  1. Very nice detail. I think I never saw this before in a mission? Though, first I feared it is some kind of bug.
  2. Calm down, for my understanding the problem is completely different. I´m no expert here. I don´t have the lines in S-video or HDMI-mode. And on my PS3 I never saw this tearing and I never saw it in other PC-games. So I only see it in TDM, so sure I thought it could be the mod, wouldn´t you? Sure not, but I did and I´m not convinced that it is my TV.
  3. Years ago I read that 15 FPS is the lowest border for getting smooth (in German we say 'liquid') gameplay. I played that mission without the FPS-counter and performance was never bad. In benchmark I got 59FPS with V-sync, not 60!
  4. But I already bought the expensive one! ... Just kidding. Ah, dammit. That are the reasons why I wanted a console, on a PC there is always something wrong. Hmm, this looks interesting, could be an improvement, right? That price I can afford. Should I buy it? I´ll do everything you say, almost! And my actual cables are three meters, don´t need longer anyway. But the DVI-cable is five meters. That´s too long, considering the 3-meter-cables, right? Maybe I´ll try it tomorrow. And my TV is not the best. On TV-programs I got after five minutes white diagonal stripes over the screen. The better TV of my girlfriend doesn´t have this stripes, so it is my TV that causes it. I guess the price was 700€, not sure because I paid 50€ every month and that´s two years ago. Doesn´t anyone else have this too? Because it is not constant let´s me think it maybe is a mod-problem. Finally tonight I´ll play Doom3 with Denton´s HDR-mod, but I don´t think I´ll see it there, because of the small hallways and good visportals. I´ll see...
  5. Yes, I have a cheap HDMI-cable (10 €). I guess I need one with gold endings, what should I pay at most? Or what should I look for? edit: That´s too much! People who buy that, what do they use it for? I also have HDMI (19 pins) to DVI-D (24+1)-cable. But I guess HDMI to HDMI gives better quality, right? I´ll test now the one that came with my PS3... The PS3-cable makes no difference. It has gold endings and the whole cable is thicker.
  6. Tonight I played Lord Dufford´s and got the tearing on two spots were lamps were. When I moved to the opposite direction there was no tearing. The tearing was like one mis-placed broad line and was visible even on slow movement. One spot was in Lord Chasz´s room by the lamp left of the entrance door, where the notes are, if you want to know.
  7. Where are the sewers? I found the sewer house and clicked both levers. Than I lockpicked the nearby door to get to the stables and was in... Yeah, all the negatives were pointed out before. I don´t like missions, where I am almost alone. The ambient light was annoying, cause it was sometimes so dark and on other places there it seemed to be too bright in the shadows, but mostly it´s dark. The readables so far are fun to read. Well, that one book in the guard quarters, next time you could split the text to more books around the rooms. I was too stoopid to read the first clue, but I saw explanation here in the thread. But it´s morning here so I have to wait for the night again. I really hope for an updated version, if this is really meant to be the start of a campaign. It seems to be the weakest mission I played so far, but the story motivates me to go on... And I really would like to know what that is there above the lamp: It´s not wood around it so it´s not some kind of protection against a fire?
  8. I´ll appreciate Sotha´s style, because most of the time I just forget what I have with me, or maybe I´m too lazy to use tools, I don´t know. I had this problem in Thief too. And Sotha is again right when it comes to the undead: when encountering them, you´ll use everything you have, well, almost, to get rid of them.
  9. Very funny, that Miracle Whip spot. (well, not really) Here in Germany they haven´t dared to make ads like that one, until now at least. I can´t stand ads. Because of them I nearly don´t watch TV anymore. They´re annoying and create antipathy for the product/manufacturer, but it´s still working ´cause your mind gets to know them and you can´t erase it.
  10. Each moral compass should be adjusted by everyone themselves and what you really belief in and want from others, nothing else. Could you both please define what you mean when talking about Postmodernism? Do you mean just the actual state of society?

Are you sure that this wasn´t again a social experiment from you? As I first read your 'intro' I thought so, but I hold my thoughts back. But now I have to ask this.
