New dentist tried to scam me by claiming I need EIGHT fillings. Old dentist says none are needed after viewing same x-rays. If new one had said only 2, I would have just believed him...

That's the thing about scammers. They tend to be too greedy, and it frequently gives them away. If they just cheat you a little bit, you probably won't catch on. Some large companies are quite good at this, for example selling you stuff and then taking away features or shortening support periods after you buy it.
