  1. Well, I'm quite sure that upcoming AMD's APU Trinity (with next to Bulldozer microarchitecture named Piledriver, 1Q12) will be very successful. It has powerful integrated graphics (up to 30% faster than the Llano's one) and more-less strong x86-cores (up to 20% faster than the Llano's ones). Of course, Intel's Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge have a much more powerful x86-cores, but their integrated graphics is way too weak (2-3 times). So, what would you choose?
  2. The Bulldozer is a server & workstation microarchitecture. This is where the problem is: many weak cores are very good for highly multithreaded software (the server &workstation markets), but the desktop and the mobile ones require strong single thread performance, where the Bulldozer failed. Of course, a higher frequency will partially compensate its poor single thread performance, but has its own price - energy hunger. As for the Fusion concept I'd like to say that it is a nice one, but I'm sure that the OpenCL/DirectCompute infrastructure is not as mature and solid as we'd like to see. So, in order to see a real result of the Fusion, we'd wait for two-three years at least.
  3. Heck, I don't know how exactly to translated these two strings . Hey, who's the author of those, please help us to understand what exactly do they mean: an old keys to lock & sewer or a keys to the old lock and old sewer?
  4. 7upMan: I've already translated these strings and uploaded my version for the DarkFate community (the link is in TDM thread).
  5. Tels, i30817: Hard links were introduced in Windows since Windows XP. I wonder how many TDM gamers have Windows 2K...
  6. Tels: What about a hard link to the DLL/SO instead of a copy? Of course, it's a half measures, but, still, this won't consume HDD space.
  7. Tels: I've heard TDBonko is a Serbian taffer on TTLG...
  8. I'd like to see a large page support. This will get rid TDM of TLB thrashes and make it run more smoothly.
  9. What a beautiful news! Thank you, Mr. John Carmack .
  10. 7upMan: Am I get you right: has someone experimented with renaming/copying/hardlinking of Doom3.exe? Did this work? If it so, then we should convince greebo to use this method in tdmlauncher.
  11. If I understand correctly, Catalyst AI recognizes applications by their names. If it so, what if we would try to fool Catalyst AI by creating a hard link to the Doom3.exe file (say, TheDarkMod.exe) and use it to run TDM?
  12. Agreed. John Carmack is an invaluable treasure of the gamedev world. It's a shame that almost nobody of his colleagues from the other gamedev corporations is publishing the source of their games. That's right, Eidos, I'm talking about you!
  13. All these patent issues are because of Creative Labs, right? I just can't believe...
  14. Hmm, Raleigh, North Carolina... The city where Epic Games is located. Right, grayman ?
  15. Yeah, it's a helluva job - to make code multithreaded, but I think it's the only way to make Doom 3 & TDM run much faster...
  16. greebo: I'm waiting for the source of Doom 3. Not sure that my implementation of idSIMD would help TDM, but who knows... tech: I think, TDM needs some optimization, but by multithreading (not by using asm, as I was thinking before). As all we know, almost all modern CPUs are multicore, but Doom 3 (and TDM) almost doesn't use multithreading. So if someone would parallelize it, it would be wonderful .
  17. Tels: Great work ! I'm glad that TDM has become much more multilingual then any Thief game at the moment. Also, I hope that, sooner or later, TDM will support the CC feature. Thank you .
  18. My proposal is just an idea . If you think, guys, that you need more mappers than coders and artists, then let it be. But I believe that you definitely should insert the "We are hiring/searching..." text somewhere in TDM site, because the more people know about TDM, the better. Yes, the site already contains the "Want to help? ..." text, but I believe it is not as attractive and/or aggressive as it could be.
  19. The first and second phrases are intended for Google etc, because most people, who could help TDM project, just doesn't know about it. The main goal of these phrases is to attract as many people as possible. Does it look like a some sort of scam? Not sure, because the third phrase is saying: "Dude, you'll gain no money." Of course, most people will say "meh," but, I hope, someone will say "Heck! Why not?" and send a letter to NH.
  20. Back to the topic . What about some headhunting on the main page of TDM site?
  21. I'm not a mapper at all, but I totally agree with Mortem Desino.
  22. Who knows, maybe Tr3B will perform his wishes (deferred shading, DGI, HDR, shadow mapping) through the OpenGL too.
  23. Well, I'm glad that Tr3B is brave enough to port id Tech 4 from OpenGL to Direct3D just because the OpenGL drivers are not as perfect as the Direct3D ones. I'd like to wish him luck in such a hard work . Given his success with the XreaL renderer, I think the porting (and implementing all other things in his wish list) will take at least one year, maybe two.
  24. Ok, somebody has ported id Tech 3 to D3D, but I'm quite sure that in case of id Tech 4 the work will be much more harder. Yes, Raven has made it, but they are professionals who work for money. So, who will perform this work for free?