  12. Tis was a great and really beautiful mission. If I could rate this I would give Appearance a 'near perfect'! All those details and things to frob and look at. I loved the story/readables too. But that´s it, nothing else bothered me. No crashes too, and I saved often. The gameplay was damn good. Not too hard, but everything else than easy. Never before I crouched so much. The loot-positioning was very nice and believable. Overall this mission is one of the best actually because there is so much in it. I even saw some pots I never saw before. Was very nice to have almost everything frobable. That leads me to a question: Is the overall-performance related to the amount of frobalbe objects? Because I wondered why some objects weren´t frobable.
  13. I always thought 'ghosting' means that no one sees you. And if there is something wrong, but no Thief has been seen, then there must be a ghost around here. -> should resulting in guards starting to panic and finally they start to scream and run away... (This is not sth. I´d like to be implemented!!)
  14. It´s not there (it seems), so I´ll add it... I don´t see a search-option to be sure, Tels. Ok, found the search-function down there.

Maybe starting ignoring this thread should stop the alienating process and slowly it will fade. But seriously, it´s up to you. From what I read there is not much wrong and as your wife does know a lot about children you should listen to her and watching the child´s behavior. If there maybe will be sth. wrong in the future, can the Youth Welfare Office be trusted?
  16. It´s already available (via console) and working most of the time. I use it very often and I don´t wanna lose it again! It´s great!
  17. Hmmm, tasty!! I liked the cat very much, in German: Grinsekatze. @Nils Bohr: I don´t know what´s the case on Classic Doom, but on my 'More Blood'-mod I was able to copy the changed stuff into the main pk4´s, the same goes for the model-patch. So when I start Denton´s HDR-mod I have the other mods implemented too. But I fear that Classic-Doom is more than just some pk4´s so that means it´s more complicated to put all together...
  18. Yeah, I know, but thanks anyway. Also, as for the 'g_fov'-setting, you need to copy the autoexec in every FM-folder, too! This is for everything that is not in the Doomconfig.
  19. Yeah, it was Chalice(Thief´s Den II). Though, there was a guard standing next to the crown (And because of that he most likely should see when the player is substituting the crown). I would´ve liked more that he is walking on patrol and watches at the crown when he ends the route. This was the case in Crown of Penitence where a guard made alert, when a big loot-item under a flare was stolen. That was really good. So, it´s already possible and was made. As always, it´s just mappers choice. And I highly appreciate what Springheel and Tels said about guards noticing doors as they were opened right next to them. I hope you can achieve this in near future. That let´s me ask again about the 'tdm_door_control'-thing that allows the player to slowly open a door in stealth-mode(with the mouse-movement). Actually it´s not working on every door. Is the team still working on this feature? A less loud door-sound for this would be great, too.
  20. @Orbweaver: It´s not helping. The 'swap_interval'-setting was already at 1. I typed it in anyway and after the vid_restart the tearing was still there. But thanks, anyway. for info: I have the tearing on every start, no matter if I install another FM or the FM is already installed. Switching my TV-HD-mode didn´t helped too. (that was my idea, though) Now this is really strange: I just made my res-switching so I got no tearing. Then I wanted to turn V-sync off and did so in TDM and I also set my Nvidia-settings to 'Force off' and then I started TDM and I got no tearing at all. The Swap_Interval setting was on zero!! I don´t get it. Then I started Thief and the tearing there was barely visible. So it´s not really a V-sync problem, isn´t it? Remember, the tearing I got in TDM is only in wide areas. In rooms I only got it then the door was open. As I closed the door the tearing was gone and then I opened the door again the tearing was back again!!! And it was kind of a big tearing, I guess more noticeable than V-sync-tearing. But I wasn´t able to make a screenshot of it. @Aida: I deleted all the stuff under 'confirm Quit' in my main Doomconfig. But after I started TDM all the stuff was back in there. What did you do? Also it´s not possible to add stuff in the Doomconfig that is not there in the first place. (Like 'g_fov' f.e.) And that switching between Fullscreen and Window-mode I never had. Are you both using widescreen-resolutions?
  21. I don´t think it´s an overheating issue. Because I have it right after the reboot or when I started the next day and always on the same spots. The V-sync wasn´t simply activated in the widescreen-resolutions. And now I got rid of it, I just have to start the game in a different res and then I copy my doomconfig with my custom res back into the folder and it works fine. I could type in the res manually, too, but I´m too lazy for that. Now I´ll play Builder´s Influence so I´ll see if it somehow comes back during the game. I´m usually spending four hours in missions. So if it´s overheating, I´ll see. I hope not, though. Also, I have a software called 'Vtune' that sets a dynamic Fan speed for my GPU. But I never heard the Fan-speed increase. Is it maybe a reason that I use my Phillipps-TV as the screen? It´s connected via HDMI-cabel and the output is in HD-mode. Because of the HD-mode I had to downscale the res 1280x720 to 1216x692, otherwise the picture was too much zoomed in. Actually I haven´t tried to deactivate HD-mode yet...
