAINS LOG SUPPLEMENTAL: Dark Radiant consistently crash whenever I try to save a readable. I've created an xdata folder under darkmod.

    I can help

Yes, I don't have a "popper-stopper" at the moment. I'll see what I can do with boosting the volume. I just did this as learning experience really and if it happened to be good enough then great. I just didn't know if these lines are standard and expected to be part of a voice set as a minimum. I've written a few lines myself that might be suitable, and I'll wait for your script and try again. EDIT: Need a little more time to tweak the volume apparently. Here's a mission start sound if someone's interested: http://oceanarts.net/Downloads/Special/tdm/audio/player_start_01.mp3
  20. I'm thinking that a secret (or its whereabouts) might be referred to in clues given throughout a mission, so that only the most observant thief can pick it up. Of course you may stumble upon it by pure luck, but then without knowing its story. But others might see it differently, and not regard this as much a secret as a golden ring underneath a rock.
  21. Um... What would the criteria be for a secret to really be a secret, in your opinion? I mean for the player to really feel that they've discovered something hidden.

    Vista and TDM?

Works fine on my 32-bit Vista setup. Got the steam version, though.
  23. Sorry. Here's an all time favourite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVari01DAIs
  24. I really, really, really like Arena. Their music is extremely soothing for both soul and intellect.
