  1. Now this https://www.discovermagazine.com/technology/a-desktop-quantum-computer-for-just-usd5-000 In ten years, your PC is like an abakus for us now.
  2. As I say, not recomended to install Windows 11 until its needed. Always are in beta and full of bugs. Stay with Win10 until its not longer supported is the best. I do so.
  3. Ready boost works well in old PC, but yes, unplug itwhen it is working is = BSOD. In current distros there is nothing to learn, it's not so intuitiv as Windows, but enough to use it from the first moment without problems. The mencioned Q4OS is very similar to Windows, diferences only in some file handligs in the explorer and diferent extensions of the files. Secundary things also for an newbee.
  4. I was referring to starting the Laptop (cold boot), entering the PIN, being connected to the network, opening the browser and this forum ~45s. If you has a reduced RAM, you can help a little bit with the ReadyBoost function of Windows.
  5. Well, I don't have exactly a NASA computer either, but a € 350 laptop. Between pressing the power button and trolling in this forum, about 45 seconds pass and the responses from the system are practically instantaneous. Ok, the SSD also contributes. The system must already be really old, so that Win10 does not work (in this case it is better to go directly to Linux anyway.), if even tablets work well with it. Regarding Linux, there is a difference between installing the distro on Windows, with Windows still running in the background or installing it independently on a separate partition, both things are possible, in the second case each OS is independent of the other. It is also the case of using Linux from a Life CD / Pendrive. But yes, Windows 10, especially on computers with limited resources, requires a previous configuration, throwing out all the crap that it brings by default, so that it works fluently as it should.
  6. Not really, but W10 by default loads a lot of apps and services which you don't need, but use a lot of RAM (hibernation, file index the worst). But yes, in very old sistems it's better to use Linux. Q4OS is a good choice for Windows user, with an UI very similar to W7 and it has a own installer, so you don't need to make an CD/Pendrive with an ISO, You can download the setup and run it like any other app and select if you use only the Distro or in dualboot with Windows.
  7. Why a mistake? W10 is a lot better than W7 in every aspect, faster, more secure and more estable. There also a lot of apps with which you can tweak Windows to your needs and change it to a SO which respect and protect your privacy. For example from MS itself https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys and https://modzero.github.io/fix-windows-privacy/ You can create GodMode to access all the possible settings in W10, you only need to create a folder and name it GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} Another advantage of W10 apart from switch to Dark mode Windows 10 brings by default the Windows Subsystem for Linux, a subsystem that, thanks to the Hyper-V hypervisor, allows us to run any distro, directly on the operating system. Include you'll find several distros in the MS Store.
  8. Hit an opponent 100 times in 1 second
  9. I imagine that it would not be so difficult to automate a backup every x time, many editors and office suites include this capability. There are also some apps which can do this, here are some of them: https://www.duplicati.com (FOSS) http://www.ukrebs-software.de (Freeware) https://github.com/axkibe/lsyncd (FOSS)
  10. Maybe it requires one of these pop-ups with a skull and 'Are you really sure?', but not like in Windows, where there is only 'OK' as the only option
  11. Yes, the only manner to avoid this, is to backup frequently the important files., because most times in new systems, between a deleted file and overwriting with new files it goes quite fast, which in many cases makes a full recovery impossible, especially on SSD. For this reason, having to defragment disks has become quite obsolete in return. Well, as unpleasant as it may be, bad experiences can also be positive for the future, remembering old computer days, where I have also learned in a hardcore way.
  12. That is bad, but certainly you can maybe recover it. If files are deleted, the only thing that happend, is that you delete the first letter of the file in the FAT, that makes that this space is asigned as free. As long as no other files are saved in this space, this deleted file is recoverable, simply by replacing the first letter of it, with which it is restored back to its original folder. For example, if I delete Test.exe, this turns the FAT into _est.exe, which is listed as deleted. There are applications that allow you to access the FAT and list its contents, similar to the file explorer. In these apps, just look for these deleted files and replace this first letter of the name to restore them. It has no more secrets than this. Bad only if the space is occupied with new files, than are is no way to recover. Depending on the SO you use there are several apps which you can use. In Windows I use Glary Utilities, which among others also can recover deleted files.