  22. Well, too bad you didn´t tried to hit only Reply, than you should have hit the +. Oh, just saw that 'Reply' is too far away. But the joke was worth it... As for the picture. First it didn´t worked, so I added a space between the codes.
  23. I´m really an ultimate THIEF-fan. I once even played with a hood blocking my view of everything other than the screen. Though, I bought Doom3 as it came out because I very like Demons and that stuff and the previews that time really made me think 'Hey, this could be a game made for you'. I don´t remember much, only that it wasn´t the game I thought and it was really short and that I had troubles with the last Boss-fight. Mainly because I wasn´t aware that this is the last boss-fight. As I installed DarkMod in April I always wanted to play Doom3 again, now I have JC Denton´s HDR-mod and another for more blood and the demons should no longer disappear after killing them, models-patch for rounder heads, but still I haven´t played it. I played the beginning now 4 or 5 times, mainly for setting up control for my GamePad. Yes, you heard right, I want to play Doom3 this time with my GamePad. I´ll play on the easiest skill, so I should get along, I hope. I also want to play without the crosshair, well, most of the time, I have a key assigned that toggles the HUD. I don´t like HUD´s. They´re killing immersion. (It doesn´t help if I tell myself it´s a chip implemented in your brain that makes the HUD) I also decreased the walkspeed, hehe. I know what you´re thinking. (Running is the default speed, though) I did some fight-testing at the beginning and it worked fine this way. But tonight I´ll play Builder´s Influence in TDM, that looked much more interesting than Doom3... Speaking of Romero and McGee. I very liked Daikatana and Alice, should play them once more soon... edit: I never played Painkiller, because I didn´t wanted a game without a story. I can´t remember why I thought that, though(I mean why I thought Painkiller had no story). The setting appealed to me. I´ll look into it again...
  24. I tried now the newest drivers and hey, there working again with Doom3. But the tearing is still there. I used all GPU-settings. Only 'Triple Buffering' takes effect, but as I described above, it´s even worse. I´m pretty sure that it is a Mod-problem with open/wide areas. I never saw it in Doom3. My V-sync is working fine in other games and in TDM itself, without in open areas. ... Now I deactivated V-Sync and there is no difference. But as I changed the aspect ratio back to 4:3 it was gone!! So, I have the tearing in 16:9 (which is best for my screen) and 16:10!! I also tested 'r_displayRefresh 60' but that did nothing. I tested several resolutions in 16:9, but only 1216x692 works perfect without borders or cutting borders. (on my TV) Now that´s odd. I set back to my custom width (I play with the same in Doom3 btw) the tearing seems to be gone. ... I started the game now 3 times and the tearing is gone. Can someone explain this to me? I don´t think someone of you used an untearing-spell directly to my system, did you? I started Return to the City and there it wasn´t too, though it seemed to be slower in the beginning wide area. But Builder´s Influence is running perfect. (first I feared of some reverse-effect, but in the alley it is fine, too:)) So, the cure must have been to try several resolutions. Though I had the tearing in the 16:9 res 1280x720 (my actual res is downscaled from this one) that I tried lately. And then I even copied my backup of the doom3config back. But now it´s gone. Really strange, isn´t it? I still can´t believe it. Now I´ll post this and then I make a reboot and try again... edit: As I feared, the tearing was back after reboot. But I can get around it via res-changing. So, it works now. I only have to start the Main menu with another res. Gladly, I don´t have to load a level with another res before changing to my wish-res. After that do the other widescreen-res´s work fine too. On a sidenote: the res-setting is acting strange. As I set 1280x720 the DoomConfig talked about the next higher, 1366x768 that is. As I set in the Menu to this res, actually I then had the 1280-res. I think it´s related to 'r_mode -1'. As I remember I had to set this to '-1' for using my custom width. (1216x692) I think I earned the title 'strange problems Man'!