  13. As a thief it is only logical to open and close the doors slowly and as quietly as possible and not simply drop them into the lock with a cataclang. And yes, the sound is common in doors, cabinets, boxes and desks, although this is the least, it is a sound that should be lower than it usually is. Perhaps to add difficulty to a mission, you can add the squeak of rusty hinges on an old door, which forces you to wait before an eventual guard is far enough away. It is not necessary to record the sound, it is enough simply by listening to the corresponding sound file of any mission.
  14. It's not about making the footsteps and lockpicking inaudible, but it might be enough to reduce the sound that it is audible enough for the player. Many times also the sound of opening or closing a door is so loud that it almost echoes in the building.
  15. Worse on metallic grounds. Yes, a thief don't use normally military boots whith metal rivets on the sole, Not good, if you don't have moose arrows in this moment.

  18. For the necessary case, I always have a Pendrive with some distros at hand (FerenOS (base Ubuntu) and Q4OS ( base Debian, KDE Plasma))
  19. Ok, this thread lends itself a bit to brainstorming. I don't think anyone intends to turn TDM into Postal 2 and make guardians vomit with pissed donuts. As I said before, I would be satisfied with expanding the possibilities of the tools and taking better advantage of the objects in the environment, which in some missions already exists in specific situations. This is, a Garret a little more McGyver, this if it would fit well with the character.
  20. Apart that you have the possibility to make noise everytime, not only with a kick in a door, you will do this in TDM only in situations when making noise isn't a problem and not precisely in a house full of guards. Ussing the micro to include external noise is only possible in a complete quiet room, not when sounds the phone or the doorbell in the moment when you are behind a big spider or elite guard. It is not very healthy and desirable.
  21. 1 We don't going to die because of 0.18º per decade, but it's not the cuestion if we sopport this temperatures, but it's not the same in the environment, 0,18º can be the difference betweenice or not ice in the poles, the difference of the survive of local species, in the directions of ocean flows, the difference ofMethane secure in the permafrost or not. 2 Hurracanes, wildfire and other disaster ever exists, but now everytime with more frequency and with worse conscuences. Like the flood in Germany and Belgium, also existing in the past, but only locally and not over the whole countries like now. 3 The climate emergency is real, because if we don't act now, the problem reaches a point of no return. Saying it's no an emergency is like saying there is no emergency in a building, because there is only one of the rooms in flame. 4 This is the problem, no policy make the changes, until the environment do this by force, but then is to late to do anything. Welcome Mad Max 5The impulse have to part from the "first World" as the principal cause of the climate change, one of us contamine more than 100 familys in the "third World"
  22. A little joke in a coffee shop some years ago It costs some new underwears
  23. As I mentioned earlier, throwing objects can still be a bit more optimized. A normal adult throws a stone at 50-60m, Garret by far at 20m, even as a small child I was better at throwing a ball.
  24. It is not about cheap or expensive products, it is about the incitement to buy things that we do not need, to keep an absurd consumerism afloat. Look around your house and the amount of things that you have that you never use or that are useless. Regarding food, we complain about the massive cattle raising, the greenhouse gases that it causes and the resulting deforestation, but on the other hand, we no longer eat meat and animal products as before 2 or three times a week, but 3 times a day, 7 Days of the week. This apart from encouraging the criticized mass cattle ranching, is not at all healthy for ourselves, the proliferation of obesity, diabetes, rheumatic and coronary diseases show it. Personally, I like a good cutlet or a ham sandwich, but I prefer to eat it once or twice a week, but then of the highest quality, than to do it every day with second-rate or sale products, which in the end I even get more expensive. In other words, it is not about reducing the standard of living, but about consuming what is needed, putting quality before quantity. This even provides more freedom by not depending so much on things, it does not make sense to work more hours than the clock, to be able to have a car bigger than the neighbor, having a burnout at 40, This is not quality of life and neither Liberty.
